    We came up with this concept years ago and we like to call it the " Poor man's Sluice Box " and it works great for quick samples, breaking up clay and running Lode and Placer Gold material if you don't have a Sluice Box. There are a lot of different ways to do it but the principles are the same and you can get creative with it by adding a catch at the bottom. If you have any ideas on how to improve this method, just leave us a comment below because we would all love to hear it and if you want to see more on getting Placer Gold from caves and our Drift mine, just check this video out. czcams.com/video/AQVKJuey0fg/video.html

      That method works better if you drill 4-2 inch holes just under the lip of the bucket or two-thirds of the way up the bucket.. and if water is a precious commodity then you put it in the black mixing tub.. I like using that method but I use a 4ft tall freestanding drill press.. it works like a cyclone bowl separator.. it's a good way to make about 30 or 40 buckets concentrate so you can bring your concentrate home and run it through a sluice or a gold cube. If you live in an area with black sand. Take a 2-inch PVC pipe and 2 end caps about two ft long go find at your local hardware store neodymium magnets about an inch-and-a-half in diameter with a whole drills for the center of them so that you can attach them to a shaft for a paint mixer or drill all thread works pretty good too.. when you stick your PVC pipe with your magnets into a bucket of black saint and spend it with a drill the blacks and sticks to the magnets but it oscillates a magnetic field which the black sand and the gold falls out of it..

    I've been watching your Gold mining videos for two(2) years...I haven't gone gold mining yet (I'm slowing down a little when I hit 65 yrs old, you know), but, by my watching your videos, Jeff and Slim, I got all of the gold mining equipment, except a Stratosphere or a stratifier, a Gold Monster II medal detector and a way to pack everything upon my Thoroughbred race horse to go on a gold digger vacation out here upon the western borderline of the 1867 to 1889 Chisholm Cattle Trail down here in North Texas. I'll first check out my secret place where I prior found gold at years ago in a dry wash...that has upon one(1) side of a 3-foot high white colored embankment like what you was digging lot gold from underground in a Drift Mine one(1) of your videos, where the white rock just crumbles, and is full of prehistoric little sea shells and river pebbles. I'll have to check and see if I can buy the land with the mineral rights, so I can copy both Slim and you, in digging a Drift Mine as well, in striking, as you both call it, "The Mother Load !" Then, my race horse and I go build a house upon the land, so he can have acers to run and grase in, and I can officially say that we're no longer homeless, just living way out in the woods and wilderness, trying to just survive (thanks to Biden and his each/every month 7-percent inflation for the pass 2-1/2 years)(it's already hard enough to take-care-of and feed a race horse...but I can get to our gold prospect stake real quick, though).

    I use a Lowe's cement mixer to clean all paydirt before I sluice it. It has a seamless rubberized plastic drum that's basically a giant rock tumbler and quiet, too. It holds a full bucket of dirt, add some water and a bit laundry detergent, run it and periodically tilt it, to pour out the clays and organics, then keep adding water and repeat. While it's running, it concentrates the heavies in the back of the drum. Leave the paddles installed, otherwise the dirt ain't moving. I call it my wash plant. Not as portable as the bucket method, but I did have it set up in my kitchen once...(not a good idea!!)

    Harbor Freight just came up with a sieve for the bottom of a bucket with about 1/8 in holes in it for car washing to remove fine sands so you don't scratch the car. May help to separate out the big stuff.

    • @sparky6086

      Speaking of Harbor Freight, I remember reading a comment on a CZcams video, where the guy commented, that he used a Harbor Freight concrete vibrator & 5 gallon bucket to do a similar thing, that Jeff does here with great success. He had details, but I don't remember what video it was on, except that it had to do with finding gold? It was at least several years ago.
      I'll look for the sieve you speak of. I think, that you have a good idea!

      Referring to the concrete vibrater: IT'S true. BECAUSE the gold is heavier. That's why when I was building bridges. The inspector watched U closely because U'R only allowed to let the concrete drop a small distance. AND U were only allowed to just touch the concrete with the vibrater to move it. BECAUSE if U tickled it to much the stone in the concrete would drop to the bottom and not stay suspended which would weaken the concrete.

    I saw a similar method years ago using 2 buckets. You drill a 2” hole in the bottom of one and a line of 1/2” holes about 2 ins up. Push a plumbing cap in the hole like a cup. Set it in the other bucket. Put your samplings in the bucket fill it about 3/4 full with water. Stir it quickly with your arm. The fines are pulled to the center and deposit into the cup. Lift the bucket out pull the cup out, the water drains and the tailings are around the outer edge.

    I reckon that any panning technique that retains gold, and washes away the lighter stuff is a good one. My dad used the old style steel pans without riffles. He treated them with vinegar to roughen the surface and then oil it to darken it - all the explanation I ever was given. The finish work is a little different because you swirl the pan gently to create a "tail" of the gold and black sand. Historically, you can find mentions in various publications about Chinese miners reworking tailings left by American miners and recovering respectable pay. We are apparently kind of impatient.

    Should work very nicely on large beach sand type deposits

    • @Chaphillionaire
      @Chaphillionaire Před 11 měsíci +2

      Give it a go but from years of using this method, I think that your recovery will be higher using a wide sluice. Your beach gold will be very small. And while the bucket system will capture some of it, I guarantee that at least half of gold that small will wash right out tipping the bucket over while spraying water into it.
      If you really want to use a bucket, get a pcv end cap 2-4", trace the cap (minus the lip) on the bottom of the bucket, cut out with a hole saw. Now your pvc cap (the flat white kind) will make a water tight seal at the bottom as well as make a depression lower than the bottom of the bucket. Material, spin with drill. If you shorten the height of the bucket to match the strength of your drill, you will not need to top it over. You can then pull the "plug" straight up and out of the bucket. The heavies stay in the end cap and the rest flushes itself out of the bottom.
      Happy hunting!

    I have been meaning to comment on this for awhile. I make bubble hash out of my flower. It is the same method, five gallon bucket except I use different mesh bags to collect the trichomes “super fines” way finer than flour gold. The trichomes-resin glands go through a series of mesh bags as I mentioned 220-75 etc… back in the day I used silkscreens that were to beat up to use for printing shirts. When I started following you like six years ago I was like wow I do this except with a different fine. Same drill attachment smh thanks again and get well soon!

  • @artoliver8740
    @artoliver8740 Před měsícem

    A friend told me about you using a drill like me. I do my cons a bit differently. I put enough water in the bucket to cover my cons and then beat them up for about a minute. Then I pour off the water. The blonde sands will clump up and you just lean the bucket over and pull them out by hand.
    The black sands are at the bottom with the gold underneath. Add enough water to settle the blacks in one corner then give it a little shake for a few seconds. Pour the water off and use a scoop to remove most of the black. You'll end up with about a half a cup of black. Rinse that into a pan and all your gold is in one small pan load to work.
    I started doing this probably twenty years ago. It conserves water, it's fast, you don't need to haul all those cons home to process. I tried to share this with others online but most were selling sluice boxes so they would delete my posts.
    I agree that it's way faster and easier than a sluice box or gold wheel.
    Try my method and see how little water you need to process your cons. I work out of a 50 yr old Jeep so I don't haul much equipment. I've even found gold in dry washer tailing other guys have left.

    Per usual i enjoyed sir Jeff Williams keeping it real , teaching me how to find gold, unlike any other. You have a gift.. you are gifted in the ways of being able to explain things that are normally scientifically out of reach for my attention to grasp. And your sense of humor is also a sign of being a real smart man. , And since I am a son of Leroy that's spot on. I've probably left enough gold behind to sink a pontoon boat. With a new found sense of hope, and a can't give up attitude I'm going on eyeball deep for one more pan of stratification and all that other stuff you said. Jeff, get a 2-3 inch plug, that has a lower surface than the bottom of the bucket, drill a hole in the middle of the bucket that will tightly fit the sunken plug. When you create the vortex the gold will spin into the the center of the bucket and into the sunken plug. When the spinning of the material is complete, reach in bucket and pull the plug that contains the heavies. I found plugs in FedEx shipping tubes for drawing and maps and in the plumbing section.

    Oh Jeff i love your character you make me laugh. Your love for your wife and family comes out of your heart. Great stuff to see and watch. I pan till I get down to fines, then I use a large snuffer bottle with a 1/4 inch tube to suck it all up no fine gold can float away that way. The snuffer Is a sports energy drink bottle with a foot of stainless steel tubing. I transfer the snuffer into a old peanut butter jar and process at home in my mini recirculating sluice. Time in the field is maximised to get as much cons out as possible. The jars are easy to label and store for later clean outs. Don't waste time doing a fine clean out in the field as the fine gold will float on surface tension. Get as much as you can while you can.

    This reminds me of an old story. Many years ago when I was a kid in my 20s, I was in Sonora where they have the old steam train. There was a guy there that had a tourist gold panning set up. For $10 he'd sell you a pan full of salted sand and you could pan it out in a 20 ft section of wooden flume that had water running through it and was set up in front of his business. It was about 6pm and he was closing up shop. As he was closing, I had an idea. I waited until he was gone, and there was nobody around. Then I took a 5 gal bucket and a small shovel over to where the water was running out of the flume and onto the ground. I dug up that dirt and filled my bucket. When I took the dirt to a stream and panned it out, I was amazed how much gold was in it. That was some of the richest ground I ever worked. lol

    Love Your videos, I have really learned a lot. Old timers say always always always shake your pan side to side, never swirl. When you swirl you are creating a current like the outside bend of a creek and moving the gold back towards the top of the pan instead of keeping it in the bottom (referring to a tilted pan). Even after washing the first layers off, bring the pan back and shake side to side to restratify and keep shaking side to side as you tilt the pan, never swirl. That is what I was taught by old timers who seemed very successful to me. Thanks for all your videos..
