It's amazing that you've ended up such a strong, confident and grounded woman after years in the modeling industry with people poking holes in your soul. Using defiance as a saving grace, well done! It's also sound advice for the rest of us which I thank you for.

IKR? It's so hard to be grounded & strong these days as an average woman or man, let alone in the modeling and fashion world! We're all told that we aren't good enough unless we buy this, wear that or surgically "enhance" something else. When did perfection become a prerequisite for love and for living our best lives?

    Your so Precious..lol
Have watched and loved everything you do....
Thanks to my beautiful mum, I started skin care at 14, now 62 and never miss a day applying day and night creams. Mum passed away in 2021 at 83 but looked 15 years younger..Every day she penciled the eyebrows, put the lippy and rouge on, fluffed up the red hair, perfume and a smile. I hope I'm half as gracious as she was and is in heaven. 💖
    Thanks Nikol...stay safe.
    🌹🙏

Amen to that! Maybe I'm just too vain about my little jowls. I had no choice but to take Prednisone occasionally, and each time my slim face bloated up like a chipmunk. Although I have very few lines, all that puffing over the years did take its toll. I don't want surgery - just a subtle way to minimize the jowls & slack skin under my chin. Like your Mum, I want to as lovely as I can be for the 2nd half of my life. 🦋🦋🦋

You're absolutely right about this! I'm 54, and as I got older, I realized that more makeup made me look like a clown who doesn't know she's not 25 anymore!🤣 So I've learned to spend my money on good skin care and since I started to, I've realized that glowing healthy skin with a BB cream is what looks best for me. I'm learning so much from you, Nikol!

You know I teach my clients that the best foundation is beautiful healthy skin🙌🏻
I think all of the make up and foundation and concealers and contouring actually makes women look older. I watch channels showing so much foundation and absolutely spackleing layers of make up and sending the message to women that we are not beautiful if we don’t completely change ourselves. I wish women would see some of these women in person, many are normal and their pictures have been filtered and changed. When new young clients come in and they have so much make up on it looks so bad, and it is simply heartbreaking. We need to send the message to women that they are enough and unique and exquisite.
Love who you are and find someone to help you make the skin you have something to feel great about.

@@StungbySamantha Yes it is, especially at my age, but some of the “playing” I wound never show anyone, well, maybe my husband. However, there were a couple of times that I came out of the BR, and showed him my “work,” and he said “oh sweet Jesus, don’t go out like that.” I married a younger man, 20 years my junior, so he is not some old fart with an outdated opinion. We went out to eat last week, and our waitress had on ‘long’ false eyelashes. After she took our order, he looked at me and simply said, “did she glue whisk brooms to her eyes? That sh*t is scary looking!” I have never felt the need to hide behind a lot of makeup, but I have always been pretty confident in who I am. Marrying a man 20 years younger says a lot about my personality. He has trouble keeping up with me. 😂😂❤️

SOOOOOO TRUE! I'm 68 and figured out a long time ago that less is more. And that's OK. I've enjoyed doing my makeup since I was in high school but guess what? There's a big difference between what looks good at 18 and what works at my age. I watched a Sweet Young Thing on CZcams awhile back put on so many layers of makeup and contouring and more makeup and God knows what and at the end I thought, "She's buried herself." As for practicality, what is she going to do if she's outside and it's hot and steamy? And what is she going to do at age 50 or 60 or more? Life has enough pressure without demanding physical perfection. Thanks, Nikol! Keep spreading the word!

I contour my face and I just turned 53. Actually, I have always contoured my face but not necessarily has it always been with the current “contour” out on the market. I used to do it with cool toned blushes.
I have never used a bronzer. For one, I’ve never felt the need to. For another, I have an olive undertone. All bronzers look to reddish and gawdy on me. 😂I also RARELY use a shimmery/sparkling highlighter. (I’m not trying to highlight any texture in my skin.😂) If I have a special event AT NIGHT, I will pop on a little shimmering highlighter. It’s MUCH easier to wear at night in low lighting. You’ll get a nice dewy glow without looking like you plastered glitter all over your face. 😂
The funny thing about how I contour is…most people wouldn’t know that’s what I’m actually doing. It’s very subtle and I don’t contour like most people currently do. For me, contouring is about creating shadows when I want to recede something and bring something else out in contrast. I do not contour my nose. Do I have a perfect nose? No. I’m Italian and have a slightly Roman nose and I’m okay with it.🤷🏻‍♀️🥴
It’s funny you mentioned how everyone tells you to hide imperfections and how they end up being a trademark to some. I have what I used to call a mole on my cheek. It showed up when I was a teen and I HATED it. It’s flat and has never changed. My grandmother told me to stop covering it. She is from the Marilyn Monroe era and said “Never cover your “beauty mark!” Do you know how many of us used to draw one on our face? Never cover that up!” I listened to her and never covered my “beauty mark.”😁

Nikol, thank you for this video - the clip of your contour adventure with "dirt on your face" made me literally LOL. For my last six+ years before retirement, I worked a 2nd job in Macy's in Cosmetics, and we all used to experiment and play with each others' faces. I looked at the print ads in our displays and learned where concealer goes (a lot of people forget the "corners" of the nose, etc) and while I do like a little bit of highlighter on top line of cheekbones and tip of nose, I know better than to try to make my face look like someone 50 years my junior.

Women tell me all the time that ‘I don’t look my age!’ Well of course I do!! I just still care very much how I look. Love your approach. Love your verbiage, and your attitude. Keep on goin! We need you! And appreciate you!! ♥️

I don’t do it because at 60 I have a natural darkness under my cheek bone. I try to deflect it with foundation and cheek color. I don’t cover it up. I try to use it to my advantage. Thanks for showing us what we really could look like!

I agree with you Nikol. The older I get, the more I want to look just like me but enhanced. I also have a small face and things can look like too much. I contour a little but end up blending it out so it looks like I did nothing! I am fine with that and believe me I love makeup and believe a little gilding helps everyone. You are beautiful whether you do it or not!

Thank you so very much for this video. More importantly, thank you for who you are. You always speak with knowledge, thoughtfulness, care, genuineness and from a respectful love perspective.
I recently turned 49. I have been on a journey of reincorporating self-care into my life, after too much neglect. You have been a wonderful motivator and truly your videos help me.
This video touched on exactly how I've been feeling lately, which is overwhelmed, at times inferior and out of date, as well as insecure. Watching so many other videos of people applying makeup and other products...never-ending products!...along with all of the trends out there now, just leaves me feeling like I need to be a MUA or have a live-in MUA. I can't afford either.
Your videos always help to calm me down and make me feel better. Your videos help bring me back to that "I got this!" attitude.
Again, thank you so very much for being true to who you are. Thank you for your videos and the high quality and extremely relevant content. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'm back to being enthusiastic, motivated and feeling like I can enjoy taking care of my skin again and using makeup. I'm excited and smiling with you as you say, "Let's get this beauty started."
    Blessings,
    M.Matta

    Something for you, Nikol:
    MAKE-UP, SCHMAKE-UP:
No matter the years you rake up,
Your complexion you want to wake up.
Your make-up you don't want to cake up,
Neither do you want it to flake up.
    You do want the jowls to take up;
That doesn't mean you're doing a fake up.
(And in the sun you don't want to bake up)
I think you know you need a shake up!
Thank you, thank you, thank you (picture me bowing!) :)))

I do use contouring at 69 (almost 70), but lighter colors and cream not powder, and much more sparingly than when I was in my teens/twenties. I do have one question/request Nikol. Could you do a video on caring for brushes? I clean mine and after a couple of times, they start to fall apart. What am I doing wrong? I can't afford to buy all new brushes every couple of months!

Aging as I am. i turned 65 last month. I've followed you for a year now & doing the "less is best" technique. it really works. i get so many compliments now. what does that do? Gives me confidence, therefore, feeling beautiful on the inside comes out to the outside. That's the reality of the compliment. contouring can not do that, in my opinion. 🙂

What an uplifting video Nikol! I have learned so much from you - I use the brown pencil and my lashes look so much more full and I use my eyebrow pencil to darken under the brown bone instead of the start of the brows. This shifts attention and gives me a lifted look. I also made the decision to not dye my hair and let the gray come in. You are an inspiration - love your hair and your outlook!
