    If you had a furling wind generator you would not need gears ( or even electronics) to pitch the blades. This is because they move the blades out of the wind by spinning the entire head. Perhaps a two bladed wind generator would be ideal for residential generators.

    They say that the big deal with wind has do to with the efficiency actually increasing that larger they get. However, the added cost of scaling up, in so far as it is even possible with current material science, is not propertional to the increse in efficiency, not even close, especially if you want to go big enough that you have to used advanced and expensive materials.
    Of course, one blade is naturally a third of the price of 3 blades, not to mention that support structure, which only need to support the weight of a single blade rather than 3, and if on top of that it can also be more efficient, might we not one day see extremely large and also extremely slow, one bladed designs?
    sure there aer challenges, like the need for a counter weight, but might that not be solved with some clever areodynamic, effectively making is an assymtric two bladed design, the secondary blade being insignificant size and weight, comparetively, serving only to generate drag in a specic way to act as a coutner balance?
    One could imagine standing at the foot of such a gigantor, waiting for minutes, or perhaps even hours, for the blade to reach it's lowest point, at which point the challenge is to remain is place, knowing full well the blade tip will come not closer than the length of the several football field, only all proportionality is gone, so that the our subconscious minds have no way of reaching that same conclusion, as the giant blade moves ever closer, in what appears to be a straight line towards you at near the speed of sound, or perhaps even faster.
