Geoff is a gateway drug to VoicePlay. You get lured in due to his obvious vocal insanity. Eventually you realize that every single member is a monster in their own right. Their second tenor can fill in the bass line, if Geoff is soloing. The beatboxer (who also did the arrangement for Oogie Boogie's Song, btw) has a range nearly identical to Geoff's- even greater if you count the notes he can produce using inhaled phonation. And you've picked a good time to get on board this crazy train; lately their arrangements keep getting almost exponentially better, and damned if their vocal capabilities don't keep making them look easy. On their most recent release (My Mother Told Me), I've already watched several reactors hit the end of the video and just pitch their headphones aside while shaking their heads, stunned utterly speechless. Oogie Boogie's Song waits until the end to spring its trap; My Mother Told Me destroys you about 30 seconds in. After that, there's nothing else to do but hold on for dear life.

This is it. This is exactly how it is. You get in for Geoff, then discover that he's not alone in the insanity of voice, and you stay for all of them.
Also, agreed completely on My Mother Told Me. It gets you after thirty seconds, and just sweeps you away. Maybe that should be her next reaction!

Mostly it's Geoff, (the bass whom you already seem to know :-) ), or Layne, (the beatboxer, glowing nose in this video), who does the arrangement for their songs. This one was Layne's arrangement. Recently Eli, (the 2nd tenor, wearing red in this video) did the arrangement for a song too, "Eleanor Rigby" (a Beatles cover). I enjoyed your reaction and agree with you, they're awesome! If you like the Nightmare Before Christmas movie (where this song is from), they've done more from it: "What's this", "This is Halloween" and "Kidnap the Sandy Claws". But I really like everything they do :-).

You need to check out their newest song - My Mother Told Me. It's Voiceplay featuring a singer from Rockapella. It's another showcase of Geoff that will blow you away. It also shows off Eli (pronounced Ellie), who is the bald one. He is their tenor and has an amazing rock voice. He also does crazy good character voices - he's actually the voice of Santa in this Oogie Boogie video, but you can't even tell it's his voice. (The actor playing Santa is actually Geoff's brother in law.) They do all their own productions and everything, including the arrangements and filming.
Another classic one to check out is their The Little Mermaid Medley. Geoff is a standout in that as well.

The fun part is that is not even the lowest Geoff can get. Geoff and Tim have to limit what they do on studio recordings to not have to replace damaged expensive equipment so to hear them go all out you have to go to a live show.
There are a few videos of Tim damaging speakers during live shows if you look around but even those videos you don't get the full effect as the phones used to record them can't get all the bass they can put out.

So rare that the majority of the bass aren't true bass but they get the job done but can't do vocal acrobatic in that register. True bass slap the 1st octave around like it's a joke.

So, speaking on how geoff sounds like a baritone and can pass as a tenor: he classifies himself as a baritone with a bass range. His normal singing voice is generally higher than what you normally hear, since he sings bass in voiceplay and he's singing to his role. I've always said that among Avi, Geoff, and Tim Foust, Avi is a true bass, since his normal singing sits well within the bass classification and he has that deeper, warm tamber, where as Geoff and Tim are baritones who have access to really low bass notes. Geoff and Tim are more versatile because of their range, but Avis bass is unmatched imo.

Geoff is amazing and his range is stellar (though I love his "I'm the Oogie Boogie Man" rock out moments). You must watch this recent releases My Mother Told Me and Hoist the Colours. But also check out their other work (especially their medleys) and Geoff's own channel. His Misty Mountains Cold (the dwarves song from the Hobbit) also showcases his range as he harmonizes with himself.

Geof is the god of vocal basse and he is amazing vocal actor. You should see " The Little Mermeid Medley" by Voiceplay... Geof as Ursula is insane ..and blue. All singers in this group are great but Geof is my favorite. In " My mother told me" he is using something like mongolian overtune singing, it make that my chills have chills. I've just subscribed your channel so :" please don't fail me now"..☺️👍. By the way: you also should listen to " The drug in me is you- reimagined " Falling in Reverse. I guarantee that you will cry ..Best wishes to you.

I’ve listened to most of their songs and they definitely have a style all their own, which is cool. Geoff is a phenomenal bass but I personally think they focus a bit too much on him in most of their songs. I’m all about the musical blend when it comes to a cappella. Super talented group though and we all have our own personal tastes. Enjoyed your reaction very much! 😊🎵

Don't agree. 10 million Acapella groups that don't Stand out. The three top of the heap, the last 10 years, all had prominent basses. It's new, it's the thing. But I accept taste

@@kenmurray8476 100% agree that a good bass is extremely important in a cappella but it’s just my personal opinion that it shouldn’t be the main focus. Again, totally a personal preference but I much prefer Pentatonix and their blend. (Both with Avi or Matt.) I think it’s awesome that there’s a little something for everyone’s musical taste in a cappella.
