I love this positivity Father. These are difficult times as a layperson in the workplace; hearing attacks of the Church. Hearing your ideas do give me some positive inspiration. Thank you
Father Barron, A friend of mine said something yesterday that goes well with what you say in this video, "Every saint has a past.....and every sinner has a future."
@wordonfirevideo Yes me too I will pray for you, I'm a seminarian and what father says from minute 7:30 and up is very enlightening and motivating to me personally. God bless you father. Bob, Jerusalem
We thank you for your vocation. We thank you for placing your gifts- your talents, your studies, your person- at the service of Jesus Christ and His Church. I agree with you that this is the best time for all Catholics to witness and evangelize. I hope that the entire RMPTR Facebook community, spanning over 20 countries and numbering over 17,000 strong, can help WOF jointly promote the "Catholicism" series as we each do our part to serve our Lord by loving and serving His Church. Totus Tuus.
I do not believe anyone has had a more difficult time resisting the sins of the flesh than I have. Twice God the Father has inflicted satanic attacks on me, and still I fall, knowing what fate awaits me. I have studied the parable of the unjust steward, a stumbling block for the PROTESTants who can't get past the money aspect to comprehend the sins of the Poor Souls in Purgatory which need to be offset by the Church Militant's prayers and sacrifices. Fortunately, there is a *VERY* effective prayer in this regard called the Chaplet of St. Gertrude. Prayed after receiving the Eucharist so that I contain the Precious Blood of Christ Jesus, each verse promises to release 1,000 souls from Purgatory. Prayed as a Rosary, this releases 50,000 souls. I calculate having released nearly 1,000,000 soyls, and as proof, my licentious practices have virtually vanished. Get the gratitude of those who gave the power to appeal to God on your behalf, and are incomprehensively zealous to pray for us here on earth who, few though we are, practice this devotion with the Greatest Gift God ever gave, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ Jesus!!!
“Have courage and do not fear the assaults of the Devil. Remember this forever; it is a healthy sign if the devil shouts and roars around your conscience, since this shows that he is not inside your will.” 😇 Padre Pio 🙏🏻4us
Very nice video, Fr. Robert. My brother is in the SF Bay Area and has begun seminary there. Thank you for all the work you do. Looking forward to reading your book.
@wimsweden You're perfectly right in suggesting that God doesn't "come to a decision" the way temporal beings do. The decision to create--like all of God's other actions--remains identical to his essence. Creation itself, of course, belongs to time, but the decision is coincident with God's eternity. This distinction should solve the second difficulty.
@wimsweden All such terms are being used analogically. We speak of God knowing things, for instance; but this doesn't mean that God passes from non-knowledge to knowledge. He is, rather, actus purus, pure actuality. We speak of God as willing; but this doesn't mean that he passes from non-willing to willing. Rather, each of his acts is identical to his essence.
I know that I'm perverse, but back when I was in the Catholic school system in the 50.'s and 69's, I was disappointed that no priest ever tried to tempt me. What was wrong with me? We know about what was going back then back then...
@wimsweden The point is that there is no "sequence" in regard to divine actions, considered in themselves. God exists and acts in the eternal now. Creation itself (the realm of finite beings) indeed exists in time, but God's act, considered in itself, is atemporal. I don't see the problem.
@wimsweden No. The essential argument is that a radically contingent universe requires, finally, a non-contingent ground. Without that ultimate source, a non-self-explanatory universe wouldn't exist at all.
@ShadowLink108 Well, I'm not just "putting secularists down." In many other videos, I've elaborated my arguments for the claim that secularism is both dangerous and irrational. Check those out in order to get the full picture.
Mr. Barron- With your rational thinking and deep thoughts, you would have made a fine atheist. Congratulations on your 25 years. Are you sure I can't talk you out of another 25?
@dumpmist This is a good example of what I call "the non-God of the gaps." Because we can't, for the moment, specify the cause of a given phenomenon, we say, "it just came from nothing!" Wouldn't it be wiser and more humble to say that we don't fully understand the causal ground of certain phenomena?
@wordonfirevideo "non-God of the gaps" Ha ha, I see your point. Skeptics can be very biased towards finding a "natural explanation". I wholly agree with you that it's wise to be humble when we don't fully understand, and even when we think that we do fully understand. Maybe we can never hope to fully understand, but as we collect more and more observations, we can at least exclude more and more possibilities.
@billcat2 Well, I quite agree. Take a look at the latest findings of the John Jay Study, published today. This represents the Catholic Church's very serious attempt to answer the very question you pose.
The truth will always be persecuted. Instead of pointing fingers at who's to blame why not help to fix the root problem of these sex scandals? Understand what caused these priest to act in such an unChristian way. Father Barron you have done an incredible job at getting young catholics to rise up and stand firm against secularism. We live in a society where media controls the flow of information, leaving out facts, and twisting the words to get a better story. Vivat Jesu!
Congrats father, I'd like to know your thoughts on the book "Lucifer's Lodge," about many of these abuse scandals being linked with priests that also practiced satanism or what you would call esoterism. William H Kennedy, the author claims he got much of his information from the late Fr.Malachi Martin. I would very much like to hear your opinion on this since Intelligent as he was, Fr.Martin had some pretty scarry things to say about our times.
@zztstenglish Take another listen to the video. I fully acknowledge the darkness of this time. My point is that it is precisely dark times that call forth the greatest sanctity and courage. And believe me, I know all about opposition from the culture. Take a look at my CZcams forums sometime!
Bishop Robert Barron I have personal debts that I feel are getting in the way of my discernment. I know there are programs to relieve student loans but what can I do to comfortably discern (or even go to seminary...I've been feeling the call to priesthood for years) while addressing financial concerns?
Fr Barron is right on about so much...one problem..he still implies that the Church is the clergy and hierarchy...it may be unconscious but unfortunately it's there
@dpmsdealer I have a friend, whose dad wants to be a priest, but he can't because he is married. Instead I think he's taking classes to become a deacon. Would you be happy just being a deacon?
To many gays in the priesthood, seminaries are loaded with them. I know personally of two boys in Winona, Minn who were rejected from entering the seminary there because they were asked by the rector if they apposed gays in the priesthood and they said yes.
@pboisei You have clearly never tried to get a church raffle organized - the image of "one of the most powerful institutions in the world" is pretty rapidly punctured if you try ;-) I'm not exactly sure what you're get at in your comment. Maybe my statement that "Christianity and popularity rarely go hand-in-hand"? This doesn't mean that Christian numbers will always be small (although, I will say that many people tick "Catholic" on census forms who haven't darkened a church doorway in years).
@wordonfirevideo What is rational fully depends on the premises you base your logic and belief system on. "Atheism is a supremely irrational position" will not help the Faith-Reason dialogue if you continue to put down secularists. But, I respect your opinion and your sound beliefs to help change the perception of your Church away from the pedophilia and sexual abuses reports among other things
@zztstenglish The early church was accused of incest ( "loving of their brothers and sisters") and cannibalism ("eating the Body of Christ"). Some things don't change.
Hi Bishop Barron , just wondering for some advice on my own discernment to the priesthood. I want to be a priest and enjoy learning and practicing Catholic but I tend to shy away from public speaking and would tend to get nervous in front of large crowds. Is public speaking skills taught in seminary? Thanks , Mark Ireland
Hi Mark, I'm also discerning a vocation in the priesthood. However, I'm not looking into becoming a diocesan priest, but instead a Dominican Priest. I'd like to remind you that you can look into joining a religious order and becoming a priest; you don't have to be a priest bound to the diocese. Some, like the Dominicans, rely more on preaching, while the Franciscans speak more by their actions with the poor Just something to think about. Good luck!
Hi Billy , Glad to here that you are also discerning! Those are really good points that you have made and thanks for the reply. I have been to different retreats by Franciscans and other orders. I am really just at a crossroads with this decision and need to pray and get a feel for both directions. Thanks again and best of luck with your journey in serving God ! God bless you , Mark, Ireland
You're in luck, a bunch of positions in the childcare department of the Church just opened up. Or you could join a motorcycle gang, they have cleaner criminal records and still proudly wear their uniforms in public. I'd be interested to know what you decided.
Pulitzer Prize winning author has written a book entitled "Why Priests - a Failed Tradition". Wills spent five years as a Jesuit seminary and nearly became a priest.
@zztstenglish The sex scandals certainly hurt the credibility of the Church when she speaks on moral issues, but I don't see how stopping the prayer outside of abortion clinics or work within the UN would make any difference. St. Francis of Assisi lived in a time when the Church was infinitely worse than it is today, yet he managed to thoroughly reform it through obedience and personal holiness. The solution to our problem is in having more living Saints living lives of courageous sanctity.
Is Satan in the house of God or is the Church the house of Satan? Does Satan still appear as an "Angel of Light"? Isn't hypocrisy, saying one thing and doing another, the main thing Jesus railed against? Isn't that why he split from the Pharisees? Why does the good 'Father' keep taking their thirty pieces of silver? Listen to him. it's a good life, it beats working. (Should anyone really be calling anyone "Father'? You tell me seminary students.)
Father with all this years , and all the study you made while you are priest , did you come to a point of faith crisis !? and if your answer is yes , how can you overcome it with this anti-religion society
@zztstenglish erm...what's your point? Here's my point. The Church has always been attacked. Always has. Always will. This is for two reasons: when it proclaims Christ, the world hates it. When it falls short of the sanctity to which it is called, the world rightly calls it hypocritical. We follow a man who said "Turn the other cheek". This stuff is to be expected. And we live in an age when we are unlikely to have to shed our blood for Christ - we have it easy compared to the Early Church.
@wordonfirevideo "a radically contingent universe requires, finally, a non-contingent ground" Or new discoveries in space-time and quantum mechanics might reveal that uncaused actions are quite common. But I'd say it's your bias to see intention behind a potential first cause that is irrational. So far we've only observed intention in sentient beings, physically produced by their neurons. These debates can sometimes be exhausting. I wish you many more happy years.
@filthyswit It's precisely because I'm rational that I'm not an atheist! Atheism is a supremely irrational position. I do appreciate your congratulations: can I talk you out of even one more minute of atheism?!
@zztstenglish Only one of the 12 apostles died of natural causes. Christianity and popularity rarely go hand-in-hand... "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first..." - The Author and Perfecter of our Faith...
dumpmist And if God is being itself, then he would have no need of creation. So the only reason to create creation would be out of love- he can literally have no ulterior motive, needing nothing. Thus we can conclude that a loving God exists.
dumpmist And a loving God, seeing that humanity was not being loving, out of his love for us would wish to save us- and he does this through the beautiful means of Christ's passion and resurrection.

Bishop Barron I've been thinking about the priesthood and how should I pray about it?
Ask God directly what he wants you to do. And then read the book To Save A Thousand Souls.
