#Periphery #Metal #NikNocturnal - Hudba
This masterpiece is so incredible, that they react to a smooth jazz song with a sax solo, during the break after the Djentocalypse. They're definitely Djentlemen 😎
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 Well, i enjoyed it. It's all about preferences
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 Eat a snickers, hunny.
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 I see you whining on every Nick Nocturnal comment section, what’s the deal, man?
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 oh you're one of those. Get a life
@@phobixthething5692 death, taxes, and Dragon Ball fans can’t read being toxic in Nick’s comment section😭
For those that aren’t aware, both singles they released have DOZENS of callbacks to their Juggernaut double album. For example, the chord progression in the chorus for this song is directly lifted from The Event from Juggernaut: Alpha. As a huge Periphery fan, it was crazy hearing all the references to Jugg
Also the lyrics!! "This is a one way road" and the "kill me slowly" are references too
I am all for it. Especially since Jugg was the first album that I got by the band. I had heard Make Total Destroy, but never got into them till Jugg released and then I was instantly in love. I am so happy to hear the call backs to some of my favorite songs.
I know it’s fucking EPIC AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I thought I was the only one that noticed lol 😅
All these juggernaut riffs and references in both songs… I wonder why?
I’ve never really been a Periphery fan but after listening to this song multiple times since yesterday I think they might be the greatest band of all time
It's maybe the greatest band in their own genre, but not the all time greatest, because that is just not possible.
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 I was being hyperbolic on purpose
Welcome!
They are honestly in my opinion the best modern metal band to exist. Not only are they honest musicians and phenomenal songwriters, it's more than just the music. They have their own label, They have their own brands of gear, Etc. They just have a big involvement in the community of music.
Too bad you couldn't catch the references to Psychosphere, The Event and Omega lol
His voice goes up like an angel, and down like a wounded ox!
Nice one 🤘😎
Og
Love that shit!
I love the contrast, I hate that so many people complained about the clean singing so much that they stopped for so long
Periphery! love that shit!
Matt will always be one of my favorite drummers. What an absolute human metronome beast.
It's been a few years since I've seen him and watching this video I was thinking "who tf is this biker dad looking dude?"
Along with Alex Bent from Trivium❤️
@@patesz04 lol Alex bent isn't even the best trivium drummer let alone on Matt's level
Matt's the best. Nobody else has the groove or style that Matt has. Matt can do anything any other metal drummer does but most of them can't do half of what he does
Matts groove is discernable, just like Marks riffs. You can hear them on a track and just tell that it's them.
That jazz break is actually insanely good. I hope they do more of that in the future.
No. It was fucking predictable and so called "Haha" -funny.
It's pity that Periphery used to be much more melodic.
Nowadays it's more relying on... Sorry, I am going to say the S-word... "Screamo" music.
I cannot be the only one feeling like this, that they are truly going backwards in the musical intelligence. Their music is much less dynamic what it used to be. Juggernaut is one of the best concept album what is ever written and their debut album was mind blowing, which literally changed the whole industry.
Now their new material (since their last album) has been something what 16 year old kids would like to do. Just angry without any depth in it. Periphery is taking the easy way out just to satisfy the casual listeners.
But can they play it? Or do they just eat pizza and chill when that part comes up?
I can't believe people hate on Spencer so much dude is so insanely talented and only gets better with every album
I get It. His singing can easily come off as flamboyant , eccentric , pretentious.
They do? I mean, he deserved it on P1, but I feel like he's established himself pretty well now.
@@liamnissanS2K I will grant you that he has adopted a douche hairstyle. Bring back the mohawk!
@@liamnissanS2K i know people dont like his cleans. I like it though lol
@@liamnissanS2K more like estrogenic
Fun fact, that chorus chord progression is actually from their Alpha/Omega album! It's a LOVELY call back :D
Dude yeah I noticed that! I’m pretty sure they used the make total destroy chord progression in Zagreus too but I could be wrong
The Event
makes me think Periphery is doing Periphery now?
@@ethanblair1959 they also used four lights, and a little tad bit of the Hades Game soundtrack
The Event, also the Stranger Things chord progression, and a riff from Four Lights was also used
Sleep Token and Periphery setting the bar HIGH for 2023. Can’t wait to hear more from both.
Shits Poppin off right now. So much new stuff coming out lately that is on another level
Sadly Periphery has declined since their second album.
@@HenritheHorse why do you say that?
@@diamondh4mr458 I just don't like the songs or sounds. To me they've became the boring generic djent band everyone tried to be after hearing P1 or P2. Some songs are good, but I just can't stand Nolly's "perfect" production. Too polished for metal.
@@HenritheHorse Interesting, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard someone be critical of production that’s too crisp haha
If 2023 is going to be the year that every metal band just experiments with putting every genre imaginable into their music, it's going to be a great year.
Haven’t they always done that? What do they do live ? It’s great when they ACTUALLY play the break. This is like a guest spot in a song. I hope they put something together and play and not just pipe in the album tracks.
I wholeheartedly agree
I'm looking forward to what A7X LIBAD will be about
I love how Spencer looks like the local dr0gg Lord that just happened to hear a band perform in an abandoned warehouse and decided to step in as a singer
He looks like Bono
I love that the GGD "Betcha can't play this" riff and that intense drum part at the ending made it into the song. The commericial came out in like what, 2019 or 2020? Been wanting to hear this in a Periphery song since then. And they delivered. Like always. Them prog metal boys. Can't say Djent, because it's lawfully not a genre anymore.
HOLY SHIT YOU'RE RIGHT! I can't believe I didn't notice!
Periphery is the physical embodiment of my mind when a breakdown ends and I'm just like, "what if we just had one more"
That solo literally sounds like something Meshuggah would do. I really dig it
When you want to quickly show someone all the genres of music, you are into.
Had me dying when they started watching their own music video lol. This song brings all emotions into one place.
To my ears this song is almost a tribute to Meshuggah. Especially the solo composed of so many elements that Thordendal uses, with that massive backing track.
That's the whole band though. They've been doing that since 2005.
Periphery nodding to Messhugah? No way!
Way too much talent to be meshuggah. They're trash in today's scene
@@blackfox1320 not sure to understand your comment mate.
@@blackfox1320 hahahahaha... hahahahhahah. Ha ha..... hahahahahahahhahahahahahshah. No.
That jazz break is legit! I’m impressed!
I love this band so unpredictable, and Spencer is such a beast. 🤘
Really? To me it’s incredibly predictable and boring. It’s the periphery formula by now. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the band at first. Just don’t hear anything new, no longer progressive.
As someone whose favourite Periphery project is Juggernaut, I lost my mind over how many references to riffs and lyrics from that album are within these 2 singles
I've been a Periphery fan since the first album in 2010. I can't wait for this album. It's kind of sad that there are people who don't know about Periphery..
Hey its you again lol
Periphery was great until their second album.
@@HenritheHorse I'll have to disagree, but you are free to share that opinion.
@@jaydenjbryant8665 Oh, I remember you. I barely see you around on CZcams.
@@thelastdaybreathinginetern1385 I watch less reactions now. I’ve been obsessed with this youtuber named Kubz Scouts
Jørgen Munkeby on sax, played on Blast Inc and Nocturnal Hours with Haunted Shores.
6:18 like they’ve said since Icarus lives, Spencer’s voice goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox
his reactions always make the song 10x better for some reason idk why XD
Prog Metal is back. It's great to see 2023 starting strong
At this point Periphery is their own genre
Just imagine if Periphery made a single with After The Burial! That would destroy the metal/ death core universe in magnificent way. I kept picturing it listening to this!
That would be ridiculous...ly awesome 🔥
As a lover of prog, and artists such as Thundercat being my favorite of 2022, I say: YES! MORE METAL AND JAZZ MIXED TOGETHER! MORE NECK-BREAKING BREAKDOWNS WITH EPIC SAX SOLO!
Thank you
I'd lose my shit for a Thundercat feature on a metal track.
@@williamchristensen7354 YES!! I mean it could totally happen one day when you know that Thundercat was playing for the metal band Suicidal Tendancies at some point!
Periphery has always done whatever they want, but they always keep the djent somewhere, I love their style and again, going from aggressive to cheerful and back to aggressive is something I love from them, also the random jazz bits, love them too!
Them leaning hard on their Meshuggah influence during the solo was beautifully done, that part fuckin kicks 🤘
The Juggernaut callbacks on this and Zagreus are really getting me pumped for the potential of this album
They are absolutely right djent is not a genre…
… its a lifestyle.
Djenre
They should put that on a shirt
@@ChainsawChristmas they did lol it's on their store rn
We just want his tone bruh.
Man I love how the sax has infiltrated metal recently! I want more of it! And everywhere!!! I'll put my jazz hands in a mosh pit any day!
such classy djents - it's like it's almost a genre
Nik I love how you went thru the exact same range of emotions as I did when I first heard it. “Ooo sick metal banger - wait Jazz? Omegalul - back into the Chorus? Nice. zvrhayebfbehwud what happened at the end?!”
lol at 3:38 in the solo you said "marky " when Misha is doing the solo 🤣 can't blame you its long hair era for periphery and it is just going to get better
Was looking for this comment 😂
Well if we make it simple. Misha does Fredrik Thordendal, Mark Ihsahn/Emperor and Jake JP stuff. If you think where the influences come from. That’s how I separate the styles.
@@JYap2 Fairly apt, even if each member has definitely developed very distinct styles of their own. Helps to picture them, though.
You have to react to Zagreus now! It's goes hard. Definitely After the Burial Rareform rhythm
Zagreus was fucking sick
Rareform is one of my favorite albums
His voice goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox
First listen I thought it was good but after the second and subsequent listens, I love it. Such a catchy chorus as well.
I just started getting into Periphery again a few weeks ago and have been listening to P3 back to back nonstop, incredibly excited that they’re dropping some new stuff and it sounds like it’s going to absolutely crush.
You’ve helped discover so many great new songs and bands! Thanks for the videos!!!
That was a Fredrik Thordendal guitar solo if I’ve ever heard one. Loved it!
honestly this is where Periphery's swag comes from, they don't take themselves too seriously
Spencer has reached full Bono mode with those glasses. Lol
When the song first came out I had a negative initial reaction because of the lyrics contrasting so much with the jazz section… I watched the video and I take back everything negative I thought about the song. It’s actually masterful… and seeing the video made me realize the jazz interlude was symbolism for trying to put a happy face on to please others when in reality what you feel is more akin to the outro of the song, which resonates a lot. I have been listening to it a lot since
You may be one of the only people who can put together a coherent message from Spencer's lyrics lol. He's so all over the place sometimes but it always works somehow
This was their greatest hits and entire discography summed up in 6 unbelievable minutes.
What a track. What a reaction. What a vid.
Love how he can just call the members by their first name so casually
So can you, try it out sometime
@@cornela1 you're hilarious
So freaking good. They keep getting better. 🔥
Nik: I’m about to get jumpscare
Periphery: anyway sir here you have you smooth jazz
"there some dow-de-dows with some ambient WOOT" is why i love nics commentary.
from warehousecore straight into 5-star restaurantcore and right back to chunk time
And this is why they're my favorite band
Dude…..this officially FUCKS so hard bro! Once they started to troll with breaking our walls *pause* I was in….like all the way. The chuggo’s and the FAT ass groove in the beginning got me. This whole song is a chaotic vibe. I fûck with it so much.
Nick, I don't have that many friends who listen to or enjoy this type of music (also being from a Balkan country where the pop has some low levels, guys), and I'm sure there are others here, who are probably in a similar situation, but we always got you. I've actually never appreciated you this much till now, because I've never realised exactly how much I love listening to my favourite bands' new songs with someone, who really gets the music, the vibe, the scene, also is involved very much into it and is just genuine about the whole thing.
So I come here to thank you, man. I really appreciate what you're doing.
Been looking for this react video since Wildfire came out yesterday !
This played early this morning on Liquid Metal XM 40, omg it was soooo good... was kinda hoping for more breakdown at end, but the smooth sax.
Between this and Sleep Token... niceeeee
This song slaps so hard my parents literally thought I was having a seizure.
The choruses are so Textures. Great crazy song.
I KNEW IT REMINDED ME OF SOMETHING the first textures album is a masterpiece
The tuning is drop Ab btw. Not even low, they just write that heavy.
Was incredibly excited to see your reaction to this. This song is such a fun vibe from them!
Although I love to see periphery progress so late in their career, there are sections of this song that are straight up meshuggah
Misha has said multiple times that Meshuggah is his favorite band of all time and that his music is directly influenced by them. It's obvious and old news.
nothing bad about that imo, they still put their style into it so i really enjoy it, but obvs its heavily inspired but misha has already stated this a while ago
Meshuggah is trash
I love the orchestral bit at the end in the official audio.
Spencer looks like the love child of Bono and Chad Kroger.
Periphery VI: Djazz is not a genre
Was waiting on this reaction! Listened to it at work yesterday a few times!
Who ever does the edit on your videos deserves a medal. This is so entertaining to watch with all those memes and zooms. Well done
1:29 just realized that the "1, 2, 3, 4" is Halpern. So sick, I love how they left that in from the recording session
Producer: what key?
Periphery: yes
Definitely want a cover from you man what a song 🖤
the 2nd listen of this song blew my mind, the transitions and chord progressions are insane, like my 10th listen now haha
bro i cant wait for the documentary for this. the other ones have been super fun to watch
Delightful. That's going on repeat for a solid half hour at the very least.
Wow. That was at the same time hard and interesting to listen. And it's awesome to see new emotions on Nik's face. That was not a song, but a full Experience.
*I think it might djent*
maybe it does djent
Been waiting for your reaction to this one, this song is straight 🔥
Man this song is awesome! I've never listened to these guys before but you can bet your ass I'm going to start. Right now.
The main riff came out of the P4 sessions, so around the same time as Blood Eagle. Makes sense.
I have the feeling 2023 is gonna be the year of : Genre mix Metal. Paledusk, sleep token, periphery. They already gave us this direction.
This song is genuinely amazing. I'd like to see you react to Zagreus too. Great content
3:14 - Thordendal sent a Guitar Pro
Very cool. I love the switch ups.
Reusing The Event for the chorus is brilliant. Love the reinterpretation!
I have had a thing for this band since Ragnarok and this did it again. Love love love 😍😍
Also Nik... DEALER has released a new song as well as Graphic Nature and ten56, video for song Saiko and the release of the ep..
Always a pleasure to have some Nik Periphery content. Any chance you’ll do Zagreus?
Spencer sounds better than ever. Those screams are so brutal.
Djazz is a genre now! Love the song, love Periphery. Zagreus gets me a little more because of the Hades reference.
i was not aware that i missed periphery that much and its so obvious that they had so much fun with this! same as me :)
Evil Bono can roar like a demon!
When you made the teeth at 3:18 I automatically thought about Wolf of Wall Street and then a wild Leo appeared haha PERFECT
It’s like Twelve Foot Ninja genre fusion but in drop âöūlėgh and more proggy. This song is so confusing but I love it
So much love for Spencer in his side project with Nic Mystery (synthwave). He sounds amazing on this track!
Spencer really channeling the Kerry Eurodyne aesthetic.
One of the greatest bands around! Phenomenal stuff!
I love how stuff that makes me bang my head on the wall puts Nik on the dance floor...🤣
I was completely surprised. Not what I was expecting from them at all. Great stuff.
P2 was my fav too! Have a certain love for it cause me and a few friends listened to that album almost exclusively during an enitre 10 day vacation at the beach haha
This is such a great example of Periphery just doing what the heck they want, and im all for it.
I see too many bands taking themselves super super seriously (Which yes there is a place for it) but man when you have a group of guys who write awesome music and have some left turn elements that catch you off guard, it just rules, and as you say Nik, its fun, something some bands kind of forget about.
So looking forward to this album!
That sax part was done by Munkeby from the Norwegian avan't-garde / jazz black metal band Shining
This song is seriously one of my favorite metal songs of all eternity
