A Canoe Camping Adventure in Scotland

  • Hello everyone, we travel back up to Scotland for a ten day canoe camping trip. The first port of call was Loch Tay, followed by Loch Rannoch, Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin (the Loch no Englishman dare pronounce) and then on to Loch Arkaig. The weather was generally good until the end of the trip, I was surprised at the amount of midge still kicking about though, but the mild damp weather suits them.

    Another great canoe camping video. Loch a'Mheadoin (Ben-na-ven) is a magical place and its seems you're very much drawn to the place. You should also explore Loch Affric which is just as magical although there are fewer trees but you will find some gorgeous granny pines there. I've found Autumn to be best time to go there, the midges are minimal and colours are out of this world. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming. Fred

      Cheers Nell, I saw a Landrover up there with one of those hardshell roof top tents made from alloy I think; it had two huge sturdy roof bars fitted to it. It looked ideal for strapping boats on to it, probably cost a fortune though!

    Paddled Loch Arkaig in early August - so quiet and still, but amazingly very few midges.
    Unfortunately came across a fair amount of camp debris from others, but loads of space in the canoe to take it away for them (erse oles).
    Looking forward to paddling and camping around Loch Affric / Loch Beinn Mheadhoin area (I’m Scottish, but still wouldn’t attempt to pronounce it 😆). Late October early November and calm conditions - need to keep an eye on the forecasts.
    Loving the recent canoeing videos, but love all your other videos, too. Right up my street 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      @Adventure-Outdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      The tent is a Vango Omega 350, I think it’s pretty much identical to the Equinox. I’m thinking about buying another one, they work pretty well for canoe camping 👍

    • @Adventure-Outdoors
      @Adventure-Outdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! The canoe is an Old Town Camper 16, they don't make them anymore unfortunately. It's made out of a lightweight plastic called Royalex but the factory that made the plastic shut down in 2017. They very occasionally come up for sale on the 2nd hand market though 👍

    • @Adventure-Outdoors
      @Adventure-Outdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks mate 👍. Muckboots were great, I ended up getting the Arctic Sport which were a little warm for the weather we had if I'm honest, but they're really comfortable, should be perfect for the colder months.

  • @whatsnottohike
    @whatsnottohike Před 2 lety

    Ah, just spent my Wednesday morning watchng this with my breakfast. Amazing! I love it when the wind is so still that the Loch is like a mirror, so when Tris is paddling, it looks like she's paddling across the sky. What a place to go, can't wait to make it over once things calm down. By the way, what software do you use to edit your videos and is the music you use included with it? I use Power Director 365 which I really like and has lots of music but the music is not always the kind I'm looking for. Anyway, thanks again, your videos just keep getting better and better!

    • @Adventure-Outdoors
      @Adventure-Outdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      Cheers mate! We were lucky to get those conditions on the loch. I use Final Cut Pro to edit, pretty similar to Power Director for just basic editing. CZcams has it's own royalty free audio library, I've tried to link it but it doesn't seem to work! If you just type CZcams audio library into google you should find it 👍
