    I like the idea of removing the melamine while still attached. With a helper each door should take two minutes. It needs to be sealed with lacquer, then primed and then finished. MDF is extremely porous.

    I'm so thankful I found you and this video. I have these ugly cabinets in my kitchen it can with the house, well some of the thermafoil is peeling and I always wondered if I could paint them and they hold up in a kitchen. The dumb older owners removed real wood cabinets and replaced with these. Ugh

      Desire Love OMG I put these in an executive rental I own. I refaced the cabinets but didn’t know anything about “ thermafoil “ I just liked the colour. I spent almost $1400 for the cabinets doors & drawers. One of the drawer fronts was bubbling right out of the box. I brought it to Home Depot & asked them about it after my Cousin explained it was Thermafoil & I was going to have trouble with them in the kitchen. They wouldn’t help me because I hadn’t taken the cabinets out of the boxes for over 4 months as I’d been waiting for tenants to leave before redoing the kitchen. So I had to order another drawer front & PAY for it. After paying another $1500 to have the kitchen installed, including other things, within 6 months almost EVERY cabinet was peeling or cracking. The home has central air, so there’s no reason they should be doing this, it’s just an inferior product. I was going to order all knew cabinets until I saw this. It’s worth a shot before I spend thousands!!! Thanks!!!

    Awesome video! As with some other comments, I too have curling finish on my cabinets around the stove so I peeled off one that was already peeling to see if it would come off. I didn't use heat at all because it was already peeling but the problem I now have is that the glue pulled some of the surface of the MDF off with it and some areas now look pitted. Any idea how you can correct this with some sort of filler or something? It doesnt seem to sand out.

      @BethFarmFreshVintageFinds  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Andiie, I don't recommend sanding the MDF because it will fall apart. If you've already sanded it a little too much I would try some wood puddy to fill the areas and then smooth it out with 220 grit paper. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching. ;)
