Dude you're a superstar in the making. Been watching your stuff for years and your videos are never a waste of time like alot of youtubers get to. I enjoy every vid from years ago as I do today. Hopefully one day you'll want to do a tour of my garden right down the street from Cox Arboretum in Canton ga.

Jim, thanks for all you do. You have an obvious love of plants. Your videos are short, consice, good usable info and not much fluff.

  • @HandcraftedintheFoothills

We should have bought a house on a bigger lot LOL I want all of these!!! Thanks Jim and Stephany! Appreciate all you both do for us gardeners. Happy Holiday!

This video was great, but it definitely did not help me narrow down my choices--I want them all! Thanks for such a great overview. I do wish you would go back in the winter to show the foliage of the plants that change color. It's been hard to find good pictures online, and the stores often don't have many in stock during winter so I can see them in person.

Planted nice assortment of these no flowers first year so hoping next year they come around. Starburst, Twist, Majesty looking forward to some blooms. Ordered thru plants by mail and arrived in great shape with loads of flowers. Would like to get some more! 🌺🙂

I hit the jackpot and found 13 encore azaleas (a mix of twist and Lily) for only $4 each on clearance. They also had a red variety on sale too, but I didn’t get them. My suv was loaded. They were wiped out so fast! I’m thankful I was in the right place at the right time! ❤ I also got knockout roses, another variety of roses, and agapanthus!

Love my Starbursts, carnation and twists! They do surprisingly well in 10a southwest florida....our sun usually fries anything that's supposed to be a 9/10 plant.

Dudley nursery is one of our suppliers and I'm sure the others as well. In my experience, seeing the variety we cary growing in containers, the bonfire is a great continuous summer flowering variety. If you like red, like I do, and want a good repeat bloomer the bonfire is a great choice

I remember when Encore azaleas first hit the market. I think it was Flowerwood that first offered them to nurseries, and I traveled down to Mobile to purchase a block for the nursery that I bought for.
There were only 4/5 varieties then,I knew they were going to be a big deal. We anxiously awaited a red to be available . I think Autumn Embers was still a year or two away.

Encore needs to hire you to update their site.
Also... The size of those nurseries is incredible.

Love this video. Since these azaleas are repeat blooming and you mentioned that some of these varieties can be kept within certain sizes, when could they be pruned in order to not lose a bloom period? I’m guessing maybe immediately after fall blooming. ??

Such beauty, curious does this mean the death of old varieties... or just make em rare.. I still love heirloom varieties over hybrids in the vegetable world.. but guess hybrids in the flower world mean more beauty. Appreciate all your work!

Why is it so hard to find examples of a single or thick trunks?, I have bought everything from the $ 20 one gallon to the $ 80 five gallon, and everything has come with multiple stems potted in the same container.

I know this video is a year old but hopefully someone sees my comment. Im trying to decide on planting hydrangeas (limelight or incrediball) or a row of azaleas in my backyard. Its a wooded area behind me but the yard is fenced in. I have one azalea currently that is about 5ft tall, the blooms are deep pink so not light colored. Im just getting into gardening and learning. Should I mix in the hydrangeas or create an azalea "hedge" ?

Jim, this was very helpful. I have a good-sized (maybe 2.5 feet high and wide) yellow azalea (the name of which I've long forgotten). It has gotten a little burned by the severe direct sun we've been getting these past few summers. The shade tree I had was taken-down a few years ago because it was dangerously large. My questions are, (1) Can I transplant this successfully, (2) If so, what time of the year would be best, (3) and is there anything special I need to do to make it happy again? Thank you, Donald (I'm zone 8 - Vancouver, WA)
