Great looking table, and we liked the idea of using the glue as a epoxy dam. We made a table with an epoxy top, and found out the hard way about keeping bugs out of the stuff. Good thing that fly kept it's distance!
Thanks!! Yeah we learned it also the hard way, and sometimes you need to be creative for some problems😃
Gorgeous result! Enjoyed the process and it raised some constructive questions here.
Must try!
Beautiful! Suggestions for next time...
Seal the wood first - many of your bubbles were from air coming out of the wood. Use a thin coat of clear epoxy to coat all the edges of the wood. Then, when you pour your colored epoxy, you will get many fewer bubbles.
Use packing tape on your base - it will come off your project much easier. Just cover the whole thing with strips of tape. If the epoxy DOES stick, the tape will come off your wood with having to destroy the wood.
Use a piece of cardboard to fill the underside. Cut it to the right size/shape, place a box or something like that as support under it, then you can use much less of the foamy stuff (or hot glue or caulking) to fill in the gaps around the edges of the cardboard. Also, if you use cardboard covered in packing tape, and hot glue to seal the edges, you can remove it once the epoxy cures. If your epoxy is thin and doesn't use very much opaque fillers, you could put a light inside!
I agree with the other about the bark, it will likely come off. I like the look of the wood without the bark better as well.
But, as I said, it did come out very beautiful. Maybe purple next time? :)
WOW thanks for your great suggestions👏 this is always welcome! Yeah we are working on more projects with Epoxy only we need to have more time haha
Looks awesome! Such a lovely chunk of wood! We love wood and resin combos!
Thanks Den & Mug😁
Awesome build great end result. Good inspiration for other projects.
Thanks Fred! 👍
That looks really cool. Love the blue.
Thanks Kawy!!
Finally a great video that’s easy to follow. Thanks for this! Awesome video and great table
Wow thanks, yes we have shown the whole process of making this epoxy table. We have some more cool Epoxy projects!!
If you want a easy video check out Nathan at the good view woodwork. He walks you thru step by step with several videos from mold to finish and always responds to messages with questions or comments. Just made my first table following his lead and it was amazing
Beautiful and so different from others, loved it
Thanks amber😁. Tomorrow we will upload another very nice project 😉
Very nice, wonderful turn out. I have One log just like that, still looking for ideas. Thank You.
Love the Foam idea. I had the idea for making a form !
Thanks😉!!! try to make the top level and pour it the other way around, that will make it a lot easier. That's what I'd do if I had to do it again.
It's cool the effect of depth the blue has!
Thanks Danielle👍
Another good one apoxy fish tank table! Pree much a fish tank coffee tank but add this stuff in somehow to the look it be cool looking
Haha thanks!!
Polyester resin is expensive . You can use PU foams also .
Or just fill with cement with sand plaster and reinforce it with steel nails & wires
Thanks for the suggestions, they are always welkom👍
Awesome job, your table is beautiful.
Thanks Sandy!
Exactly what I needed
GORGEOUS!!!!!!! Great job!
Thanks Alex!!!!
Beautiful
I really like this table, good job!
Thanks Redmar😁
So beautiful!!
Thank you !!!
👍thank you! After watching this video you gave me every reason NOT to give up!
Thanks! Yes, just keep going till it’s finished. And you diddn’t see everything haha😉. What are you making?
I’m attempting my first table and I wanted to see what other first timers were doing. I will continue to follow I loved your video ( your cat was a sweet touch by the way 🤗)
Nice, Epoxy is a really cool material for making things. You problably saw also our Bowling Ball. This year we are going to make more with Epoxy and also tables😁
Does the sanding and bark removal eliminate any bugs that may be hiding in the wood? I have small logs drying at this time and wondered about that? ( wouldn’t want to be admiring my beautiful finished table and seeing little desperate faces screaming to get out through the epoxy) 😩
The sanding do not prevent of any bugs. But we bought the wood with a warranty.
Looks great!
Thanks Mateo!!
just because your "bye" at the end was real i sub
Hahah😂 thank you bye👋
Hermosa!
I think I would’ve cut that table width in half and made two separate tables. Looks great 👍
This was very difficult to saw and the chance was very likely that the wood brake and then it was our risk, this we did not want to risk.
Just amazing.. good job..
Thanks Derrick!!
Verdadeira obra de arte! Amei!
Muito obrigado ☺️ para nosso primeiro trabalho com epoxy ficou bom, né?!
The table is so nice. so pretty table
Thanks you😁
Thanks
Thanks for sharing your experience... One question though - if you left the polythene in place, or at least slightly proud of the surface, there'd be no leaks and you could simply sand it away?
Thank you and thanks for the question. Because our wood wasn't level, we put an extra layer of epoxy casting so that everything is filled and this can easily be sanded. Any questions just let us know 😉
I dig the cat, Aloha from Honolulu Hawaii
Hi🙋♂️ Haha, yeah he is cool🐈
Try using smoke to get those bubbles out. People will throw the ‘use a torch’ tip out there, but it’s not the heat that does it, it’s the co2. And not to promote myself, I made a video on it (the smoke bucket).
Awesome project!
Ahhh thanks for the great TIP, never heard of saw it in other video's!!
Dude, you worked hard! Hi - 5 to the Mrs.!
Thanks a lot🙏, yeah and many projects coming up. Check our instagram @weekendbuilders for preview🎥
The fly getting close to your epoxy had me cracking up! Turned out really nice! I bet it was frustrating having all that epoxy seeping into those unknown bug holes
Haha indeed! yes it was a lot of work to fill all those holes😅 but the end result is really nice👌
Nice how to buy this chemical am from sri lanka
If you first seal the wood before applying epoxy then the little holes you experienced will be greatly diminished (of course you will then need to sand a bit to get a good bond to the epoxy). Also, use mold release to keep base from sticking so much. But in the the end your product was quite nice. Well done!
Thanks for the great tips, we now have more experience with Epoxy and made different projects with this cool product!
Good stuff, I think I might've cut the stump horizontally and made multiple tables at different heights
We asked the supplier but he thought the wood will brake because the hole is so big.
Beautiful
Thanks :)
try using polyester resin for the filler it'll strengthen the wood round by filling the micro holes, rather than the builder's foam which will absorb moisture in the air.
That’s a constructive comment !!! thank you for the tip for sure we will consider it the next time 👌
Polyester is also much cheaper
मस्त है boss....looking beautiful...
Thanks:-)
Very nice!
Really nice!
Thanks😉
Great job! My only suggestion would be to use only three legs, with round tables. That way, there is less of a chance you will end up with a wobbly table, due to uneven floor or legs that aren't exactly manufactured to the same specifications.
Thank you! Great suggestion 🤩 !!!
Bella mesa , me fascina
Obrigado pelo apoio!!!! :)
Not sure i like your technique but its pretty
Thanks ! :)
Hi, can I use part of your video to my compilation of the most interesting woodworking projects ?
Please contact us by mail, see the about page for the address,
That is one real amazing coffee table
Funny thing I just received 2kg of resin just the other day and was thinking of a project for my first resin project but nothing on your skale really injoyed the video 👏👏
Thanks!!! A nice, Epoxy is really great to work with, any questions just let us know!!
@@WeekendBuilders thank will do sweet
@@WeekendBuilders How much resin did you pour in your table?
Belo trabalho, parabéns.
Muito obrigado!!! Estamos sempre trabalhando para fazer cada vez melhor! :)
Beautiful and unique
Thanks Laureen!!!!
Great looking table :) Nice work ॐ
Thanks😃
Fantastic 👍
Thanks!!!
Omg the cat💕💕❤💖
Hi is big now, but still cool😉
very good girl!
Great work
Thanks James😉
Great Job 😬👍😊
Thanks👍
Good work man
Thank you😃
excellent!
Thanks !!! :)
before pouring resin on a live edge it is a good idea to make a small batch of epoxy and coat the edges with it so they become sealed and can't release bubbles during the "big" pour.
Thats exact what we want to do next time😃 thanks for the tip!!

What grit do you use on the belt sander? I’m doing something similar and my belt sander doesn’t seem to be making a dent.
Hi, nice you are also making, check the video at 4:15min👍
Preciosa 👏👏👏
Gracias !!!!
Se ve increíble, tan sólo te recomiendo que le quites la corteza ya que ahí se esconden insectos que atacan a la madera. Pero muy bonita la mesa.
Gracias!!! E gracias por el consejo vamos a observar si hay que quitar la corteza !!!
Looks cool. You might have problems with losing some of the bark when it really dries out.
The store told us that this piece already dried for more then two years and should not give any problems with this🤞😁
That's what i was thinking. I took all of my bark off
Amazing
Thanks😁
Anyway to seal the sides? Wouldn't over time it gets dry and crumble?
This trunk had been dried for 3 years so the bark was all dried out, so the outside will not give any problems. We would never completely seal these types of logs ourselves.
Fantastic effort 💪
Thanks Adrian👍
@@WeekendBuilders super addictive hobby especially seeing the final result of your hard work 😍
I would have done 3d lake typ scene in hole .... Alot more material and time but perfect wood for it
A 3D lake is also really cool and also on our list to make😁 . We have some nice other Epoxy projects that we are making at the moment💪
Very nice
Can you tape the sides & bottom side to prevent epoxy from leaking out instead?
If we would do this project again, it would be completely different. Indeed you can tape the bottom. But what is also important is to brush the stump first with Epoxy so that the holes are closed.
Wish the video included making that great top pattern in the resin. Any advice how to create that design?
We didn't really pay attention to this pattern, this was because of the filling and the epoxy went down a bit. You can stir with a stick or you can use a heath gun to get a pattern. Check our other video Epoxy River Table, we used the heath gun there. Success in making your project 👌😁
@@WeekendBuilders Thanks for the reply guys. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos!
hi how did you seal the bark? not sure if i missed that part.
Didn't seal the bark, this one dried for a couple or years already.
Good job. Nice
Thank you 😁
Weekend Builders In which country do you live?
The Netherlands
Super kolego.
Greetings.
Thanks!!!!
Very beautiful table! I am about to do a table from part of a trunk of a tree. My question is did you do anything to the bark or just left it natural? Does it peel off or anything like that. Many ppl don't keep the bark, but you did and I want to, so just want to know how to protect it. Please let me know your experience with leaving the bark.. Thanks
Hi Keja, Thanks!! We did nothing with the bark. The tree disc has been drying for 2 years so the bark is completely dehydrated and stays in place. We like this without bark more than without, like, you haha. suc6!!!
So does the wood have to dry out that long? Out how long should the wood dry out? The wood I'm getting just been cut off from a tree that was cut down 2 weeks ago
very good
Thanks!!
I made something similar a bit ago, the log was completely dry and it absorbed SO MUCH epoxy I thought 2 litres would be enough ( it should’ve ) but ended up using 5.
Yes! You first need to coat the inside! That way you save a lot of epoxy 😁
@@WeekendBuilders I noticed that, I really liked your method of using the plastic wrap to save epoxy, I will definitely be doing that next time! Thanks for the video keep up the good work!
Would you tell, how much literes of Epoxy to you used?
We used too much because we had to learn using epoxy for the first time. But I think around 10kg.
Fušerina!
What kind of resin are you using and what paint
We used Epoxy from mrboat.nl www.mrboat.nl/mrboat-epoxy/ this is a dutch site and pigment colors www.mrboat.nl/kleurstoffen-pigmenten/metallic-epoxypigmenten/ . Check out our Amazon links in the description for international shipment.
Hi.
The spray foam. May i know the name and brand?
This is just the cheapest spray foam available, no specific brand😄
Doesn't the bark chip off over time?
Nope, this tree trunk had been drying for more than 2 years so it stayed in place.
Vi a una youtuber que lo hizo mas facil. Puso cinta aislante en el top y le dio la vuelta. Rellenando desde abajo. La quitas y listo, queda plano y gastas la justa. Aun asi te ha quedado increible. Enhorabuena!!
First white what did he do? And after that these blue ones are theirs. Tell name
Sorry we didn't understand your comment, can you explain again? The materials we used you can't find in the description.
subbed
Thanks👍 sub back, nice channel you have😁
Very pretty!! After a year now, is there anything that you would do differently?
We've worked and learned a lot this year with Epoxy. I'd probably level the top completely. The bark doesn't have to be removed because it was already dry. Then I would rub the top with a roller and the inside with epoxy with a brush. The real epoxy casting I'd do upside down.
I'm thinking of maybe doing this project again, how would I do it now with this experience, would you find this interesting? Maybe I'm gonna put this question on instagram or people who like to see it.
@@WeekendBuilders Yes, the comparison would be very interesting. Thanks for responding.
New to the channel, but not disappointed, it looks great! Did you consider cutting it in half along the X and doing two thinner tables?
Thanks for the sub😉. That was also our first thought, but the hole was so big that the company where we bought the wood didn't want to do that, to prevent damage to the disk.
gostaria muito de fazer essa mesa, mas moro em Brasília, Capital do Brasil, onde posso comprar esses materiais, aqui...
Dê uma olhada neste link e desejamos-lhe muito sucesso6 😉amzn.to/3iSB3WS
Hola! ¿Qué producto usas en el minuto 4:40? Gracias.
Agua😂
Hye what is the dewalt belt sander *model*?
We used a DeWalt DW432 belt sander.
I dont know. I kinda liked it with the epoxy lower, not flush. With some of the inside wood showing.
To each his own, but I probably would have used wooden or plastic chisels to take out the foam on the bottom, to let light through also.
Thank you, this was our first Epoxy project so we had to try a little how everything works. Now we make a lot of nice Epoxy projects with other techniques haha
@@WeekendBuilders Thats great. They're only going to get better as you do more.
Sand down the wooden top again then blow torch it to bring out the grain it the wood :)
Thanks for the tip 👌
C est quoi le produit que vous utiliser merci d’avance?
We used the material Epoxy, we put all the info in the description!
Be careful leaving the bark on. I've just started an Oak Cookie project and there was an infestation of woodwork under the bark!
The wood we used was already 2 years drying outside so we aren't that scared of bark.
Привет,классная работа.Давай поддержим наши каналы.
Thanks!
Nice lake.... most people see HCM body really takes out overthere don't needs perfect wood because of.....
We don't like the prefect wood the wood need to have some character!!
It would be more good looking if you add another layer of epoxy covering the whole top to get a smooth surface
We have thought about that, but since it was our first project with epoxy we did it this way. But thanks for the tip😉
@@WeekendBuilders thank you very much sir
Nice project. Though with the benefit of hindsight I wonder if it wouldn't have been easier to glue or caulk the top of the piece to a piece of board and fill it with epoxy from the bottom. It seems like you ended up having to pry off your base to sand in either case.
We had thought of this but the disc was not level and we did not have the tools to make it level. So that is why we have chosen this way.
It doesnt matter if its not level, use plenty of hot glue to glue the board with the disc, this will fill all gaps and prevent the epoxy from leaking out. This way you will probably need less than 1/4 the epoxy you used and no filler is needed(BOTTOM CAN BE LEFT HOLLOW). The bark should also be treated or it will peel off in time. Use epoxy to fill all cracks on the top or consider a layer of epoxy on the entire surface for that glassy look. Good project but could have been executed much simpler
@@web19designer that's what I thought too
Joe Hot glue instead of silicone caulk? You must work much faster than I if you could get that done quickly enough to get that to adhere properly, but I agree in theory.
At least he ended up with a neat table out of it and what first time project isn't a learning experience?
Hi Piccolo, yeah this was a big learning for us haha!
You could have run caulk around the edges instead of stuffing aluminum
Now that we have the experience with epoxy, we always use caulk indeed. This was really the first time we worked with epoxy.
The bark around the outside will all fall off. From experience, there is nothing you can do to stop it. When I do anything with a live edge I remove the bark now. It will be really quick as it dries out inside your house, it will start popping off.
Thanks for sharing your experience, we really appreciate this👍. The company where we bought the wood told us it was already for 1,5 year drying, so the bark would remain the same he said.
Hopefully, you will have better luck than me.
I guess the only way to keep the bark on permanently is to cover it in epoxy, yes?
We saw on some other video's also people doing this, but we don't know of it works🤔
I tried that and it still came off. I suppose you could remove the bark and epoxy it back on! or flood the sides but it uses too much epoxy it would just be expensive. As I said it never worked for me but perhaps, different climate, different technique it might work.
seal the wood first the put the resin so it doesnt go in the holes.
We do this now with our new Epoxy projects😉
Jimmy just made something similar LOL
Yes we have seen that too!
Couldn't you make the stool a lil thinner and use lesser epoxy?
The company where we bought the wood didn't want cut it in half to prevent damage to the disk. It was our first time with Epoxy and we didn't know how much epoxy we need to use. So next time we use less 😉
Amaizing job👍
the cat's like..... "hey, only I get to scratch the epoxy!"
Haha yeah he like this table very much😁
hahahah good to know :)
