  • Climbing the South Sister and sleeping on the summit of Oregons third tallest mountain!
Laughing and struggling our way up 4900 vertical feet & the notorious "red mile". All while carrying heavy over night packs. To be rewarded with stunning views of Mount Bachelor and the entire Sisters wilderness.
Hiking the South Sister is one to add to any Oregon hiking list!

Absolutely agree that it's a strength to come into something new (like backpacking and mountaineering) and do your best to learn, ask questions and dare to participate with others with much more experience. Good thoughts.

My first climb to a mountain summit, a long time ago and quite a few climbs behind me. Once you start, you can't stop. On our climb we ended up sleeping about 9000 feet. I'd like to go back and sleep on the summit at some point, the views were spectacular and it was one of my favorites. Thanks for posting your video.

That's freaking awesome, heading to Oregon in a week or so and I'm so excited I can barely sleep every night just thinking about hiking. 🤙🤙🤙

Nice video! My son and I climbed it this summer, too. That last section is a killer but the views are so worth it.

Great video and gives me a good perspective on this climb. I'm hiking South Sister this coming weekend. I expect that there will be at least some snow. Do you think it is so steep that it would require crampons as opposed to snow spikes? I'm thinking that snow spikes would be all we need. I'm not really sure if we would even need ice axes. Thanks!

You’re going to definitely want to check on the current trail conditions to make the best decision regarding that right now. When I climbed in July there were still a couple of snow fields to cross. czcams.com/video/EbV6g4_SwMw/video.htmlsi=PD5rrAMfL_Uj1lLr
So being that it’s almost November and there has definitely been more snow fall the best advice I can give is to check current trail conditions online. And then send a message or post on Facebook ‘Oregon Hikers and climbers’ group and see if anyone has recently done it and what their advice might be
