MOWING 7 FT TALL GRASS - Mowing Tall, Thick Grass (Extremely Overgrown!) with Scag Zero Turn Mower

  • Today I am putting my Scag Patriot zero turn mower to the test by mowing tall grass. I am 6'3" and this grass was well over my head. I considered tackling this project with a bush hog, but I thought my zero turn mower could handle it, so I decided to go for it. See how the Scag patriot fares with mowing tall thick grass.
    You will also see the Scag zero turn on hills. Many people advise against using a zero turn mower on steep hills sense they may be prone to roll.
    Mowing is such a stress reliever. I know I'm not the only one who finds mowing tall grass satisfying. I hope you find this video to be (oddly) relaxing, too!
    Check out what this Scag Patriot can do.

    I just picked up a Bad Boy Avenger with a 60” deck. I have a 2.5 acre field that hasn’t been cut in 3 seasons. Not as tall and thick as your property but not much shorter. Unfortunately that’s how I’m gonna break the mower in is knocking it all down but it’ll be smooth sailing after that. Thanks for this video. Never thought I needed to see someone else do it to get me to say screw it and do it. lol.

    I have a craftsman gt6000 strong kohler riding mower that I got when I bought my farm property. I have grass like yours that even after a few drives over it still stands up or doesn’t get cut. I wonder if I need to sharpen the blades or something. The mower is a 2013 and I doubt it’s ever had the blades serviced

    Nice video Glenn! Looks like it took about three or four passes in those really tall spots to knock that stuff down, did the Scag bog down at all?

      Thanks man! Surprisingly it never bogged down. I've been impressed with this mower.

    Does your mower protect the belt drive well?

    Do you start with the highest settings on cutting?

    Hey I got a really good question for you sir does that hurt your mower. I say that because I have a mower and I've never done that with it but I have a tractor with a brush hog and I have taken out seven foot tall grass with that

    • @Bizzo1289
      @Bizzo1289 Před měsícem

      It can hurt it if you go plowing straight into it, super long thick grass is where you’ll snap a deck belt usually. However, since it’s a reasonably small zero turn it shouldn’t have as much of an issue with snapping belts as some of the larger decked mowers. Apart from that, as long as your mower isn’t constantly bogging down and struggling, it really shouldn’t hurt it at all.

    You do know there is a plate under the deck you can adjust to help cut taller grass
