First Drive: The new 2018 Audi S4 and S5

- Instead of sampling one new Audi, let's try out two! That's what we did when we trekked to Palm Springs to take in both the 2018 Audi S4 and the 2018 Audi S5.
Both are powered by a 354-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, and both are a nice improvement over the car they're replacing. There's more noise, more refinement, and an overall greater driving experience.

ugh I know the new S5 is probably way better handling and all, but imo you can't beat the looks of the last gen S5. Great video though!
Didn't like the S5 design at first but after seeing it in person it's really grown on me and it actually looks really good.

fantastic review as always Jeff. Your art example I agree with 100% I heard an Audi designer say the Q2 was inspired by an athlete. I was lost.
The best American review of these cars I've seen and one of the only ones that doesn't slam it for being "too Audi" and not engaging. I've drove the S4 and have one on order, it is plenty engaging.
Mr Snuffleupagus thanks! Definitely take one on a test drive. I only got to drive one on city roads but it rode excellent and there was no hurting for power. I was extremely happy with it. We did a launch from the launch control and it throws you back in the seat and your at 60 before you know it.
I quote "..crap that engineers get excited about..." and then you go on to say how it makes it better! I'm an automotive engineer for a major car manufacturer - I spend hours of my life on these bits! At least you mentioned them though unlike most reviewers who just talk about scratchy plastic bits...... Nice review.
+Deputy DD haha fair point. I mostly mean the in depth deeper dive of minute bits. It can be fascinating or dull, but maybe it's just more about the storyteller.
Is this still a decent car without the S Sports Package? I live in FL. Great video!

Wait until you drive one. Actual HP ranges between 380 & 400 on Dyno according to others tested by owners. In Person the car is fantastic. I'm not knocking the older Generation Audi S5 but each and every year they make Progress not Digress. Get it?

I agree, it's the best looking S4 ever made, it had a certain subdued elegance to it. I recently sold mine.. I miss looking at it.
b5 s4 made me like them a little outdated now for style but still like them b8 is better than b9 because b8 still gets a manual
You need to turn down the volume of your music!
Music is a very subjective thing, and people subscribe to car channels to listen to honest reviews and the sound of the cars, NOT your favorite tunes!
Trying to hear the engine/exhaust and can't for that stupid music. On to the next review.

Great review, Jeff. IMHO, I don't think it's more handsome than the very first s5. It's getting uglier and looking more like a sedan instead of a sport car. I hope audi could surprise us in the next generation.
I test drove the S4 twice, can not get over the light and numb steering, do you feel that?
+The Wisdom of the FlashGordon these had Sport rear diffs and we pushed them hard (more so with cameras not rolling) and even though the steering was light, the actual grip levels were great so it sort of balanced out
The Hooniverse Is this still a killer car without the S Sports Package?
I have a B9 S4 with no sports diff. I can't tell the difference during on road performance. I got it because everyone wants the sports pack and this one was on 🔥sale. I haven't and probably won't push it past 7/10 on the road. I have a suspicion that the handling can be greatly improved by better tires than the crap OEM.

Coppinques not gonna get one off a lot for that price. If you got one with literally 0 options you’d still be over that price once taxes and destination fees

Yeah definitely has some new generation mustang lines in it especially the hood. Shows more on the S4 photo for the preview on the video.
