    Another really good video! Being a strong empath my senses are out of this world and some have called it a curse and some a blessing . For me it has it's ups and downs . Think about this.. if I see a person in for example, a store and they are grieving over the loss of a loved one , I feel the pain they feel and even tho I can control it on the outside well , I think you get it. I also sense goodness and that's what I get from you and Blake and when I feel like sitting back and relaxing I've found your channel to be my go to. Be safe and you already know that no video is worth life.

    My Dad and I are hiking the Kalalau on either the 25th or 26th of May (this month, either 9-10 days from now). It will entirely depend on the weather window we are given as to which day we will go. My Dad and I have ran/hiked this trail 5 times in the last 15 years and it is a tradition we look forward to. We got insanely lucky with permits this time because they sold out immediately. We somehow got two because of a random cancelation in the middle of the day. For years we never bought passes because we never camped, but now they are very strict and will fine you. Im glad they are cracking down on this because people were hiding/squatting at Kalalua and the caves/overhang past the falls the the end of the beach. It sickens me how people can leave trash at a place as beautiful as this. It is truly a spectacular place. Im glad this place it hard to get to. All the boats and helicopters now ruin a bit of the awe, but I still love it.
    We always do the full 22 miles in one day and it is absolutely brutal. The last time we ran it we were able to swim around to Honopu Beach. Conditions were just right and the swell and the long shore rip was essentially non-existent. I do not recommend this unless you have fins and conditions are perfect. You would 100 percent die doing this with the ocean conditions you guys experienced. Im glad you guys had a wonderful experience on the trail.

      @OnTodaysAdventure  Před 2 lety

      We will not be on island those dates but it's going to be awesome. You sound super experienced with the trail and I am glad they are becoming strict again too. Unfortunately people even with permits can treat the area poorly. It's becoming popular again so you guys will probably see a bunch of hikers out there!

      @snarkysifu Před rokem +1

      I appreciate + agree with your feelings about the trash, but...
      As someone who lived out there, my fellow outlaws (not the county) were responsible for regularly boating out countless loads of trash, as well as fixing + maintaining the trail - especially during the winter, when the trail is the worst and not maintained by the county.🌞🌈🦥🖤...

    the Kalalau trail depends on the weather, it shouldn't be neither too rainy, nor too sunny. If it is partially cloudy and raining lightly you will win. Otherwise it will be too difficult to complete one round trip in one day and keep in mind that this island is in the middle of the Pacific ocean and weather can change in few minutes the same as the stream current (flash flood)

      As a relatively experience alpinist I'm not sure if you want light rain. Because dust and light rain turn rocks into slopes.

    • @OnTodaysAdventure
      @OnTodaysAdventure  Před rokem

      If you want to fly yourself (we did not), it depends on where you are. FAA controls airspace on Kauai where there are hundreds of helicopter tours everyday so it can be complicated. The rules on Kauai are similar to other placr in the US

    Butttt, I really recommend the Hanakoa Falls. You can do it abd come back in one day and the view is amazing.

    This is the best video that I have seen of this hike! My boyfriend and I landed tickets for 3 nights, but our friends only landed a ticket for 1 night. We are debating trying to do it in one night so that we can stay with them. What are your thoughts on only having one night there? Crawler's ledge looks terrifying and I hope that I can do it. I keep reading people talk about the "mud ledge" after Crawlers being the scariest/ most dangerous part. I haven't been able to find video footage of this... Do you happen to know what they may be talking about? Thank you so much for sharing!

    • @OnTodaysAdventure
      @OnTodaysAdventure  Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much, that means so much to us ❤️
      I would highly suggest you still use your 3 nights and they can meet up with you if they make it all the way to Kalalau Beach. It definitely is a once in a lifetime hike that you shouldn’t skip out on just because not everyone in your party has the same permit dates.
      I agree completely, crawlers really isn’t that bad and the sections just after are far more scary IF it’s rainy. Don’t head out if a big storm is coming! Those parts are very easy dry but extremely slippery when wet and muddy. In the video where we are on crawlers there are a few shots that look like red dirt, that’s the section that is directly after the rocky bit that is famous.
      I hope this info helps!

    2:30 Slight correction: visitors DO NEED to get a day-pass/permit (pay to enter state park & permit for parking) to access Haʻena State Park & thereby to hike Hanakaps beach/falls.
    If however you have permits to hike Kalalau, the day-pass fees are included in that fee.
    Either destination, book EARLY. Bc visitors need to buy these day passes in-advance & just like Kalalau permits, they sell out fast.

    • @OnTodaysAdventure
      @OnTodaysAdventure  Před 2 lety

      Good point! This is true I forgot you get Haena passes with Kalalau. Definitely book early! The permit system is always tough to get them but SO worth it!

  • @frankfowlkes7872

    I have hiked several places where there are ledges like this but not for as long as this appears. These places also tend to have ropes or metal wire to hold on to offer additional support. I don't see this on the Kalalau. Is there a reason there are no supports?

    • @OnTodaysAdventure
      @OnTodaysAdventure  Před rokem

      There are a few sections with rope that you can hold on to but not during the rocky part of crawlers ledge. That area of the trail tends to get swept away after a big storm so its hard to maintain.

    • @kristianandres7647
      @kristianandres7647 Před rokem

      Also the ledge is quite wide and much less intimidating than most cameras make it look. It’s very solid footing. I ran it and didn’t realize I had passed crawlers ledge until I got to the beach.

    You CANNOT use soap and conditioner (only biodegradable soap) in the water fall, please read the signs there. I was so pissed off when I saw a guy literally foaming himself from top to bottom and all foam went down to the beach into the ocean :( and I am pretty sure that he is driving a Prius or some other ECO-car to "save" the nature.

      This might sound crazy but many people do the trail barefoot and even fully nude! I met a few people that specifically went barefoot for the parts before and after Crawlers Ledge because they felt they got more traction in the mud with their bare feet!

    Thank you for this video 𝒂𝒏𝒅 for not giving away any specific secrets of the valley🤙🏾...
    I used to live out there and I was looking for a good video (of the trail and the valley) to show one of my spiritual students this magical place I keep talking about...
    I only had a flip phone & occasionally a disposable camera, so few pics of my life/hOMe exist + words cannot come close to capturing Kalalau
    ...so your video is great, especially because it shows big pool and the garden 𝐛𝐮𝐭 it doesn't give away the secrets/special gifts that are revealed/received in person (frOM the island through her people... like your being taken to the garden). Thanks again...
