FOUR Versions of the Casio AE-1500WH Including Both Longer-Strap AE-1500WHX Watches

  • I've made other videos in the past few months about the Casio AE-1500WH but, this time, I've acquired two long-strap versions of the watch to show you. The longer straps aren't remarkably longer when you view them side-by-side with the normal straps. But I can certainly see where they would be useful to guys with larger wrists and/or people who may want to wear them on the outside of their shirts or jackets.
    The Casio AE1500 is a great value at only about $20 - $25 right now, depending on where you shop. (The list price from Casio tops out at $30.) It has a large LCD screen with the largest digits of any Casio watch I own. It would make a great watch for someone who has special needs with regard to vision. In addition to its normal timekeeping it has five alarms (one of which is a "Snooze" alarm), an hourly chime, a 24-hour countdown timer with an auto-repeat option, a 24-hour stopwatch and a Dual Time mode. The watch can be set to a 12-hour or 24-hour display for all modes. It is water resistant to 100 meters and it can run for up to 10 years on a common CR2032 lithium battery. Detailed instructions are available for download from Casio's website. Just look for module 3502.

    I have one of these, bought it on a whim, and it's turned out to be one of the most inherently accurately watches I've ever owned. Roughly +1.5 seconds every two months. Insanely good performance in such a bargain piece.

      I also have an ae1500 and was very pleasantly surprised by it's accuracy with it being roughly +0.3 seconds every two months in my case.

    I own the khaki one (first on the left in your video). Absolutely the best beater watch one can buy today. I swim in it, no problem. Finally for Casio the time display digits are large enough to see comfortably at a glance, and there is none of the usual G-Shock silliness on the display, it's all business here. BTW, my wrist is 7.25", regular strap is plenty long and very comfortable, feels almost like a pre-molded synthetic bracelet (I dislike thin, wiggly straps). I wear it loose, and I still have 5 extra holes on the strap to let out. The only way I would see the point in the longer strap is if someone wanted to wear it over a warm jacket (like for hiking high up).
    Thanks for featuring them. Casio needs to keep making them for ever.

    Great review every single thing I wanted to know about this Casio . Just purchased the tan color case and band .love the legibility so easy to read . Also for being a larger case it's comfortable and the band is easy on the wrist. This Casio is a Winner in my book and will use it for construction work where I don't care what it bangs against.

    Really great review of a hidden gem, Thank you! . You showed a couple of features that I had no idea it had.
    This is one of my favorite no nonsense watches, it's the model I either recommend or give to older friends and relatives. The display is probably the best in terms of display visibility for people with poorer eye sight; the back light is very good for the price. The five alarms are simple to set and its easy see if they are active or not. If the user needs to set times for regular events such as pill taking. it's also robust enough unless someone is in G-shock territory. All this for $20! if you shop around. For someone who doesn't need all the world time gizmos I rate it better than the AE-1200.

    I bought like this watch because of this video. I was looking for a watch with big letters, and not a smart watch. I’m am mostly happy with my purchase. The alarm isn’t very useful in loud environments or even normal environments. I tend not to it beep so I am constantly looking at my watch. If Casio made this exact version but with vibration, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
    Also I agree that the light turns off a bit too short when you press it.

    I've had the dark grey version with negative display, AE-1500WH-8BVEF, for 2 years. I think the negative display works very well given that the digits are so large. A nice side effect of the negative display is that the hot spots from the LED amber backlight are less visible. I use this watch daily around the home, for alarms and for timing things. I wish Casio would release this model with a mineral crystal and replace the plastic "screws" on the front with black metal screws to raise the premium feel. I would gladly pay extra for these features. A really nice watch for the price nonetheless.

      Wow. I have had an MRW-200 and that was gaining about 1 second every two months. My 40 year old G - shock (DW-5200 (Hero))is nowhere near as accurate but is still within Casio specs though. An amazingly well built watch.

  • @damyr
    @damyr Před rokem +1

    Here's a constructive feedback for you, Greg... You did measure the weight and you visually compared it to a square G-shock, but you could measure its thickness and diameter, lug to lug length, strap width. I mean, that's a basic thing to do when reviewing watches. Also, you could say more about the strap and how it feels... is it softer or more harder rubber/plastic, how hard is to change it, and could the watch even accept a 3rd party strap...?

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  Před rokem +1

      I know that lots of guys get out the calipers and make all of those measurements. I never do that. I don’t have calipers.

    • @gnoink
      @gnoink Před rokem +1

      I think that the lug-to-lug measurements make less sense for Casio's more rugged digital watches, which are typically much larger than normal watches. The resin straps are often shaped in a way to hug the wrist. My wrist measures 18.5 cm (~7.3 inches) and the watch fits me well. I never disassembled the strap, but the lug-to-lug distance looks like 47.5-48 mm. Thickness of case is 15 mm, 13 mm from base to crystal not counting the protective shroud on top. Diameter varies between 45-50 mm depending on where you measure. Strap width at the base is 27 mm which narrows down to 21 mm. The strap is not particularly soft in my opinion. The stiffness of the resin strap feels the same as on my basic G-Shock Square, DW-5600BB-1.
