- Check out this local news story about Willie Nelson and the 1974 Austin music scene. There is footage of Willie performing with Waylon's band and playing Waylon's Tele. The coolest thing about the footage is Waylon in his prime sitting on the couch beside Willie just listening to him. Waylon looks like he has likely been up for a few days. The Waylon footage plays again at the end zoomed in on him.

Waylon was day 6 of a 3 day bender
😀
I believe that.
He never hid the fact that he did drugs but can you imagine how worn out he was here as well.
I was going to say something similar…but my comment won’t be better than yours…so I’ll just give you a thumbs up and be on my way…
😂
Love how Waylon just appears out of nowhere and doesn’t say a word lol. Just brooding in the background haha
He's coked out. Watch his breathing.
@@allenmckinney2082 yeah at the end of the video I zoomed in on him so he could be seen better. You obviously saw the same thing I did.
Still good to see Willie playing Waylons guitar
He was probably on lsd
Waylon looked like he was starting to trip balls in a room full of sober people and was trying hard to be cool and normal. Been there, buddy. ❤️
😅
A quiet box at a loud party
they had just got off stage from performing all night , but yeah they probably had a few drinks
@@cameroneagle4370 Yeah, just a few drinks 😂
I'm there right now
Waylon was loud without saying a word.
Waylon had not crashed yet, but he was definitely coming down for a landing...
Awesome Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings 🎸👍
So sad we don’t have record stores anymore(very few). It was fun and nice to see everyone looking through the music. Everything online is just not the same 😢 😞
Waylon is toast
This is such a real treat. So nostalgic. A snapshot of beautiful musical history. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I'm just glad that I happened to find it hidden in the middle of a seriously long video of news stories catalogued under WFAA - Jones Collection @ SMU.
Waylon was completely mashed on that couch
Awesome rare footage of Waylon. I was hoping he was going to talk a bit
Been a long time since a reporter said he was going to talk to people with differing opinions
Did the reporters simply not know that the guy next to Willie Nelson, 17 sheets to the wind, was Waylon Jennings!? You know, just a founding father of Outlaw Country, no big deal.
Haha! This is good television...
(“progressive” country;)
"We don't want a bunch of *high roller, rip-off artists* from other parts . . . come in here and foul it up for the rest of the uh, people."
Well those people showed up in 2023 and gave themselves awards.
Truer words were never spoken my friend.
They showed up a lot earlier than 2023…
waylon was so naturally cool
Waylon was meditating
That’s one word for it hahaha
Thanks for the great video! Waylon was interviewed by another channel at the same time :D And good to see that Willie hasn't been old for ever :)
Wow that is great to know! Is there footage of that available anywhere?
@@waylonvids No, I just mean that he was so high that he was on "another channel" :D There's for sure no footage of that :D :D :D
@@VK-vm4xe lol sorry I didn't catch that!
Willie using Waylon’s guitar just looks weird lol
And Magical
I was going to see these guys every time they got close enough since the 70's til Waylon passed. And I've never seen either one play the other's guitar before. That was cool, couldn't believe it and barely documented.
I wondered if anyone else noticed that.
Waylon and Willie had been up for at least 10 days when this interview took place. Austin’s own KOKE, indeed
@willienelsonofficialfaninb2888 Willie & Waylon were the soundtrack to my childhood. Specifically, Red headed stranger, Waylon live & “The Outlaws” with Jessie and Tompall. My grandmother would play those three records over and over again and I would sing along with her. I got my love of rocknroll & songwriter stuff like Leon Russell & Paul Simon from my dad’s records & my love of the outlaw stuff came from grandma. Later on I immersed myself in George & Tammy, Buck and the Buckaroos and Hag, and of course Hank. expanded my country horizons, but my grandma strictly loved the outlaw stuff, thank god she taught me all about those records. Now I dig Shooter and Hank 3, Jason Isbell, great newer artists like those. This is the music of my life and thank you for posting this stuff for us. Happy trails to you
Thise folks from KOKE FM really should have helped poor Waylon out in his time of need.
Gotta love Waylon Jennings ❤
This is great stuff to hear.
Unfortunately all those scumbags he was talking about have in fact ruined Austin
willie playing waylons geetar is something i had never seen before
I hadn't either
Me either.
The Koke fm radio station was a nice touch😂
Willie playing waylon’s Telecaster
Hey Waylon!
Waylon look ripped
He looked very tired for sure.
Could you please upload the full Austin City Limits Songwriters Special from Season 5 in 1980? With Willie Nelson, Hank Cochran, Red Lane, Floyd Tillman, Whitey Shafer, and Sonny Throckmorton; It has The Southwest Texas Public Broadcasting Council logo, Austin City Limits intro and funding credits, Lickona's introduction, closing and funding credits, and the 1971-1984 PBS logo at the end.👍
If I had it I would post it for sure.
Is Marty Stouffer the commentator?? Wild America!!
Legends!
No mention of or even words from Waylon who was sitting right there?
I'm right there with you that it is WEIRD that though he was shown on the news, NOT ONCE did they even say his name, and they didn't broadcast him saying even one word. Something is really screwy.
Waylon’s presence was adequately strong that he needed no introduction.
Dude didn't even know there was a camera there
Waylon was wiped out and Willie borrowed his guitar. I’m glad that later, Waylon kicked the drug habit and enjoyed his sobriety with his family.
Wow Waylon was reeeally not sober there xD 2:31
He looked worn out.
Waylon looks BAKED!
That was back when the term “liberal” was a respected moniker. Today, in 2024, I am considered conservative to the core. Apples for apples, I would have been a liberal then.
willie!!!!
Back when Austin's glory days
Beautiful song I grew up on as a child 💜🤍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🚸🚸🚸🚸🚸🚸🚸🚸🙏🙏 Amen Jesus is coming back
Jesus is coming back ? Lol. That's what Christians have been saying for 2000 years. Your myth is a joke. Why don't you try taking responsibility for yourself instead of praying to imaginary nonentities ?
You know for how much Waylon was on coke, I think this is one of the only times Waylon was very obviously not sober on camera, there’s definitely been other times he wasn’t sober on camera but he didn’t make it anywhere near as obvious on camera as much as he did here
He was HOT. I don't care if he was baked or not😋💋
My Stars was Waylon a Hottie! Gorgeous! RIP ⭐️
Waylon high as fuck
Waylon speaking cool
Waylon high as a kite........
Love this shit , I can smell it
take yo bath
I can't smell anything. My nose is full of candy
the short haired stranger 🤠
Austin turned in to what Willie didn’t want. Waylon would hate it.
Haha, Ole Watasha pleading the 5th on this one, smart man. Higher than Cooter Brown 😂
That lick at 3:42! Phew
I hear people raising cane saying country is no longer country. It's funny, I remember my father saying the same thing about Willy, Waylon, Dwight Yoakam, and Garth Brooks. He was a Country and Western fan, but he gave in, and loved Merrill Haggard. I remember not long before he died, he owned a 74 ford 1 ton, and I moved it. I was shocked to hear him listening to the Eagles. I teased him and he said he had gotten a tape of them at the auction and had not taken it out for three weeks. Gotta change to grow, if not you're like a ball stuck on an escalator....
Ha that's a good story. I am doing the opposite, coming from rock (heavy metal lol), and exploring country for the first time (Waylon Jennings discography in particular). Feels good to stretch my horizons
NEVER keep all your eggs in one basket. The more you learn, and you have to experience to really learn, the more you realize how much enjoyment in life you actually kept from yourself. Glad to hear you are expanding your horizons, you'll enjoy it...@@derekd1997
Who is Merrill Haggard?
Listen to Creed Fisher- Damn Sure Ain't Merle
@@mcard48able Life Of A Working Man is as Nashville country sounding as it gets. He reminds me a little of Jamey Johnson, a lot of his songs I can't relate to, but the ones I can I cherish....
Can’t get much better than this shit lol
KOKE FM in Austin - Ya just can't make this stuff up
Lmao right?!
Hoss looked like he was on a 6 day bender
Waylon was smoking a joint he was probably coked up too.
These two were uh up for a few nights at this point during filming 😵💫😳😆
W A Y L O N
It's funny the station was named "koke fm" that probably field the whole station lol waylon was so high he lost the power of speech lol
Austin is nearly ruined by yuppies in cognito
Lol Waylons fucked up right here
Been awake about 7

Is there anywhere I can find the willie concert footage at the end?
As far as I know all that exists is what is in this video with time code at the bottom of the screen zoomed further out than how I presented it here.
4:12 🔹🔹🔹🔷
Waylon 🤣🤣🤣
Is that Michael cera
Welcome to crazy 😘
Lmao ..waylon is breathing 100 miles ah minuite. Coked out...lol.

KOKE FM 😂😂😂
i feel waylon's struggle to stay calm. lol ready to tell them to move on so i can hit another bump
Liberal-minded, in Texas????
Well I guess that's changed.
What are you on about? Austin has been one of the most liberal cities in the country for over half a century.
A right winger country fans nightmare.
Pretty sure waylon was right wing lol
@@therealrip 100 percent lol. Waylon was right wing and Willie more left wing but they have said they never let their differences (including politically) get in the way of their friendship and partnership
😮
Yap yap yap…liberal, liberal, liberal…
Don’t be a pussy
Waylon is wayloned.
