Well surely bad for undercover, but I'm sure a few CZcamsrs had used this kind of setups before (if with action cams instead of DSLRs).
I've seen quite a few videos where buskers record themselves to try to get a social media following, so it's not super strange as far as having the setup. It definitely does cause people to look closer at the actual person for sure, though.
I'd have found the cameras kinda off putting. If somebody has money for cameras they don't need money for busking.

Nah people are just afraid to show that they're into meme music by donating money cuz it can be shameful. On the other hand showing that you're into classical music is always "cool"
Actually busking has to be prepared properly like any performance and it will work better when you've got a shitload of gear like microphones, amplification, proper backtracks if you play solo, attractive outfit ... Location is also important, you want people to stop by to create a crowd so the middle of the shopping alley is not the best place (people are just hurrrying between shops, they don't take time to stop and listen... )
