    numbers marked for repairs etc, if wagon derailed the tapper would look for the number so that on his report he would be able to give accurate details of repairs which would be needed on said corner.

    Fully understand you can only do a section at a time, it will look great, just keep chipping away at it, so it won’t rust any more at least. Keep us updated on the progress 👍

    Thing to use is a needle gun like used to clear chalk out of boilers, works great as a paint and rust stripper and far quicker than a sander and needing less bovver than a blaster. Blasters can be made from old tall propane canisters, couple holes for fittings, big hole atop for media and hooked up to air, I am sure the welders there could sort a decent size and use soda so any media is washed away with the rain :) Primer, red oxide is still the king for old wagons, prob the reason the paint lasted so well was due to red oxide that is the real stuff as nowadays its a banned product due to the lead content hence its nickname "red lead" but the modern stuff is pretty solid for primerwork.

      @WardleRestorations  Před 4 dny +3

      I’ve just ordered a blaster to try so we will see what happens! I do have a needle gun too so I will try that as well. For this particular pannel the easiest thing at the time seemed to be to just sand it back but the next section I’ll try a different method!

    Great update Ollie !! Good to see you getting the tank wagon out of the siding and the work done on the end panel highlights an amazing difference and hints at how much of a transformation there will be once you get fresh paint on it all !!

      All being well, the wagon will sit where my loco is currently stored so I will have easy access to it. I much prefer doing small jobs on all the projects then 1 project at a time but might see how much of this i can get painted (weather permitting)

    The reason why axle boxed may be numbered on a wagon is maintenance. If there is a defect in service with one of the wheels the crews need to note which one has the problem so maintenance personal can identify the one needing work

  • @jamesnegus83
    @jamesnegus83 Před 4 dny +4

    6 volunteers, 6 sanders, tea and biscuits you could get the top half of one side of the tank done in a day and all painted. Maybe try organising a viewers working party day in good advance notice? I really wish I was closer I'd love to help you plough on through all your projects.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  Před 4 dny +2

      Even half that amount I think we could get one top half done!! It’s a struggle to find people who have the spare time / I need to know they will do a thorough job like yourself! If you ever get a day free, pop down!

      @@WardleRestorations Like l said good for you. Our local railroad museum closed because of the COVID bullshit. A small car is less expensive to restore than a big one. Where are you going to get the decals? HaHa! Maybe ExxonMobil might help you out with the cost of painting the car. Good will and all that. Good luck with your project. Best wishes from a fellow railfan in the USA.

    Hi Ollie, good to see a bit of restoration on the wagon fleet, Yes I know you have been sidelined with the changes at the railway, in the long term more important! I think the numbers 1-4 could be to do with the both axle box - wheelsets for maintenance recording, I have noticed this on some main line stock. 👍
