The system is so messed up. I completely dedicated the past 2 years of my life to the lc and was devastated on results day. I realise now that I should have delighted with my 520 points but I was heartbroken because the course I really want is ridiculously high points. We need to be proud of our achievements and not be compared to those around us, the points system is just competing to see who can learn off the most shite for 2 weeks of exams and we’ve forgotten it all already. In desperate need of reform
Now that is perfect. I barely completed my leaving cert, and joined the Defence Forces because I knew nothing else, I was 29 when I finally found what I wanted to do and that's a firefighter. I'm now doing it and it's very rewarding, I just completed college in UCC just recently also. but the message is you won't know nothing unless you go out to the world. Big weldone to all leaving cert students, and remember it's the toughest days are the best because that's when you learn.
It’s not all on the final exams tho. The majority of subjects have year long projects or orals that are worth a massive chunk. Like, what do you even propose? Almost every country has the exact same system, and I would even say that Ireland has one of the “easiest” written exams out there. I say all this as a teacher in training
@@GiotarRSlol, Ireland has the easiest exams? We HAVE to do 6+ subjects, all completely different from one another. Most courses require 2 languages to be done. The A levels are 3 subjects, all of which can be similar.
Truth. To much pressure on young people to do well. With some it almost as if there a failure. My opinion for years is that it should be split into 2 exams at Christmas and at summer of leaving cert
There's a path for everyone. Courses, plc, college, apprenticeships. Straight up jobs and graft. It's all hard work with ups and downs. The main thing is head up and look forward, the future can always be bright
Hate today. Too much hype about the leaving cert in this country. Theres is life after it. Bloody news never shut up about it today. No other country in the world goes on about final exams like Ireland does.
My uncle married a girl from Nothern Ireland. She was shocked at the amount of media coverage around state exams in the republic. She thinks it just adds to the stress of the students.
It was like crap anyways. People got higher than deserved and alot of young people got less than what they were going to get. Corrupt. Only care about the people on the top. Always was even when i done my lc
100% corrupt, just look at stats. It usually kids that go to private schools get highest points. I went to college with lot them. I can confirm they we're not brightest bunch. I don't know how they got over 500 points.
ahhh sooo fecking true and well explained and of course we should support our young people. hip hip hooray for this video rory - u are the business. Pure legend...🥃
jeez hai good video Rory. Studying engineering in uni there, best way i learn is with me hands but since it went academic this year i couldn't learn properly. Failed the year so i did. Gutted so I am. i'll have to repeat. This hit home Rory. Cheers for the boost
School: something you're made to do, but have to perform well in it or your future is ruined. Something you love to do and would work at to be succesful in: "Why are you wasting your time on that?" "is there good money in it? Is there much progression in it?" Nonsense.
Great video, Rory. It reminds me of when my son showed me his results. He got 290 points too. To say I was sad was an understatement. I took to the drink something chronic and ended up losing the keys to my car. I had to hot wire my car every day to drive down for more cans. The moral of the story is, just because there’s snow on the roof is worth two in the bush. Thanks for the inspiration, Rory.
To be honest this was a very difficult year for leaving cert students. Many will have done better than they deserve and many less well. There was no good reason to put off the leaving, just FF wanting to out flank SF which meant they undermined the process. Playing politics with peoples futures
Well done to all the Leaving Certs who read this comment

I've a lad that's 18 and has in on the Autistic spectrum. Does the army allowed a person to join with ASD.

Thanks Mark. He went off himself and applied for it. He said he's sick of doing nothing at home. My Dad was a Congo veteran so he decided to join up.
Wish him the best 👍👍👍

Anyone else think the education system needs to change? Not sure it should all been on the final exams.
