In indonesia for liwetan we use 'nasi liwet' instead of yellow rice 😊😊
Liwetan came from Sundanese culture (West Java), we usually eat liwetan for gathering with family/friends, party etc. We usually put nasi liwet (liwet rice)/regular white rice, sambal, lalap (vegetable like cucumber, lettuce, basil etc), ayam goreng/bakar (Indonesian style fried chicken/grilled chicken), tahu & tempe goreng (fried tofu&tempe), ikan goreng (fried fish), etc (the choice are limitless; you can add everything on your liwet. Seafood, beef, veggies).
The liwet on your vid has a modern twist and more cultural mix in it (with babi guling and street corn from Bali, Sambal Dabu-Dabu from Sulawesi). But still looking good!

The thing is, that liwetan menu represents mainly
java dishes, quite frankly not all java dishes. The babi guling and sambal matah are balinese. The telor balado is padang.
The Lamb curry isnt thai influenced per se. Sumatran cuisine also uses alot of coconut milk based curry. Basically the whole sumatra, malaysia, singapore and part of Thailand use alot of coconut milk.

The second batch of food is mostly fusion food i believe. So when he said it has thai influence i think he refers to that particular dish they serve in the restaurant, not the traditional indonesian lamb curry which otherwise would probably called gule
@@jessboo173 we have what we call gule kambing. The arabs(indian) were a major influence back in the days. I doubt the thai had more influence over the arabs when it comes to lamb curry or again what we called gule kambing.
@@carlosliwang2518 again, it was *fusion* food so we're not talking about influence. Fusion means you mix two things. So if it's called indo-thai fusion food it means it's a mix of indonesian food and thai food, it doesn't mean indonesian food has thai influence whatsoever. And again, they're particularly talking about the food in the restaurant, not indonesian food in general
@@jessboo173 i know what fusion means/is. And the second part of their dining experience isnt per se a fusion. But more a modern twist of the dishes. That guy says its thai influenced curry. And im saying its not. Cus in indonesia we also have a lot of curry dishes(usually western part of indonesia, the more east you get the less coconut milk they use in their food). But because indonesian cuisine is still underrated/under the radar. As the thai is quite the opposite, people tend to say its thai influenced. 1. Thats how things work in general. Something that is popular, we tend to think is the original. 2. Because thai is well known, people will relate to it better. Or itll give people some kind of a reference/comparison material how the dish probably tastes like.
@@carlosliwang2518 how come you say it's not? Are you the chef? I believe the guy in batik said "the head chef, he's got a lot of thai influence so the curry is very thai" meaning the head chef intentionally put thai influence into an indonesian dish he served at the restaurant

Liwetan just one of millions Indonesian amazing foods, because Indonesia have a lot of island , a lot of culture, like Bali, Lombok, Padang, Java, Sunda, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and every Island have a different caracther in their food, and Indonesia is a peace of heaven that god put on earth , the nature, cultures, languages, floras and faunas is unique and incredible

Yess, liwetan is one of the most authentic indonesian cuisine from west java indonesia ( sunda culture ), but it is just a part of the whole indonesian cuisine, indonesia is very rich of local food you should try, u must try manadonesse cuisine (chicken with rica rica sauce, sambal roa fish) aceh cuisine (mie aceh) palembang cuisine (pempek), makasar cuisine ( grilled konro) etc, trust me, they are delicious and can attract your haert and tastebud

Pork is not custom in Indonesian food menu ...we usually use chicken fish or beef, only found at region special in Bali or northern sumatra, their menu from Karo Highland "BPK" Babi Panggang Karo

Never tried the Indo restaurant in LA, but the best I've tried in the US is actually in Atlanta. And there's a shop right next to it where you can get groceries from Indonesia including the ingredients/spices
