    Before my first rehearsal I thought: why so many people hyping a song of Bashar Murad? Now I'm sure, it was not because of his name or nationality. His song is really different, and I think it's the best choice for Iceland in this year's Eurovision. The rest of the songs in this list are so similar, and I don't know which can be different and what is so special about them. 🤔

      The song is so "smooth", "flowy", I'd style it with stuff that matches that. Their clothes are very stiff and that somehow doesn't match the song for me. Sweeping fabrics, and maybe he could walk towards winds. Light effects + dusty. Thoughts?

    I prefer all the songs in Icelandic tbh, since it covers up more generic English lyrics and Icelandic just sounds cool. Tbh most of them sounded very similar to each other due to the edm hence why Wild West stood out to me even before I knew whole discussion behind it. I also enjoyed Væb since it had the catchiest tune and the most fun vibe out of the dance bops. Plus they really are Iceland's answer to Jedward lol. Those would be my strategic picks in a tough semi since everything is a definite NQ imo.
    Outside of the competition pov, I really enjoy Heidrun and Blankiflur's songs to just chillout to.

    Oh I am definetly team Bashar and I know that a lot of icelanders will wote for him, especially since Israel is still allowed to participate in Eurovision this year and around half of the icelanders want to withdraw because of it. But many of those people are actually kinda ok to send him to eurovison as a statement and a lot of people here like his song. So I think he will at least go to the superfinal but here's the thing. Those who don't want an foreighner competing for Iceland and don't want to "ruin" eurovision with politics will all wote for whoever is in the superfinal with him, even if they don't even like that song. We saw that happen in 2022 when Systur won. Older icelanders hated Reykjavíkurdætur and everybody who didn't like them woted for Systur even if they didn't care much for their song.
    So I just don't know what will happen tonight.. hoping for Bashar though. It is our only chance to get to the final in may. You are great Tom. ❤ from 🇮🇸

    Hera Bjork's song makes me think of commercials for some reason. Like it's either reminding me of a song (or songs??) used in commercials, or it sounds like it would work well in commercials. Idk why. 😂
    P.S. the Icelandic letter that looks kinda like a P is 'Thorn' (þ) and sounds like the TH in that and the (and is the reason 'ye old' is incorrect - printing presses just used the Y to replace the Thorn back when English still used it as a letter!). The one that kinda looks like a D is eth (ð) and sounds like the th in they, so it has a bit more of a 'buzz' to it.

    The app is super not reliable for this. A lot of people who don't even watch Songvakkepnin are putting Bashar last just as a statement of hatred for him being included, same with people downvoting the song on rankings. What's more interesting is polls, where you don't vote against anything, you just vote FOR your favorite, which is more in line with how Eurovision actually works. Bashar does a lot better there, he actually took over first place in the EurovisionWorld poll after his performance because it was so well-done, so visually cool. Huge standout after a bunch of "glitterpop."

    Im using my phone to tyoe out my comment, and then my finger slipped and i lost everything! Fuming!!!
    So to start all over again...
    The Icelandic songs all sound fresh, light and clean this year, and im loving the upbeat overload! Lol.
    My pick of the lot was Blankiflur. I love that song. Its so pretty, so im sad it didnt qualify.
    Love that you loved "Je Ne Sais Quois"! I too loved it back in 2010. In fact it was my favourite that year.
    This years song isnt a patch on that, but its a great song itsself, even if it sounds familiar. I can hear Kerrie-Ann's "Sweet Lies", James Newmans "Embers", and anything by Sigala! In particular "Give Me Your Love", (which features none other than James Newmans brother, John!). It also reminds me of the one he did with Ella Eyre. I think its "Came Here For Love".
    I didnt like Bashars song when i first heard it, because i immediately compared it to his other material, in particular the one he did with Hatari, but after listening to it a few times, ive grown to really like it. I think itll sound even better in Icelandic so im looking forward to hearing that.
    I do hate that hes getting a lot of hate though for being Palestinian as people are assuming hes getting a free pass.
    I know the Israeli's were exceptionallu riled by Hatari's bold 'pro-Palestine' statement at Eurovision in 2019, so having a Palestinian competing via Iceland, the very country that Hatari represented, and a country that has spoken out against Israel is causing their fans to go in to meltdown.
    As far as i can see, Bashar's song has no propaganda, no bias in its lyrics and no shadyness towards Israel, so im not seeing a problem at all here. It seems people are mad that a Palestinian is being given a platform and from that Platform could potentially win. Sad.

      @ESCTom  Před 3 měsíci +1

      omg i hate when youre writing a comment and it gets deleted, so frustrating.
      Yeah I think some people are exaggerating the boost that Bashar is getting just from being Palestinian. Objectively, I just think that his song is easily the best package to send to Eurovision. I did actually like a few other ones could be good too, but they didn't even qualify for the final. Haven't seen in the live performances yet though so I don't know how these have translated onto the stage.
      Thank you for hearing the Kerri-Ann and James Newman references 😂

    @bastbats1952 Před 3 měsíci +3

    IMO what Iceland does best is create a cohesive full package, from industrial metal monster rock to geeky 8bit uncoolness made cool again to hippy sisters of the rising sun in the 70s. What they aren't as good at are the simple 'one singer and a microphone' with a solid ballad or pop song entries. So the Wild West song is probably the best choice for them to create that full package around it, but if they end up picking a girly bop they need to really work on the visuals to make it part of its own specific universe or it will flounder against the competition (what happened last year despite a good song and artist). Of those I'd pick Sigga because you can easily turn her into a glittery pop princess to target famillies with small-ish children (think, Austria 2016!) Almost nobody is targetting that demographic this year.

    Lol nobody would care about Bashar song if he wasn’t Palestinian (+ gay). Such a bad song and even worse live singing.

      While I think it's an Islandic / Nordic sound, I just don't like the slick sound of most of these entries. This... Electronic feeling, with the beats. I'm also into dark undertones and country inspired music. So his song is my favourite by far, and it stands out against the rest because of the genre. Somebody here in the comments said his song would be easiest to spin into a story on stage, which I agree with. The only other song I like and wouldn't mind seeing win is Stingum Af cause it's a bop. But to be honest, all of these songs are questionable qualifiers imo 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@emdove well Iceland is top 3 in betting odds thx to this song which is by far worse than almost all other chosen national songs. Goes to show how much of a joke and freak show this competition really is.

      @@Mislav88 Dude, it's betting odds. They don't accurately predict what will actually happen. I don't want him to win the contest, and I'm pretty sure he won't. He might get a top 15 placement, but I don't think that's such a disruption that it destroys the contest.
      I just told you why I like his song best, cause you said nobody would care about it without his background, and your reply is "but look at the betting odds!". I care about the song. That's the point I was trying to make 😂
      But somebody who uses the word freak show probably doesn't care all that much about nuance...

      @@emdove actually bettings odds are fascinatingly close to the actual results for vast majority of songs. Check out the history from previous years. The fact that someone would even take his song seriously, let alone put it in top 3, tells you all you need to know about this competition.

      @@Mislav88 conclusion - just don't watch it? Seems like you're pretty anti, not just slightly annoyed. I'm surprised you're here, to be honest.
