    Lusitania had some of the most gorgeous interiors of any Edwardian liner. I even prefer her decor to that of Olympic/Titanic. The Lucy had a light airy feel which was rather unique as many ships (including her sister Mauretania) had a much darker tone to their interiors.

That way people will be able to see the real difference in splendor that she had compared to the butchered not splendour that she has today... still wonderful, don't get me wrong. Spammals Very true, The 3rd Class on the Lusitania and Mauretainia also seemed to have more thought on their public spaces than those on Olympic, eg: the steel frame work looks to be covered by panels. I find the difference between the classes to be less drastic than on the Olympic Class (or any other White Star Liner pre 1930) I love comparing these ships especially when it is known they had to merge 20-30 years later and seeing elements from both the White Star ships and Cunard ships that would later end up being on the Queen Mary.

    • @JordonMcConnell
      @JordonMcConnell Před 4 lety

      @@Spammals If you have time, you'll have to look up photos of 1st and 2nd class accommodations on Lusitania and Mauretania, I think in many ways they equaled the Olympic Class, with the exception (in my opinion) being the Olympic Class's larger number of cabins featuring private toilets. I think this was a welcome development. It seems a lot of the experts on these ships I read argue the Cunard sisters were equal in accommodations though you would sacrifice a bit of cabin space (at least in terms of 1st class) in order to make good speed. The ship I really wish there was more readily information on of this era is the SS France of 1912. It very well was probably the only ship that could take on the Cunard ships and the olympic class in terms of luxury, in addition to being France's elegant 4-funneled answer to the other European liners. The photos that exist of it are incredible. Its grand staircase descended directly into the dining saloon, kind of merging the best of the olympic and cunard ships, it featured a moorish themed lounge/bar, beautiful cafés and restaurants. I've read it was overshadowed by the Titanic disaster and thus had a pretty reserved maiden voyage as its voyage was only a week after, but it also helped make France a true competitor in the trans-atlantic trade.

I love what this guy is doing with the ship, and I hope he can give the ship the justice it deserves. Lusitania definitely had its beauty, but after getting an idea for the interior, the Olympic class were just nicer ships. The staircase looks nice, but there's no competition between the two. White Star blew Cunard out of the water in that regard. Maybe my memory is deceiving me, but didn't they call the elevators lifts on Cunard ships and elevators on White Star ships? Does anyone know if C Deck was accessible for all classes? The deck plans don't show any sort of walls or railings between third class facilities forward, saloon class amidships, and second class aft.
