@@smasher.338 Her family did not have a part in Hepburn's decision to be an actor. She and her father wanted her to be a surgeon, but her tough time during her first year at college changed that. Her father thought her being an actor would be short lived. Her parents and her thought women should be able to have an abortion if they wanted one and her mother worked to ensure women the right to vote. As a teenager Katharine performed the play Beauty And The Beast (she played the beast) at her house and charged the people viewing so she could purchase a phonograph for Navajo native Americans.
Katharine Hepburn lived a fascinating life and her no-nonsense, fearless independence and outspokenness are indeed worthy of her being considered a role model.

She was way before my time since I was born in 63 so I will have to catch up. Always thought of her as classy and interesting. Not her fault the movies she was in were bombs blame the writers. I saw her On Golden Pond and just watching her was fantastic.

Mary Tyrone, "Long Day's Journey into Night" - truly remarkable performance. Glad you find the subtle nuance in her Christina Drayton. I think if she'd ever watched it, she might have just liked what she did there - it's one of my favorite Kate performances. Also, Violet Venable, "Suddenly, Last Summer".

To pick just ten Katharine Hepburn performances is no easy feat, but they did a good job. My personal favorite KH performance though is Bringing Up Baby. Her slapstick in that movie is the best I've ever seen anyone do period. Good golly I love Katharine Hepburn!
Have lost count of how many times I have watched Bringing up Baby and every time I watch it enjoy it just as much as the first time.

Today I was studying about the academy awards 2020 then I found the best actress award 2020 got by Frances Macdormand, then I go to google and searched the person having maximum academy awards and found the name Catharine there and I came here to know more about her, she is awesome ❤️❤️

Katherine Hepburn is my favorite actress! That said, I was shocked that Adam's Rib was so low on the list - it was her and Spencer Tracy at their very best. Their chemistry was fantastic, their performances were hilarious, and the ending is superb - I thought for sure it would be a contender for the number 1 spot! Great list though and excellent choices all around :)

I think Peter O'Toole had a lot to do with that. You really feel the frisson in their onscreen chemistry. They really played off one another and it elevated both their performances.
And it was Anthony Hopkins film debut. Great movie

She probably would have. I agree. As much as I liked the movie, & I usually like Cate Blanchett, I wasn't too crazy about her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn.

she actually knew it was being made by Hollywood. They informed her about it beforehand.

I think that’s my favorite ending of a movie.
Lion in Winter should've been #1. Hepburn was ASTOUNDING as Eleanor of Aquitaine. She was so layered, so nuanced, and you didn't know if she was being manipulative or genuine or coldly cunning...or all 3 at once. That was a Tour de Force performance. Her role as Mary Tyrone in "A Long Day's Journey Into Night" was also outstanding and should've been mentioned
Some of Miss Hepburn's stellar performances are missing here like "Suddenly Last Summer" "Long Days Journey Into Night" & "Love Among the Ruins"

@@kimsmith1383 I saw Kate Mulgrew in her solo performance of Tea at Five in South Florida - front row seats. She is a dead ringer for Hepburn - from mannerisms to facial expressions to vocal inflections. Unbelievable. Kate Mulgrew is awesome too!
because she has the same energy and actually when she was younger people compared her to a modern day Hepburn. Kate Mulgrew actually played the role of Katherine Hepburn in the Matthew Lombardo stage production Tea at Five there's an audio book you can listen too and its really entertaining.

I would have loved a movie with Katherine Hepburn and Bette Davis starring together. Those two would have "set the screen ablaze".
Desk Set has always been my favorite yet very few people have ever even heard of it.
Would have love to see her in The Game of Thrones. She was great in The Lion in Winter.

Love them all, hard to pick a favorite. The ones I've watched over and over are The Philadelphia Story and The Lion in Winter. They never get old.

Stage Door would make a terrific #11! She was an incredible actress and so diverse in her range of characters and modes- comedy, drama, and all that falls between! Bringing Up Baby is my favorite but they all squeeze in somewhere in the number one spot!
"Long Days Journey Into Night" should be included
This is a great video. I loved that "Brining Up Baby," was so high on the list, but you really should have had "Long Day's Journey Into Night," in honorable mentions. It's one of her lesser talked about films, though she was nominated for an Oscar.
I liked Rooster Cogburn too (w John Wayne).
agree! can't choose one over the other, they are all superb, but while I can't say which performance is best I adored the "lion In winter" as well as summertime, suddenly last summer and aa you see I just cant make up my mind.

I agree. Long Day's Journey is incredible. It is a "bitch" of a part and Hepburn is the only one to have done it justice. I also think that Lion in Winter would be number 1 or 2 with the previous mention.
Awful list. Holiday is incredibly low and The Lion in Winter should be number one! It is not only her best performance, but one of the best performances ever, male or female!

First off, "MsMojo"??? I missed this all these months because you labeled a Hollywood Icon as "girls only." *hmph*
Second, The Lion in Winter as merely #6??? Outrageous. That was her role for the ages. Also, you had this role featured in the "Top 10 Best Actress Winners", and you had her performance in Guess Whose Coming TO Dinner featured (not ranked) in the "the most Underwhelming winners" list. Yet here, you have Dinner surpassing Lion - Seems like a contradiction of sorts??? (sorry, you're dealing with a fanatic here).
Thirdly, wished you had at least mentioned Suddenly, Last Summer, but glad you had Bringing Up Baby where it was.
Lastly, while I griped a lot, I did have a lot of fun with this list. I hope you do Bette Davis sometime, she' my favorite Classic.

Bringing up Baby is now recognized as the classic it is....the movie audiences of the 30's just were not ready for it
I saw a bit of Alice Adams and just had a figure out what movie it was and who was in it. Thanks for helping me figure that out and making me what to see every single one of her movies

Probably African Queen. When I was a kid they would show a movie every Saturday night. The program was called The Fabulous 52. I saw a lot of great movies back then. I’m somewhat of a Kate Hepburn expert,(saw her twice in Coco), but actually ended up naming my daughter Tracy. And ya’ know what? I don’t care what Scotty, and the rumors and scandal sheets say, there was a deep, deep, LOVE between Hepburn and and Tracy.
