    The remake is here! 2 years ago I made a beginners guide for stacking silver, that video led to more and more guides and more and more questions. This guide is a combination of all the most asked questions between all silver stacking guides I made. Thus the complete beginners guide to investing and stacking silver is born! What’s a slab? What’s the difference between a stacker and a collector? What is numismatic? What’s a premium? How do you buy silver? What types of silver is good for beginners? Find out here!

    Reputable companies and my opinion on them.
    Apmex - For some numismatics, good for weight, junk/constitutional silver and bulk purchases. Good for gold. Sometimes qualifies for eBay bucks! Can be more expensive.
    JM Bullion- Decent for modern numismatic coins, great for weight and bulk. Great SALES and pretty often too. Great for gold. Free shipping on orders of $99.
    Bold Precious Metals - Excellent customer service, exceptional quality products, great for modern numismatic coins and collector coins. Average for weight. Great deals on silver American Eagles. Often qualifies for eBay bucks! Free shipping on orders over $99.
    Liberty Coin - Awesome for gold! Great for weight. Great for super numismatic coins with a massive selection of graded coins and proofs. FREE SHIPPING.

    I'm really not trying to be that guy!!! this really is the first comment I've ever left on CZcams or social media period for real... I've bought bullion my whole life. I really did learn something from your video. Please don't worry about time limits on your presentations. It's kinda like the fastest tattoo Award!!! I tell people to at least buy 1oz per paycheck (generic), just to have it! It adds up, as long as it stays at the price range it's in now. I get about 6-10 oz per pay period (generic)... once in awhile a little more. I'm hoping the price stays down, or goes down, so I can continue to get as much as I can! I'm a newer stacker, and am now addicted! I do plead with you, if you do not stack yet, to start!! You can miss out once it gets unaffordable! Enjoy! Great vid!! Good info!

      @@GuidoStackin Hello I have a question I was hoping you may be able to help me I have a 1971 Eisenhower dollar It is not copper as there is no Brown on the side but it has no mint mark From the research I have done I believe that it is supposed to have and S mint mark I write about 8 bicentennial Eisenhower proof and also had no mate mark what it was supposed to and that it was one of a kind and worth a lot of moneyMine is not in proof condition but still maybe rare or one of a kind and worth something once again it is All silver over on the
      edges
      Makes a slightly different noise when you ping it with another coin
      And weighs more than a standard Eisenhower
      Also the finish looks a little different than a standard Eisenhower even though it is somewhat tarnished
      I'm thinking maybe it is a proof that is tarnished with no Mint mark
      Or a regular Philadelphia Eisenhower that was struck on a silver blank
      Please get back to me if you know anything about what I'm talking about I have not found anything thank you

    @adamjkel7 Před 4 lety +5

    "The best way to find them" (90% Silver U.S. Dimes, Quarters & Halves - 1964 & prior) is by looking at the DATE on the coin, not "the side" of the coin. If the DATE is not legible, then you should look at "the side" and then do the drop test. If you are brand-new to coin collecting or "silver stacking", you should get a second opinion from a local coin dealer or someone who knows the difference, and, also, do more research if you are really interested and want (need) to learn. *This is a great video, so don't take this as criticism, it's just my opinion.

    Just wanted to let you know, I was into coin collecting as a kid and just got back into it a 5 months ago ( I'm 53 I needed to get a new hobby)). As for the collecting portion I'm just doing modern Era, Lincolns, Jefferson, Washington etc.
    I had planned on eventually easing into buying silver and gold. I didn't even know it was called Stacking until I ran across on of your videos last week. As a Floridian you may not take this as a compliment but it is, I study your video the way Bill Bellechik studies opposing teams game film.

    1. MINT

    Thanks for a great video... I started stacking/collecting less than two years ago now... My first purchase was a 1 oz gold Maple Leaf and about 110 oz silver Maple Leafs... but I actually knew nothing about this... then I started watching videos... One thing that few people mention in a beginner's guide video is factoring in the cost of shipping. As you mentioned, some people can't afford a 10 oz bar but may be able to buy a 1 oz bar... but the shipping would be the same for both, so why not save up until you can buy the 10 oz?... Maybe some people have options to buy without shipping, but for a person like me who lives in a small town where there is not even a local coin shop, I am limited to buying from a dealer online. I buy from Silver Gold Bull mostly and save up until I can get a $500.00 order so I get free shipping... All the small shipping charges can really add up. I only buy small orders from other dealers if they have a particular coin/coins I really want... and that is where my semi-numismatic collector aspect comes in.... I don't buy any very high premium coins, but I still love coins with beautiful designs like some from the Perth Mint and others. I live in Canada so I can't really order from the U.S. dealers as I don't want to pay the 14% tax on top of the shipping charges... that would be simply prohibitive. As far as the "leaky slabs", I would suggest as soon as you get one you simply run a bead of crazy glue around the edge so no air can get in, effectively preventing the leakage.

    The best advice here, in my opinion, is to limit your stack to 3-5% of your total assets. Going substantially above 5% can seriously hinder your path to long-term financial security because you’re missing out on the wealth-building power of compounding interest, compounding dividends reinvestment, property value appreciation, stocks appreciation, etc.

    Personally, I'm both a stacker and a numismatist. Some times I will buy a semi-numismatic coin if the premium is low enough. One of my favorites is modern US commemoratives. Ironically, some of the least popular ones are the best buys. That's because they didn't sell out at the mint and are thus comparatively rarer.

      Honestly, I have to disagree. There is no shortage of silver in the ground as long as the silver price allows the miners to go get it. Also, there is LOTS of silver in the hands of stackers and hoarders, and if the price should go up dramatically, many would sell off their stacks and then the price would just plummet just like it always has in the past after a good run-up in price.

    It's not that hard. In my opinion there is only 1 kind of stacker. That's the guy who buys the most amount of silver for the lowest price. Anything more into numismatic value or premium rounds is more on the collector side of stacking which isn't what real stacking is about. There is nothing wrong with that by any means either, I myself have my collection portion of silver. Stacking though is a 1 minute video. 1) Set a budget. 2) Buy generic rounds or constitutional "junk silver". 3) Start again next paycheck. This is for stacking and not profit stacking or numismatic stacking. My 3 step guide is for dummies with some google experience.

I recently purchased a 1922 Peace Dollar common date from one of my lcs and he sold me a fake one. I don’t think he did it on purpose. Check the weight, if its over or extremely under its most likely fake . it passes the magnet test on a big magnet but not a small one and it’s only magnetic on the edges. Use calipers cause it was thicker than it should be to. It got by me cause I made the mistake of letting my guard down cause he’s a coin dealer.

    I’m interested in stacking silver, because I have a problem with spending money. Stacking silver would be like spending your money but still keeping it.
    Constructive criticism: I’ve watched a few videos about stacking silver. The main thing I think you’re missing is: tax considerations. If you sell over $1000 in a single transaction, the transaction is reported to the IRS and you’re subject to capital gains taxes. This applies to junk silver, bars, and some coins. It does not apply to silver eagle bullions. This means that if you don’t want to have to sell to multiple vendors or if you want to stack 100oz bars (a single one is over the tax reporting amount), the bullions are astronomically the better investment.

      Ps 91sealYhwh buying silver to get out of a financial rut is not the way. You need to be somewhat stable before you buy any PM. If you don’t have the money, why’d you spend it? You should grind those bills away then stack silver and gold.

      Ps 91sealYhwh I mean sure if silver goes to $300 an Oz and you have a good amount of silver. I highly doubt silver will reach $300 an OZ any time soon though. I guess you made a couple bucks though. Sell your silver and buy a somewhat reliable car.

    • @Thomas-uw4ot
      @Thomas-uw4ot Před 4 lety +1

      Ps 91sealYhwh When are you looking to sell? Silver is more of a hedge against inflation than an investment btw.

    • @JeremyB8419
      @JeremyB8419 Před 4 lety

      Ps 91sealYhwh $100 is plausible. With investing, though, it’s usually a better idea to aim for “good enough”s rather than “best”s. If you aim for “good enough”s you end up turning a decent profit most the time. If you aim for “best”s, you usually end up missing the “good enough”s and get jack squat. Even if you cashed in at $60, you’d still have more than tripled your money, and the likelihood of getting that $60 if it goes that high is guaranteed, but if you hold of for $100, there’s a much higher probability that it would turn right back around down to $20 than that it would go to $100. Be ready to settle and be content with your earnings when the time comes.

    Awesome video, I subscribed. I have one complaint though, you said Ebay was a great place to buy. Ebay may indeed be a great place to buy if it is done through reputable dealers. Otherwise it is shady as F. One additional thing I have a question about is why are so many people upset about the queens image being on some coins? Considering that for my whole life she has been depicted on roughly half of the worlds coins for the obvious reason it has always confused me. If you think ahead to who is going to be on it next you might find yourself concerned about the backlash that is going to cause. Keep up the good work sir.

    Thank you for teaching me that $1.40 rule. So I do have a question about the spot price of silver. Let's say the spot price was $20.00. Does that mean if you went to buy say $1.40 worth of junk silver you would pay 20.00 at the coin store? I also was wondering about buying Canadian Maple Leafs and Silver Eagles, so thank you for addressing those type of coins.

    • @simonsayssilver7421
      @simonsayssilver7421 Před 4 lety

      You have the right idea $1.40 is an Oz of silver, so if silver was $20 that’s how much it’s weight is worth. Most likely you won’t get at cost you always have to pay a bit extra the goal is to get as close as possible but right at spot is extremely rare especially now July 2020

      For larger amounts like full rolls of ounce rounds there are some excellent and reliable vendors. APMEX is probably tops but they charge more because of the weight their name carries (EXCEPT for short flash sales that makes it worthwhile being on their email list), but my go-to is Gainesville Coins, every bit as reliable, just not as well known as APMEX. I've ordered from Gainesville many times and have had nothing but good experience with them. A vendor closely following Gainesville is SD Bullion, I don't often use them but have had zero problems. Both also have daily deals, loss-leaders used to increase their customer base, that are often well worth checking out. Golden State Mint is another vendor that has a great reputation, though I haven't used them myself.
      I generally don't find great silver deals on eBay, with the exception of big name companies' one day sales you'll see if you're on their email list, but for old fractional gold coins it can be terrific IF you go with a *reliable* seller...as in high feedback numbers with better than 98.5% positives. The 20 franc gold coins are just under 1/5 ozt. of .900 fine gold and along with Austrian 1 (or 4, but that's expensive) ducat coins are quite affordable. Just spend a few hours' research into their specs so you can quickly calculate whether a particular auction is a good deal or not. The Austrian 1 ducat have 0.1107 ozt. gold and are a fine choice for the really small coins, but my very favorite are the 20 franc pieces. All of these were standardized by the 19th century Latin Monetary Union so no matter what country made them or if they're denominated in francs, florins, or Hungarian fortins, they ALL contain 0.1867 ozt. gold in .900 fine (alloyed with copper) form. If you can just remember .1107 and .1867 you have what you need to know.

      @@mu2freighter Thank you for the information. I didn't know the 20 Franc Gold Coins are under 1/5 ozt of .900. I appreciate the time you took to reply to my comment.

    • @mu2freighter
      @mu2freighter Před 5 lety +3

      @@CrystlRain27 don't forget those Austrian 1 ducat coins either...they usually go for the same or even less than modern 1/10 ozt coins, but you get almost 10% more gold for your money (.1107 ozt.) if you want to keep to an easier budget. There are loads of other gold foreign coins available, but these give you a good starting point.

    Great video.
    A slabbed coin with a "BU" grade is ridiculous (for an ASE). The definition of BU is MS-63 or higher. Even "Gem BU" is only a minimum of MS-65. In the ASE world, either 63 or 65 would put it in the *CULL* category.
    Some competitors to the ASE and Maple Leafs are the Britannias and Philharmonics. Once when I was searching for the lowest premiums over spot, a seller had Philharmonics cheaper than even generic rounds! It just depends on things being overstocked that they need to sell quickly.

  • @ChaplainDaveSparks

    Very *RARELY* will a slab "leak" unless it was defective or improperly sealed. BUT ... the coin may have been toned when it was graded (toning won't necessarily lower the grade, and some people pay *MORE* for a toned coin) ... OR ... something already present on the coin (but not visible to the grader) may have eventually affected the coin's surface.
    The VERY WORST idea is to buy a raw (bullion) coin and then paying to have it graded. Most coins that you buy already graded sell for LESS than a raw coin plus grading. (Big dealers get a hefty discount when they submit an entire "monster box" of Silver Eagles at the same time.)
    Most ASEs made by the US Mint will grade MS70 or MS69 ... but that's often only true when you buy a sealed tube or monster box. Why? Dealers can submit an entire monster box for grading and specify that only coins that grade MS69 or MS70 should be slabbed. Any coins not meeting that minimum grade will be returned unslabbed. Guess what happens to these (MS68 or lower) coins? They can still legitimately be sold as "Gem BU" because that only means MS65 and above.
