Thank god he won a masters, totally deserved it after all the struggles in his career. One of the only players that could trouble the big 3, epic matches. Olympic Medals, Davis Cup, 250, 500, Masters and a Slam. One of the greats
He would’ve had 4-5 slams if he hadn’t been injured so much
@@wdsa7129 true
@@wdsa7129 I don't know if that much, but I can think in 1-2 more GS titles considering that he played 2 finals and won 1 of them. I don't have any trouble picturing him playing 3-4 finals more in a normal career. Also, in the time he managed to play, disputed a couple of semifinals. Certainly Delpo could have been a serious opponent to the big 3 if his body endured better the tour.
One of the greatest giants if not the Greatest big man in history of tennis.
@@davidag90so like Wawrinka and Murray?
I don't know what Federer has against been 40-15 serving to win the tournament
@Uvuvwewewe Osas One of the mentally weakest players on tour? With 20 GS? Hahaha please get lost
Weakest player and yet 20 GS.. So you even know what "weak" means? 🤣 get a fucking dictionary you african bug
@Uvuvwewewe Osas great argument tho, idiot)
@Uvuvwewewe Osas who knows
if all 3 were at the same age, just imagine Federer at 21-25. would rip everybody apart. Actually what he did, always had a 5-setters with Nadal on Clay. and well, dominating grass and hard.
people dont get it feds is not clutch (as the best) he's just ultra gifted. end of.
Del Potro is a great talent unfortunately held back by almost constant injury. Always fun to watch. Great match.
Yes, we love Rodger's tennis but I have really missed Delpo. I really hope he comes back fit and strong.
2 years later and I am so sad
I have some bad news ..
Inmensa emoción y alegría el volver a verte en este memorable partido. Gracias Juan Martín por tanto que nos has dado. Dios te bendiga. Saludos desde Quilmes. Quique.
It's a wonder just how great Delpo could of been with a bit more luck and less injuries. That forehand is a thing of beauty
His injuries are caused of the massive efforts he puts to his body, taller people tend to have more injuries.
@@manuel7937 Not entirely. The last one that kept him away for 3 years was a total accident.
@@manuel7937But not typically the wrist... I know he had other injuries but that's what he had most issues with. It's the back, the knees and the ligaments in the legs and feet that have to support the big body. The wrist of all places doesn't have that much to do with height.
This match destroyed Federers whole momentum
Ertugrul Körpinar yes 🙄
GTS I agree
So true, also important to keep in mind this momentum had pretty much been continuous from AO '17 --> IW '18 final loss :-(
@@TheHenMen Del Potro defeated him in US Open 2017 too
@@saikat93ify and 2009
Del Potro is very good and talented player. He got lots of fans in Europe.
Two great champions going at one another. Superb tennis.
Juan Martin the HUGE FOREHAND!!!
One of the hidden gems of Mr '40-15' but Delpo was so exciting to watch, miss those days.
6:18 *federer hits delpo and wins the point
commentator : increeeeddible again from federer
Indian wells 2018…the beginning of the end of a remarkable career…⌛️🇨🇭
One of the best finals. What a quality match!
Mr. Elegance and mr. Giant! Bravo both! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Crazy love for Delpo
No doubt: one of the best M1000 finals of all time.
Que grande Delpo, con el tiempo se aprecian cada vez más sus logros
My all time favorite match 👏🏽
Why 2 drop shots on 2 of the 3 MPs? Especially the last one. He could have ripped that for a certain winner.
Del Potro cannot move as fast because of his huge frame. I hink Fed wanted to capitalize on that
I think Federer knows better tennis than you ..
@@felixor1444 Did I question his skills? I questioned his decision making. Given that on court it is way tougher to make decisions in split seconds but Fed let this slip.
@@Masterdoctorgenius14 yeah but he also better how to play than you ( I think) so yes you can say something like when you are outside but when you are in it's something else
@@felixor1444 he is stubborn in his decision making. That made him win many matches and titles and also lose many matches and titles
Potro so fast for his size😨
Argentino ;))
Delpo do an amazing job.. Big rivality between this tw guys
Wow what a comeback from Delpo!
7:20 the same mistake in wimbledon 2019 😥
Are u blind?
Awsome athletes. Too bad they both have knee injuries.
If Federer had won this, he would have remained Nº1 until Halle.
No, he would've had to defend points in Miami too!
@@MKD1101
No, Nadal withdrew from IW & Miami last year so Federer losing 1000 points woldn't matter.
He only had to win Indian Wells.
@@masters.1000 ……..or he could be no 1 if he had gone to quarters in miami
Incredible match it was!
Del potro is such a show, fed, djoko are maybe the best in term of technic but del potro is able to do science fiction shots. I will always remember the 189 mph forehand missile shot he did whereas he was at the end of his run!
In what match???? I need to see it
USO 2009 4th set 1-0 game point, it was 189kmh
bro, he has something with going to the forehand at 40-15 serving for it
PTSD from Novak's comebacks 😅
@@lukijanbugarski3476Toilet break?
Highly emotional match. Federer alot of times makes questionable decisions at moments like this
His unsporting behavior by playing the ball directly at the opponent, is what is most questionable, as far as I am concerned.
Finally someone else noticed this playstyle by Fed ...loves to hit directly at the opponent even when he can hit a clear easy winner. It's like he expects the ball to go thru them like they're a ghost. SMH
@@Agent-hh2kk Yes clearly a man who is not used to loosing, which shouldn't be seen as an excuse.
@@martenx1384Have you taken your meds?
@@martenx1384 if you are talking about moments such as czcams.com/video/EeoToadYWqI/video.html , I don't think this was intentionally aggressive, he did end up hitting it at Delpo, but not before Delpo stood right at the net and even moved into the ball at the end. I do not think this is something that Federer does more than other players.
Today he announced he will retire after Argentina open 😢
What a match
Injuries ruined Delpo otherwise he is a class, could have won a number of grandslams
Injuries are not the reason..Rafa had more injuries than delpo but still the best.. Wawrinka thiem and delpo can't comeback stronger like Nadal
delpo sweet spot hitting is just POP! POP! BANG!!
This was the start of a slight decline in feds level from the beginning of 2017 where he was playing like he did in the prime years of 2004-2010 ..he should have won this but del porto played amazing
What was Roger talking about at 4:03 anyone wanna clarify to me ? I don't see why he'd be so out of elements when delpo challenged within 2 secs of the call
That's class 😆
Del Potro forehand is amazing
That outro is gold
Una gran recompensa para el Rey del Forehand. Meresido delpo
What an epic match between two gladiators. But why was Federer miffed after Hawkeye showed his serve was wide in that 2nd set tiebreaker?
beautiful prepandemic tennis
fue un partidazo de Del Potro este
I'm gonna miss you delpo
No matter how many times I watch this the result is still the same :\
Edit: 15 likes thanks for nothing 😁
@markorevan then*
If you keep watching it for a billionth time, you might slip into an alternate reality where Federer wins it.
@@peternguyen1899 OK brb
4:32 Can see that reaction all day long. Goosebumps 😁
A monster was born.
magnifique
Cómo te extraño muralla de Tandil 😭
Fed's backhand from 2017-18 was such a good shot. Heck, it was pretty good even in 2019. Give 06erer that backhand, and he probably gets the Grand Slam.
Te extraño Roger 😢😢😢
Idk which loss was worse: this one or US Open 2009. I think I would go for 09 because here Delpo did have match point in the second set
_+_ Great job Del Potro
Great mr. Del Po
Cómo se lo extraña a Delpo 🥺
This guy was awesome player... Injuries bothered his career a lot..
If he could have kept his level and somehow avoided injury, we would be talking about Delpo in a new light. Deadly off both wings with his Eastern forehand and his classic 2HBH, low slice, powerful serve, good movement for his height…sigh, he had it all. Unfortunate that we only saw glimpses of his greatness.
He angled his backhand so well into the corners, the potential to have been Nadal's nemesis was evident on his clay..
6:00
The most moronic shot in Federer's career.
Pathetic drop shot, it was so deep. He should have sealed that with a backhand winner.
Nerves...
Yup a backhand would of sealed that. Del Porto was in his head
Delpo to Federer is what Wawrinka is to Djokovic
whats wawrinka to djokovic? I mean Novak leads 20-5
@@BogdanPW641 4-4 at slams. c'mon.
@@jakehuang3545 so? There is atp 1000 also and atp 500.Its 20-5 bruh. What come on.Are you trolling or? hahahaha
@@BogdanPW641 It's 20-6, check your stats. And my point here is on the slams: the Big3 all have someone outside the Big3 who can challenge them, or has gotten upsets over them there a few times. Someone they just DON'T want to play at a slam bc of their playstyle and/or mental edge. Delpo is particularly confident against Fed bc of the 09USO win, and Wawrinka against Novak bc of AO13, not to mention he started beating him in slams to win them.
40-15 here also 😳
Federer is very talented, proof of that is to get 20 grand slam's with that unfortunate mentality, he is certainly the player who lost the most game won in history, and still has several records.
He sinned a lot because he was afraid of Djokovic, always in important moments holding his arm, unlike Wawrinka.
If Federer had half of Nadal's mentality, he would have about 30 Grand Slam's, 60 Masters 1000, and some 150 titles, including the Olympics.
I think Fed's always had a Championship mindset, but like Boxing & MMA, Styles make Fights, and Nadal has always given him fits, & as time went on Novak the Nightmare also became a handful 2 deal with: both greats, and every era has those types of scenarios; when McEnroe peaked, he had Connors number, and likewise Sampras got the best of Agassi more often than not: in the end, all were "slam dunks" 4 the Hall of Fame, as will be the Case 4 Fed, Djokovic, & Nadal
I think blowing three chances to beat Novak was almost inexcusable but esp Wimbledon 2019, to have not have put in one excellent serve on either MP was shootable..He should have tried an out swinging swerve and sealed it.
Federer choked. Happy for delpo he deserves a masters 1000
yep. that was one hell of a choke. his confidence was shattered and he is still recovering from that loss.
@@Masterdoctorgenius14 I think he finally recovered from it, he was pretty mentally stable in Dubai.
One of the biggest chokes of his career
Jimmy Savile a drop shot on 40-15 for the match? Why not a backhand to finish it ?
Federer thinks finishing a tournament with a dropshot is pretty.
Well, I don't.
Against thiem 2019 two consecutive drop shot in third set at and lost the final.
It’s really not. You gotta go for the big winner! I always end my matches in style!
in the end win matters. i do'nt care if a player looks pretty or not. we all love rafa, no one in history of tennis is more defensive counter puncher than rafa . it did'nt looked pretty but in the end, he has won rolland garros 13 times with that method. djokovic is also a baseliner but i'll place him slightly b/w federer and nadal when it comes to play style.
Well in any case whatever happen to delpo in the future at least he won GS, won masters and he has plenty of other titles. Not to shabby for very injury prone players and player tagging in big 3 world.
This moment will never happen in argentine tennis
If if if. There is no if
now both these guys are retired... gonna miss their strong eastern forehands

Juan Martín Del Potro
PD: i hope he gets well soon!
I think what you mean is "match points"
no matter what, federer is not a good loser...del potro magnificent, win or lose, always a lionheart.
Federer was somehow on edge all match long especially with the umpire Fergus Murphy who, imo, actually did a good job as always really. Kind of weird to see this from Federer at that time when he was basically ruling tennis along with Rafa
This match mortalized Federer
I bet Roger starts bedtime stories to his kids with "Once upon a time when daddy had 40-15 serving for the match..."
Fucking LOVE Delpo!
7:02..."And he picked him off, much to Federer's disgust."...lol smh, Robbie is too funny! This should have the original length of this great match...ha, maybe even longer
Its Nick Lester's voice, actually 😉
@@mayanksharma484 Thanks! I thought it was Rob.
I cant believe that’s Delpos first time winning a Masters 1000….
The hand of Thor that's how he hits it, he played great.
quelqun aurait le match en entier ?
Get over 4 match points????
I always thought fed has this 40-15 saga with Djokovic but now I think he really is the 40-15 king.
federer has coughed up match points a record 24 times in his career. he has many records but this is certainly not the one he wishes to hold.
@@shikhargovil9579 lol yeah
Fed's biggest mental blocks despite having superior talent: 1) Nadal (for most of this career, except 2017 onwards), 2) Djokovic (from 2011 onwards), 3) DelPo (2009 onwards)
I hate how people only talk about and not about juan
Lo unico que este dia solo recuerdo a dos de mis primos Maxi y Nana...ellos creo que si estaban viendolo ...seguramente..yo estariacon mi hija atendiendo...o quizas si no lo se 😭
Roger without clean shave is vulnerable
Another head-scratching instance of Roger "40-15" Federer smh. This one hurt but at least it wasn't a grand slam final
Volvé Delpo 😢
SEXY Tennis: that's what Roger does, but all credit 2 Juan as well: when he's healthy he strikes as well as any 1 you've ever seen, as evidenced by how he beat Nadal & Fed 2 win the 09 US Open
3:48 very bad,that's a disrespect for Federer
Mmm en momentos de frustración uno puede llegar a hacer cosas inconscientemente. Simplemente se le escapó. Estoy seguro de que Federer inmediatamente después se arrepintió de haber hecho eso.
I don't think you can blame him..
This match was pretty much the start of the decline of Neo Federer
3:31 Yeah, that was not right. He won the set though, so it wasn't too much of a problem I guess.
That's the first time I've ever seen bad decision making by Roger on match point. Maybe that record of Jimmy Connors did get a little bit into his head, because he knows it is definitely in range for him.
Whole career match point or more wasted by Big 3 UP TO THIS DATE 20 May 2021:
Federer: 24
Nadal: 8
Djokovic: 3
Was this last time when roger wore Nike
leoo olong no the last time was Stuttgart 2018
Federer should have relaxed and served for the match
Roger is very aware of the sport politics and very fare minded! He is the GOAT!
GOAT at losing the big matches.
El que le dice pecho frio a del potro no sabe nada la verdad
Federer's best shots and unique plays:
5 federer's flick
4 sabr
3 half volley
2 backhand smash
1 federer's choke
Two match points ?!
Oh Mr.40-15 lost again
Hilarious by Fed at 6:00 wanted to make a fool out of delpo with a drop shot and didn't even bother or prepare to contest a possible return by him. All he had to do was hit it to the left with a bit of force and he would win the point or at least with the next shot with a volley if delpo mange to return it. Simply Typical federer who wants to be stylish instead of just taking the most logical shot
I love Thor!
Chokerer in full flow, oh dear...
AGAIN he wasted match points???
His daughters are cute
