- Welcome to Stephen F Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas. Just outside of Houston, Texas you’ll find this hidden gem of a state park that’s close enough to the city if you need anything, but far enough away that you’ll be able to feel like you’re out in nature. Driving in, you’ll pass many historical markers, farmhouses, and plantation style homes - so if you have a chance to stop at a few, you may want to!
Entry
Kids 12 and under are free to visit, and those 13 years old and up are $5 each.
Things to Do
Hiking is what I came here to do, so I’ll tell you about that first. This smaller scale state park has 8 different hiking trails - or if you’re like me - you can combine a few together in order to make a hike more tailored to the length you’re wanting to go.
Ranger programs are also available. These include activities like night hikes, nature talks, and historical tours. Check the park’s events page on their website to find out when specific programs are being offered.
Geocaching and camping are some other options available in the park.
In the summer, the park also offers summer camps for kids between the ages of 8 and 11. Kids can also become a junior ranger by picking up a junior ranger activity journal and completing the tasks in order to earn their badge.
Accommodations
If you’re looking to stay overnight, they have tent camping spots, RV spots with full hookups (30 amp), cabins, screened shelters, group barracks, and a meeting hall which would be perfect for family reunions or other large group events. Be sure to make your reservations online before you go and if you have a Texas state parks pass, you’ll get a discount on your stay.

My parents use to take me and my sister to that campground through out the 70s and 80s. Loved it there. Summertime was all about the pool there. And i use to find lost golfballs there near the course lol. And I've heard they've upgraded lots since with Wifi since it was invented and more modern cabins
I went here yesterday and we ate burgers and played soccer
Barred Owl trails now open again & all the upper trails a scheduled to have new gravel add soon.
