He's the perfect Disney prince personified. He's super kind, caring, talented, intelligent, responsible, AND he was born with a silver spoon and looks like the last prince of the Joseon Dynasty at that. He's EXOLs' MR. MCDREAMY.
We used to say Suho was the only extrovert in EXO. Whenever the group was asked a question, you'd just see the ripple effect of each member's head turning to Suho; microphones were also always passed to him. A member could be asked specifically a question, and that member would turn to Suho. During acceptance speeches, the mic would first go to Suho, but then you'd see him pushing each member he could up to the mic, sometimes having to really push them^.^
It's gotten better. Like, even Baekhyun who considers himself an introvert, took it upon himself to help the members of SuperM to connect to the point that SuperM picked him as the leader. And even then, Baekhyun said that once when he was struggling with it Suho just seemed to know he needed encouragement and assurance that while it was hard at the moment that it would all be worth it.
As much as Baekhyun will tease Suho, he will *always* make sure Suho's leadership gets the flowers it deserves. Suho began EXO's family meetings and if there was any disagreement between members in the beginning, Baekhyun said they'd tell Suho, who'd act as the mediator/middle-man.
Chen will also jokingly drag Suho, like about his jokes, but he never lets anyone he doesn't think has the right to do it. There was once a comedian who remarked about how unfunny Suho is, but Chen swiftly shut him down by saying that Suho didn't think the comedian was that funny either. (The comedian also later took it back when Suho finally appeared on the show and was a hit among the hosts^.^)
[I like to also think of Chen as Suho's right hand man. He's almost always right next to Suho whenever he has to talk or give an acceptance speech, usually with a hand resting on his shoulder or back.]
I think to the same comedian/on the same show Chanyeol defended Suho's lower popularity among fans at the time. He pointed out that the rest of the group had the important time to interact and bond with fans early in their career, while Suho was often called away to deal with staff at music shows or making arrangements for the members' food or etc.
I wouldn't recommend watching the concept guides now. Just react to their mvs, you can probably watch it after you complete all the mvs, trust me, it will make sense later. Just enjoy their music, there is lot to catch up on, have fun !!
I definitely agree. The concept guides are not for me because I don't care that much about the concept lmao but I understand why some fans are interested in the theories but at the end of the day, they are just mostly fan theories for fun. I think if they just enjoy the mvs and performances, the rest will be easier to dive into whenever they want, it'll be there
Totally agreed, forget about the concept guide, just enjoy the music and their performance. As a long time EXO-L, I can't fully understand the concept either but I enjoy every album and song and performances. EXO as a group of more than 10 years, you have tons of content to watch and react...from group to sub units to solo work, every thing are amazing 👍🏼
Thank you for reacting to EXO individual guides and no you do not have to worry about the storyline it's a long story most of us who's been here for a long time understand but it's going to be a headache for newcomers. EXO are still with SM and so are Suho, Chanyeol, Kai, and Sehun. Baek will be handling his solo work under his company INB100 and so will Chen and Xiumin. Kyungsoo started his own company to handle his solo work called CompanySooSoo. They all still have to deal with SM as long as they are with EXO unfortunately lol Oh and EXO-CBX will be handled by INB100 too 😃
EXO and EXO-CBX have comebacks this year as well as many members are coming out with solos. It's so exciting!

The part where you saw Suho in the red dress was a special stage that he and several SM artists, all from different groups, did for an SMTown concert in 2014, where they did a parody of the song and choreography for "Something" by the girl group Girl's Day. Not only was Suho involved, but Minho from SHINee, Kyuhyun from Super Junior and Changmin (Max) from TVXQ also dressed up as girls as part of that performance, czcams.com/video/ZOL4YgB-6SI/video.html. (They are all part of an idol friend group called the Kyu line.) You will see male idols dressed like women all the time in Kpop performances. The majority of male idols have dressed like a woman at least once in their career. It's just a standard part of Kpop culture. Crossdressing is something they commonly do to be funny or to show off just how pretty a male idol really is, etc.
One of the main reasons why Suho was a trainee for 7 years was because he originally started out training to be a member of SM's legendary second-generation group, SHINee. However, right before SHINee was to debut in 2008, Suho injured his knee and he couldn't train for their debut showcase, so SM decided to debut SHINee without him. He ended up having to wait 4 more years before he debuted as the leader of EXO. But, by all accounts, this worked out for the best because he became the leader, and as the other EXO members say, he was born to be a leader. If he had stayed a member of SHINee he never would have become a leader, because Onew -- who is the leader of SHINee -- is 2 years older than Suho, and at the time of SHINee's debut it was pretty much a given that the oldest member would automatically be the leader. However, 4 years later when EXO debuted, the rules within the industry had kind of changed and it was no longer a hard and fast rule that the oldest would be the leader. Case in point, Xiumin is the oldest EXO member and, yet, Suho became the leader.
Being a trainee for 7 years isn't that uncommon. If you start to really look into it, you will find a lot of Idols who have trained for a very long time before they debuted. However, it all depends on how talented someone is or how much experience they have had before becoming a trainee as to how long they train. Some idols only train for a few weeks or a few months, whereas others could take years and they may be on the verge of giving up when the company finally decides they are ready to debut. And some trainees may never debut and end up leaving the company or industry. Unfortunately, just because you are a trainee doesn't guarantee you will debut. A lot of it is pure talent and luck combined with sheer dedication.
If you weren't so distracted by that brief clip of Suho in the K-drama, and you had read the next screen after that, it lists the musicals that Suho has been in. The last musical on the list is "The Man Who Laughs," which is the clip that they show following the list of his musicals. In the musical he is portraying a man who is slightly crazy, which is the character that "The Joker" from Batman is based off from. If you think he looked crazy in that clip, that's because he was, he got many accolades for his character in this play.
I don't think anyone "hates" SM. SM has made them what they are today, so they respect SM for at least that. But I think several of the members are tired of being controlled by SM and told what they can and can't do. With EXO's concept and storyline the members have been restricted from participating in a lot of things and doing the type of music and activities they want to do because they needed to maintain EXO's mysterious concept and their content had to fit in with EXO's storyline, etc. Therefore, now that their contracts have expired, this has allowed the members a chance to decide for themself what they want to do. Leaving SM will allow some of them to be able to branch out and to find their own paths, allowing them to be more independent and to find what they want to do with the next chapter of their careers. The tension we have all felt is more about the fact that SM doesn't want to lose one of their biggest money-makers and the EXO members don't want to stop being a part of EXO, they just want more freedom to make their own choices and to control their own finances, etc.
I mean it's actually very rare to see a Kpop group last more than 7 years and to still be with their same company. In the Kpop industry it's actually known as the 7 year curse. Most first contracts are up after 7 years, which in the past often meant the group would either sign a new contract with the company -- with the new contract usually good for about 3 years -- or the group would disband because the members either wanted to try something new or the company no longer thought the group was profitable enough to keep them around, etc. Groups like EXO, who are still mega popular at the time of their contract expiration date have a few more choices, but they were still much more limited than they are today. It used to be that if the members didn't want the group to disband they had to stay with the company and agree to the company's terms.
However, in the last few years, the industry as started to loosen up a little and redefine how things function when a member of a veteran group wants to explore their own path. Now companies are starting to see the value in working with their artists to not hold them to exclusive contracts and allow them to be more independent without loosing the popularity and earning potential of the group. Several Kpop groups such as GOT7 or Infinite, for example, have bought the rights to their group's name and songs and have established their own companies where they can still release music as a group while the members maintain independant solo careers. And in some cases, such as with 2PM, when one of the members decided to leave JYP Entertainment and sign with a new company, he was able to work out a deal with JYP that allows him to still do activities as a member of 2PM, while his solo activates are under his new company. Which is what I hope will be similar to the deal that the EXO members have worked out with SM. The members who have left SM are now free to do what they want as independent artists, but they can still continue activities as a member of EXO. After all, I think this is the best of both worlds for both SM and the EXO members -- neither has to shoulder all the risk and they both can benefit from the popularity, money-making potential and name recognition of the EXO name, etc.
That one clip you guys were asking about is from when Suho played the main lead in a stage musical called "The Man Who Laughs". It would actually be really fun to see you guys react to the musical number shown in this guide! He does such a fantastic job. The musical where he had a big smile makeup like the joker is called The Man Who Laughs, he has been in the musical for two seasons (aka 2 different years). His performance is STELLAR. There are official recordings of it online because musical actors perform snippets of it during a press conference. You could check out the one from 2020!
He also had performed the most musicals out of everyone in EXO. The latest musical he had joined is Mozart! which is ALSO AMAZING! There's a live performance of him covering Wie Wird Man Seinen Schatten Los? which perfectly showcased his abilities as well!

I love Suho. He was the very first Kpop idol that drew me into Kpop and EXO. Still is my favorite in every thing he does as well as I also follow Kai. The were the very first 2 members of EXO.
The musical they show of Suho is "the man who laugh" is based on the book with the same title by Victor Hugo. His character is what inspired the creation of the joker.
Of course the way you go about your EXO journey is up to you because there is almost 12 yrs of content to catch up with but I followed one person's EXO journey a few years ago and she impressed me with how she decided to do it. She watched the mvs while also doing album reactions. And in all of that, watching EXO performances and compilations to get a feel of their personalities. Would you be interested in album reactions or maybe that's not something you're interested in doing?

The amount of strength mentally, physically, emotionally to do Suho’s job as a leader of a billion dollar group that has gone through so much publicly and behind the scenes (we will never truly know just how much shit they had to put up with) is just remarkable. And to do it all with such grace and class is amazing.
Seeing these old clips again makes me so proud of how far they have come not just as artists, but as persons. I only became EXO-L during pandemic with hardly any updates and zero group contents and Suho was in the military… 😭 but it was okay because there is so much old EXO content to watch just like you guys are doing now… imagine my excitement when he was finally discharged and it was my first time experiencing real time live video of Suho… I was totally freaked out and amazed when he started speaking English fluently hahaha. And the way he communicates with fans via bubble or instagram is just so precious. I really feel like he knows our hearts well.
You mentioned that you dont often hear his power in his vocals, i thought that as well when i was just a beginner exo-L. but I think because you are not that familiar yet with each of their vocal tones you may not realize while listening to songs or watching MVs that it’s Suho singing certain parts. To me his vocals really stand out more in their later works, he has just improved with time. His parts in Exist and Obsession albums just wooow. If you ever do Album listens with lyric videos you will really appreciate his vocal prowess then.
I tried watching How Are You Bread but couldnt get past the 1st episode too corny and cringey hahaha. But if you do want to see a Suho drama, Behind Your Touch is a really good show. Excellent plot and great cast of characters. Keeps you guessing until the very end. But Kerry was also asking about Exo Next Door… hahaha yesss that is a must view for any exo-L. It’s so silly and stupid and hilarious and I dont think the members are proud of that work but I love it. I watch it whenever i feel sad and it instantly makes me LOL. Theyre all in it but it’s Sehun’s bromance that steals the show 😉
More about Suho's musicals:
- School OZ was a hologram musical featuring SM artists with a mix of covers of SM songs and original songs. Suho's character Hans was like a prince(I think?) and Xiumin's character Aquila was kinda like his bodyguard. There's an MV for the song One Day One Chance that would give you a look at the musical, and because it stars SM artists, you'll see more familiar faces^.^
- With The Last Kiss and The Man Who Laughs he kinda accidentally got the lead role in two of the biggest upcoming musicals in South Korea. Suho auditioned for both, hoping he'd maybe land one, and he ended up getting offered both. And while I think they did double casting for both (they cast multiple actors to play the same role; they'd switch off who performed every show), he still had to go straight from finishing The Last Kiss into preparing for The Man Who Laughs right after, while also doing EXO promotions and tours.

Junmyeon was a trainee while SHINee was being formed, and a lot of people thought he would debut with them. The two most popular stories are his parents and a very bad knee injury kept him from that. But Junmyeon remained very close with SHINee members, especially Jonghyun. So, when he passed, we worried about Junmyeon. Junmyeon's solo stage during EXO's tour at the time was also to Playboy, which was a song Jonghyun wrote. Junmyeon said he loved the song the moment he heard it & originally wanted it for a solo, but it became an EXO song. When Jonghyun passed, we wondered if Junmyeon would change his solo stage. He skipped it the first concert back, but after that he went back to doing it. The best way he could honor Jonghyun was making sure his art was seen and heard~~~ He was also in The Last Kiss at the time, and that has a moment that hit a little close to home. But I think Junmyeon only missed one show, if at all~]

10:10 A little tid-bit about this OST~ This was one of the *many* Korean/Chinese co-productions that got caught up in the "Hallyu Ban" in China, which resulted in it being shelved for YEARS after it was completed. When they finally got the go ahead to release it, Suho requested to re-record the OST, cause his singing had improved & he didn't want to give it to fans when he knew he could do better now.

I’ve been a mega-fan of EXO since they pre-debuted and I believe you can give the Part 2 of their concept a pass.
To be honest, they’re my favourite K-pop group till today & I still find some missing pieces in their story line.

You should just watch the concept guides on your own time when you get to know them more.
However, this has been recommended after watching the individual guides, to watch the Ultimate Guide to EXO by Pastel Kookies. It has extra information than provided on these about the group as a whole.

37:22 surely do it, even for the concept guides you need to know all the songs 😂 might I recommend something personally, I'd say react to their content in chronological order. It doesn't take away anything musically but would make sense for lots of things in their storyline. Like some reactors get confused why there's wolves in Lotto, when in fact wolves were introduced in Wolf mv long ago.

Tbh most Exo-L's don't care about reactors getting into the lore as much as fans themselves are as long as reaction channels are enjoying the music. Its upto you both if you want to watch concept guides or not. I personally like many Exo-Ls would recommend to check "the ultimate guide to Exo" by pastel kookie. I would say you should do the MVs first and then do the theory guides because it might make slightly more sense if you already know what you're looking at.
The person who did these guides messed the positions up quite a bit. I guess they made Sehun Main Rapper and Main Dancer because he is their bias lol but no idea why they messed around with the rest of the members too. For example, Suho is the only Lead Vocalist in the group, Xiumin and Chanyeol are also both Vocalist, and Sehun doesn't have a Vocalist position. Now, since these positions are based on skills, at this point i would understand updating Sehun to Vocalist and Xiumin to Lead Vocalist, but then Suho would have to be Main Vocalist too. When we talk about Vocal Line or Main Vocal Line, Suho is often included anyway.

They did lyric video for “That’s okay”but didn’t post it separately. For some members they checked out dance practices. So basically the same song two times too. I’m sure they will react to more of his solo works in the future.
I would definitely skip the concept guides. I watched them and the creator had to update or correct some information she posted in the previous episode. Enjoy the music and the rest will follow.
