I just want to come back and tell you as someone who after playing mtg for [now] two decades cut into modern a couple years ago, this video has been immensely helpful and even as the meta has shifted much of this remains relevant (and at this point I can mentally replace thoughts with my own 2024 addendums). From when I was just learning the format to now having had over 100 hours of reps with some decks/reading on an learning them to be a good pilot this has been a golden resource. I've come back several times not just for my own side board thoughts/but also to understand match-ups from both sides. Really really high quality content and just wanted to thank you sincerely for the time you put into this ~a year ago.
As a player getting back into Modern after a number of years, this is absolute gold, and will save me a lot of time. Thank you so much for your efforts.
God damn a almost 2 hour long video of modern decks and knowledge on them! This is simply amazing! Thank you for this! I love playing modern and i have been out of it casually and competitively for almost a year now since this comment so this helps so much! Thank you again i love this video and this series you have about modern decks!
This is the best video you’ve made in a lineup of already amazing stuff. I’m thinking about returning to playing modern 5 years later just because of your series
Your channel is goated. This is awesome magic content. I am new to magic and have started by playing commander with friends, and I am looking at playing modern. Great quality video
Hey there, amulet aficionado over here. First of all, I want to say this content is a step above most content when it comes to amulet as many people seem to have no real idea what any of the matchups are about. A few key things to note though: -I strongly believe the sideboarding in this video is generally overboarding. Just because a card can theoretically do something does not mean that you want to board it in (endurance vs. elementals, force vs. tron). I always say: “ask yourself if this card is better than explore, realize the answer is always no, then never sideboard.” -I think most of the matchup evaluations are correct generally but amulet definitely has a good hammer matchup, it may even be your best matchup (although burn might be slightly better). -there are some nice play patterns missed that might serve to inform some matchups. Strategic use of the discard step against living end on the draw comes up way more often than one would expect for example. Once again though, great analysis overall. If you decide to do one of these again feel free to reach out to me for some amulet insights.
Very few, if any ppl, are making in-depth deck discussion on CZcams. I hope to see more from this channel that take the discussion beyond the simple dech tech most channels are doing.
Slight amulet note: The elementals matchup is often not won by speed, but by going way over the top in a similar fashion to how tron would, it can often be detrimental to go for a fast win since you'll have enough time to cast 3 lethal spells in a single turn starting around turn 7-9, maybe even later
@@AmmiO2 off the top of my head, I think you underrate how good elementals is against the other midrange/tempo decks. I also think rhinos has a much better matchup against both big mana decks than you do
This is a pretty epic undertaking. Thank you for this. I'd like to request a deck that's outside the meta. Glimpse Elementals. I swear its the only deck that I've played where I feel like I have a chance against Living End and 4C omanth.
You’re awesome and this is great content! Subbed! Just a few comments. Would it be possible to say the decks when you do the VS transition? (Like burn vs tron!) I listen audio only at work and sometimes forget what deck you’re talking about until half way through. Also it would be awesome if you could do the tier two decks. Keep up the great work!
This was great. I am going to play Etron in an RCQ. At the end of the day I want to try it, I normally play U tron and it is a lot of fun. And eventually I will buy my 4 karn liberated for Gtron.
Rhinos player here. We start playing Leyline of the Void in sideboard over Endurance for better matchup against Living End and Murktide/Shadow decks. This leads us to worse matchup against control and nonblue Rakdos.
This was a great video with a lot of good info and excellent production value, I enjoyed it a lot. I was surprised by your evaluations of Hammer's matchups tho. I've always felt like Hammer was much better against 4c than it is against Amulet or Rhinos, but you called Amulet and Rhinos even for Hammer and 4c practically a bye for the elementals deck. Neither of these align with my experience playing hammer. I feel like Amulet and Rhinos are bad matchups for Hammer while 4c is almost even. Maybe a difference could be that I've been playing mono white while your video assumes Hammer is UW? I don't know why that would improve my 4c matchup that much but lacking the blue cards might explain why I have more trouble against Amulet and Rhinos than a UW Hammer player would. Regardless, great video, fun to watch and very informative.
honestly murktide feels pretty favored against the cascade decks with the inclusion of flusterstorm and ledger shredder. A video I would like to see is the difference between murktide with DRC and without
Doubtful. This one was a ton of work and I'm convinced there are going to be bannings, at least of The One Ring, so any video I make now would be out of date too quickly. I _could_ make something a bit different though.
Lightning Helix and Skullcrack are the least efficient burn spells. Helix can be cut if gaining life doesn't matter (VS non-aggro matchups). Skullcrack if the opponent doesn't have any life gain effects. VS aggro decks cut Eidolon since it's detrimental. Searing Blaze comes out if the opponent has zero or few creatures for it to hit (e.g. Belcher, Tron).
Not sure if you're referring to the web pages early on or the 'Favorability Charts'. I made the charts in Photoshop. The web pages Data are sourced from: mtgmeta.io/metagame/modern mtgdecks.net/Modern/winrates
This is an instant standard when it comes MTG Spike content. Great concise way to introduce/reacclimate someone to the format.
Standard, buh dum pish
You're such a breath of fresh air in the mtg community, nice to see someone actually analyzing the modern meta

Burn has answers for Leyline, that's why you run Wear \\ Tear in the side.
Great video, thank you!

Thank you so much, now I finally know what to do with my Tron

Noted on the audio, I'll voice it in the future. Tier 2 is unlikely since there are just SO many decks.

Can u do this for pioneer and pauper. This was great
Would love a pioneer one

Best content ever. Are you interested in doing updated top 10 if meta changes a lot?
In hindsight, I wish I'd have included UW Control, Creativity, and Scam. I'll probably update at some point, but I still need to do Pioneer.

that shing sound effect kinda intense compared to rest of good video.
👍👍 noice

Arcbound Ravager says hi.
The strongest underdog is dredge, if no one has GY hate dredge would easy beat them all.
Is UW no longer meta in modern?
It's very close to the top; I would have put it at No. 11 if I'd expanded the list. It doesn't have any great matchups among the top 10.
@@AmmiO2 I see, thanks for your reply and keep up the good work!
8:06 incorrect
Played Elementals and I went up against hammer. And lost like a dumbass
That sword clash sound effect is too loud and annoying. Either lower the volume on it or talk louder. The rest of the video is amazing, though.
Smash or path joke... This guy....
