  • In "COVID-19, Monkeypox, and Pediatric Hepatitis," Dr. Osterholm and Chris Dall discuss the relatively lower rates of severe COVID illness and death in the US and many other parts of the world, the global monkeypox outbreak, and the latest on the rise in unexplained pediatric hepatitis.

    A trip down memory lane when you said that the US had hit 3 million cases on July 8, 2020, with 130,000 deaths. I retired from my job on July 7, 2020 after having worked the final 3.5 months from home. I've been getting all my vaccines and have remained covid-free in retirement, but I'm also still masking and avoiding restaurants and crowds. Every time the clouds have seemed ready to part, a new rainstorm moves in.

    As of May 31, cases in Taiwan have started to decline; however, deaths have not subsided. In addition, more and more patients in Taiwan are reporting getting Omicron twice. If this is not a sign of antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), I don't know what it is.

    • @christopherrobinson7541
      @christopherrobinson7541 Před 2 lety

      It is not a sign of ADE, but of reinfection, because infection of previous variants affords little protection against the new variants. The Situation even even worse with BA.4 & BA.5.

    On note of covid and liver faillures - please look at Israel's latest findings . They deem it now a post-covid disease, taking place an average of 74 days post infection and is treated with immunosuppressants instead of antivirals successfully.

    On the note of recorded deaths: here in the Netherlands our excess deaths directly attributable to covid according to our Centraal Bureau van de Statistiek and RIVM has for the past months been 200-400 a week steadily while recorded deaths were anywhere from less than a dozen to a dozen a day. Testing advisory was dropped so PCR testing went from 15k a day to hundreds. Currently though we are seeing a steady 50-60% rise in cases week on week.
    And yet our Minister of Health says all that we need to do is instead of shake hands do fist bumps and maybe its time to dust off splatter shields in stores and perhaps put one-way routes..

    • @roydoorenspleet1548
      @roydoorenspleet1548 Před 2 lety

      Official death toll beginning of this year was 20.000 but the CBS did investigations and found the actual deathtoll at that time was nearer 41.000. Yet reporting to the ECDC our government sticks to the "official"number - deaths reported while in care of hospitals and care-homes only. Not those who were told it was better to die at home because they were too old to survive treatment and were given palliative care only at home, etc.
      Exactly the same as Sweden.

      The head of the Dutch CDC Jaap van Dissel followed Ander's Tegnell's strategy of letting it rip slowly to the letter. He told masks were folly. He denied masks to care-home personel and hospital staff. He continues to deny airborne spread and we continue on the path of the flu-playbook not the sars-playbook ie vaccinate and forget and let it spread at will. They have deployed "corona-koffers" suitcases with oxygen and medicines and a digital connection to hospital and for months a steady 1000 people are using them every day - who would otherwise be adding to the hospitalisation numbers.

    Taiwan is heading into its THIRD month of Omicron surge. On May 27, cases have gone up again to 94,808 new confirmed cases. There are now more than 1.65 MILLION active cases in Taiwan, out of 23.5 million total residents. The island has some of the highest vaccination and booster rates in the world. Yesterday saw the highest single-day COVID deaths at 126.
    YOUR VACCINES HAVE FAILED.

    • @christopherrobinson7541
      @christopherrobinson7541 Před 2 lety +5

      Your assertion that the vaccine has failed in NONSENSE. The reason why the cases in Taiwan took off was that although the immunity from vaccination was high, there was almost no immunity from previous virants. The total immunity was too low to afford protection from BA.2. As the number of natural infections increases the contribution to total increases and the case rate will plateau and begin to fall. The peak will be mid-June.

      Taiwan is such a unique case bc they went from a zero covid (total isolation) model to an open model w vaccines. the vaccines r new to the population.

      @@elizabethr4107 Another interesting factoid is that, as of May 28, Taiwan has had 20 _SERIOUS_ cases of pediatric COVID (that required hospitalization), and 10 of these kids died. Could antibody-dependent enhancement of viral replication be responsible for this travesty?
