    6:15 Offering 10-20 dollars more actually proved to be useful in finding my previous house and this one. Interestingly, although I offered more then the listed rental fee, the agency and the owner decided to go ahead with the amount in the ad.
    If you have arrived recently, it is a bit difficult to find houses even in smaller cities like Adelaide, even with above average income. Being a newcomer means there is a lack of payslips and tenancy history. My company helped me with a letter indicating my annual salary and position in the firm.

    As of the start of April 2023 there are 50000 rental properties available in all of Australia. Sounds good?
    There are over 33000 people coming in every month. If you arrive in May you will be fighting for the remaining 17000. Don't come in June.
    The housing situation here is terrible. Bring a tent!
    And that's coming from an Aussie.
    Caravan prices are going up as families are being forced to live in them. People who's housee were burnt down by the bushfires 3 years ago are living in hotels as the insurance companies can't get them a rental.
    Also everything is now 10 times the price! Bring a shit load of money.

    Even the locals cant find rental properties with 2 working adults...there are 30 to 40 people going to inspect a rental property. Many people are offering more rent in advance to try to secure a property. Australia is experiencing an all time record low of affordable housing. Many people have been left homeless since the pandemic hit. I do not recomnend anyone travel here in the hopes of finding a rental property when our hard working Aussies are struggling to find a rental property.

    • @livingsimplyaustralia
      @livingsimplyaustralia  Před 2 lety +7

      Great question. What I suggest to do (if you are able to do so), your first 3 to 4 weeks in Australia to rent an Airbnb or shared accommodation (whilst you look for a more permanent place to live), this way you can use the 'landlord'/person renting you the room as a reference for your rental application. If you need a second reference, perhaps a friend or someone you know in Australia, or from work can also be your references and confirm you have good 'character'. (Also you'll find that smaller real estate agents are more forgiving than big agencies, so I suggest being a bit more flexible for your first property). This worked pretty well for me and other people I know :)

      Hi Meredith! Thanks for your questions. Utilities are usually paid by yourself (you organise your electricity provider, hot water, internet, etc. - other things like gas tend to be arranged by the landlord, but this is not always the case, it depends on whether you rent an apartment or house, and it also varies from landlord to landlord - your rental agreement will specify each of these items). In terms of additional costs, I have a video on Cost of Living where I talk about all costs to be considered czcams.com/video/Mup7AQbHZZM/video.html I hope this is of some help :)
