Sad to say, there are vital issues that were not mentioned in the discussion which are important factors that affect the brewing conflict between the US and China. China, is a communist state that rules by authoritarianism. Being a part of China means, giving up your freedoms- freedom of speech and independent thought. We don’t want a country with so many human rights abuses to be more powerful than it is now.
My take would be, the Philippines should not interfere nor rock the boat on these sensitive issues. However, we should already find ways to develop our independence from the Chinese government when it comes to finances, source of employment, materials, technology. Let’s develop local industries, natural resources and maybe engage in trade with multiple other countries who are on the same level of playing field and values.

The one China policy was dictated by China to isolate Taiwan from having association with other nations as a separate entity, not subordinate to China. It is a fact that Japan made a commitment to support Taiwan in its struggle against the far-reaching reach of PRC.
