Here poverty is not having any money to buy food, not having a job at all, working ok the streets and living day to day. Here the country does not have any kind of assistance programs like the USA or Canada. We are on our own. So if you country has this kind of assistance programs I advice for you to take advantage of it and take it. I remained in the work force until ataxia was so bad, nobody would hire me. Ataxia is progressive and now, at 44, I am immobile. I have been on Disability for almost 9 years --- I have had an income of $1037 per month for 9 years now. When it comes to medicine and food --well, I can no longer afford both ----one or the other. I have been eating once a day for 19 months. Now I have to skip food for a whole day twice a month, b/c I can't afford more. And now, american refugees are flocking here and getting benefits from Canada -- $3600 per month!! Why am I starving and in pain, when non-Canadians are paid by our corrupt government? I am $6000 under the poverty rate. To get me at poverty rate, I'd need $500 more per month. $1500 a month, total, is more than I need. An extra $150 would be good enough. Why would our gov pay $3600/month to an american? Something stinks.

      It’s not that simple. My husband and I managed to buy a house (tiny and needs a lot of Renos) with the help of a friend for the down payment and to co-sign for the mortgage. We were very very lucky to get in before home prices shot up again. The monthly mortgage is a lot cheaper than what we were paying in rent. And we do have one vehicle that we make payments on. I realize that we have comforts many people in other countries don’t have. But we struggle to pay bills in full every month and buy what we need. There is no emergency fund. Our clothes are all from thrift stores and discount racks and hand-me-downs. My daughter’s winter boots just crapped out and I have to wait til the next pay in a couple of weeks to buy another pair and hope that I can get a decent pair at a thrift store or clearance sale ‘cause Winter boots are expensive, and I can’t afford to pay full price. Groceries are bought as cheaply as possible. No luxury treats. No steak. No fish. Etc. Just seeing that someone has a house and a car doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling.

    Nothing can be done until a clear definition of what Middle Class in Canada really is. Everyone in Canada thats working but does not consider themselves rich will say there Middle Class. Someone in the hard pressed Maritimes working at Tim Hortons would say there middle class when in actuality they would be considered working poor in another region of Canada. Then someone in Vancouver or Toronto would say there middle class but would be considered upper middle class in another region of the country. If anything..see the conditions that Aborginals live then rethink what poverty is.

Really poor ain't got a car or any form of transportation, don't like a big house like that and are forced to take whatever benefits they can get. When a person is really PO, not poor, but PO, it's written all over their faces. The PO walk slow, their shoulders are bent, they slouch in chairs, and they always speak in the negative and speak from a place of lack. The poor got a certain language. and that language expresses an emphasis on lack. And you can avquire more with an emphasis on lack. Abundance and Lack don't occupy the same space.

    I don't have a house or a car but I do work 4 to 5 days a week and about 6 to 7 hours a day with an unpaid 30 minute lunch.
    A one bedroom apartment is more expensive than a 2 bedroom apartment so I have a roommate.
    Minimum wage just went to 14.00 an hour. I was laid off for the first time in 20 years of working.. but it was only for a month, thank goodness.
    They're trying to make a Universal Basic Income now in Ontario. So those on welfare can get just as much as those of us who do work.. so the minimum wage increase won't help our economy because most welfare money goes to the "underground market" such as "HOT" TVs and other miscellaneous items not being taxed, like drugs, smokes, alcohol, etc. Which buying these things legally actually helps our economy.
    Immigrants. They are spending the money they earn here by sending it back home to develop that country so they can take my job eventually here and give it to someone there..
    It's ok though. Only 2 in 5 of us are having children. So there won't be a problem because there won't be very many of us left. BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO HAVE CHILDREN AND LIVE IN POVERTY.. lol
    Would you?

    • @agustinkl4641
      @agustinkl4641 Před 4 lety

      @J OneLife What you are not understanding is that most immigrants do the jobs that Canadian natives don't want to do. I toured the buildings under construction many times and they are all immigrants because those who are Canadian work less (I have seen it). I am an immigrant and they demand a lot to be here. Studying at university costs us triple, and to find more qualified work we are at the bottom of the line. But we don't complain, we're happy and grateful to be here, that's why we're so good at working. 60% or 70% of the buildings you see on the streets were made by immigrants. So the only thing we ask for is a little respect, we just want to contribute to Canada, not take anything away from anyone.

      @agustinkl4641 Před 4 lety

      @J OneLife Don't tell me that job is missing in Canada because it is a big lie.I toured the towns like Claresholm or thunderbay and in every place I went they needed people, in some places they need more than 20 or 30 people. In fact in one place they told me that they had to close a lot of stables and farms for lack of people.Why do you think the government will create the rural and northern immigration system in September? Everyone wants to work in the big saturated cities, but Canada need people who occupy the other towns

    • @agustinkl4641
      @agustinkl4641 Před 4 lety

    I'm poor and I can say that the only way to get out of, what I say is mild poverty, is to be independent. I have made a decision that I shouldn't rely on government to solve my problems and politicians just come and go but my financial situation might remain the same, all I can say is that I gave up being entitled to receiving government benefits despite I have the right to receive them. The only sure solution to financial stability is to help myself by working and investing for the future.
    If I receive benefits from the government then thanks. If I don't then alright...

  • @crazyforcanada

    Poverty? This is what they now call "poverty"? Oh, my. Some people don't know what poverty really is. Living on rations for 20 years, going hungry the last half of each month, standing in line for a food basket, digging through used clothing at the Salvation Army "thrift" store, not having enough money for a space-heater in the ice-cold apartment your slum-lord apartment collects rent for, being told by Sun Youth on Saint Urban, no food or clothes this month for regular Canadians, until further notice all resources go only to Haitian refugees flown in by the federal government -- and then you go home in the rags you came in. The people in this vid look pretty well dressed and live in a house. The real poor don't know what a house is. The real poor live in single rooms with a hot plate and fridge, or in "distressed" real estate slum lords buy just to rent to the poor, because nobody else will i.e., live over a truck stop and loading dock that beeps 18 hours a day past the red fence outside your window.
