You mentioned you were living in Montreal prior to Lisbon, so I presume you applied through the consulate in Montreal. I have heard each consulate has slightly different requirements. What did the Portuguese consulate in Montreal request? And do you know if they accept savings/investments alone or do you need proof of a recurring passive income? Do you feel they are more lenient or more strict than other consulates? Thanks!

She has the Canadian green card and she is holding China passport. She is not allowed remotely to open an bank account or remotely adding her name to the Portugal bank account of mine. Both of us have not visited Portugal yet. I will be the main applicant and the financial source for her. We both need to file D7 applications separately. We plan to get married in LA this August. In the video you mentioned that you were not allowed remotely open a Portugal bank account, and you also mentioned that a Joint account with your husband when applying for D7 visa. My questions for you : Was your name listed on your husband's Portugal bank account while applying for D7? If yes, how did you add your name onto your husband's bank account ? Could my wife apply for D7 with the Portugal bank account of mine (without her name on the account) by showing that the marriage certification and a letter from me indicating that I will be her financial sponsor ?

It is nearly impossible to move to Portugal at this time since visas are not being processed. There is a tremendous backlog and there have been demonstrations in major cities in Portugal to increase restrictions on foreigners moving to Portugal. The golden visa has already been discontinued in major areas. Also the NHR tax is being discontinued for new foreigners coming in as of 2024 and the taxation here is very high. Rents are very high in populated areas and will consume at least 50% of your budget. You haven’t visited Portugal yet??
