Is Sami really related to Finnish? I'm not so sure about that. I know that Finnish is its own language, not related to other languages, and I thought the same about Sami. I could be wrong. All I know is that Sami culture is in some of the Nordic countries, like Norway, Sweden and Finnland. Anyway, I'm really happy that they won :)

      1. KEiiNO - Spirit in the Sky (Overall a great pop song which is elevated by the joik. The problem is that it sounds almost identical to Måns Zelmerlöw's ''Heroes'')
      2. Mørland - En Livredd Mann (Probably the actual best when it comes to composition and performance, but it just lacks that one extra thing which would bring it to that first place)
      3. Hank von Hell - Fake It (Hell yeah! ROCK!)
      4. Chris Medina - We Try (Chris Medina is amazing, the chorus does feel a little underwhelming though and becuase of that it comes in at number 4)
      5. Adrian Jorgensen - The Bubble (Reminds me of EDEN, blackbear and Jaymes Young which is always great. The problem is that it does get kinda boring after a while)
      6. Ingrid Beg Mehus - Feel (Just a decent song, I guess)
      7. D'Sound - Mr. Unicorn (It's a bit odd)
      8. Carina Dahl - Hold Me Down (Good, but not good enough to place higher)
      9. Anna-Lisa Kumoji - Holla (An annoying opening and chorus, with some weird beats etc. It doesn't work.)
      10. Erlend Bratland - Sing for You (He is usually a great singer, but his voice doesn't mix well with the song. It sounds annoying. Not to the point where you get mad, but just enough to make you want to rupture your own eardrums.)

To everyone who was wondering. Keiino won with “Spirit in the sky” and “The Bubble” as second. It won because it had a typical Norwegian part in it. In other words, the Sami way to sing, joik. The Sami people have been respected very much since the 1980’s in Norway. The Sami people weren’t allowed to speak in Sami, raise their children in the Sami culture and had to send their children away to Norwegian schools. Today there are Sami schools from Trondheim (middle of Norway) to the very north in Hammarfest. The Norwegian people then thought it would be great to have a song in Eurovision which not only represented Norway as a country, but the Sami people as well, who is just as Norwegian as us. For those of you who didn’t watch Mgp 2019, there was Sami people with their national clothing (Kofte in Norwegian) for the first time in years. This is a great improvement in the Norwegian country. The person who also sang in Sami said, after their performance, “Æ e så stolt over den samiske kultur og det e et mirakel å være her” which translates to “I am so proud of the Sami culture and it’s a miracle to be here”. You were also live in Norwegian tv the 2nd of March which was the day MGP was. Hope you found this helpful. Just wait to see your countries get smashed in The finale!

No the song that is NOT English in "Spirit in the sky" (which off course won) is called JOIK. It's a type of singing done by the Sami people in the north of Norway. Very much like the old (American) Indian culture (tents and all). No one in Norway understand the sami language. Powerfull and ancient type of song.

  • @lindakristinekjlibraten757

Keiino: No it's not Norwegian, it is Sami language. We who only speake Norwegian don't understand Sami, but still both are official languages in Norway. Sami is in the very north of Norway, ( around the Russian border, Karasjok and in the aera around there).

This is probably my favorite NF this year next to A Dal, I only really dislike Fake It and Sing for You.
My favorites are Mr. Unicorn, Feel, and En Livredd Mann (the best ballad I've heard along in the NFs with maybe Az én Ápam and Tous les Deux), and Holla is amazing too! I would like Spirit in the Sky, but the chorus is too schlagery and boring for me compared to everything else in the song.

    4) Feel
    3) The Bubble
    2) En livredd mann
    1) Spirit in the Sky
I don't think we will win this year, but I can see KEiiNO doing really well if done right on stage.

    No, he's not.
It's "davvisámegiella" (one of the Sámi languages).
It's spoken by the Sámi people (the native population of Northern Norway.)
The language is in the Finno-Ugric language family, a sub-set of the Uralic language family, a language family that for the most part is found in northern Russia all the way to the far east in Sibiria with the Samoyed languages and as far west as Norway.
The Southern extent of the language family is Hungarian.
Remember, this is a language *family*
For some perspective, English, German and Norwegian are all in the Germanic language family (similar to Finno-Urgic) and they're in turn a part of Indo-European language family, similarly to how Finno-Urgic is a part of the the Uralic language family, so the Samoyed languages are related to "davvisámegiella" in the same way that English is related to, Latin, (and therefore Italian, Spanish, Portugese, etc), Sanskrit (Urdu, Hindi and many other languages in northern India), Greek, Slavic (Russian, the languages of the Balkans, Polish, the languages of the southern Baltic states, etc).
Or in other words, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Greek, Italian, French, English, Spanish, Norwegian, German, Latvian, Polish, Iranian and Portugese are *all* closer related to English then davvisámegiella, Hungarian, Finnish or Samoyed is to English.
While Northern Sami ("davvisámegiella" in their own language), Hungarian, Finnish and Samoyed are all related to eachother to a greater or lesser degree.
    17:41
    Now *THAT* is Norwegian. ;-)
Compare that to 16:05 and onwards and you'll notice that it's not just different languages, but different language families and *very* different cultures. ;-)
Of course we've been interacting for more then a thousand years, so it's not like there's no cultural interchange there, but I feel that it's important to remember the uniqueness of both languages and cultures compared to eachother.
