    Its funny cause the bootleg scene here in mexico has gotten more and more competitive lately, some of the artisans makig them have improved the quality of their products A LOT. Like, the detail painting has gotten actually GOOD in some cases. Considering the origin of the figures, it´s weird but not unexpected that they are being produced with some really cheap materials.

    I customized one of these figures last year and I can say the paint is definitely toxic, I sanded down the paint in certain areas to get rid of the mold marks and smooth the surface and the paint dust made me feel dizzy and made my skin itch for months! however after repainting and coating the entire figure it became safe to touch and pose, so yeah, be careful with that paint.

      Yeah, they got lead. You get intoxicated by it if you eat it or if you inhale it. Because you sanded it, particles got into the air.

    Hey, mexican living in México here
    I can give a bit more of information about mexican bootlegs in general
    These are a very local production that has been going for years, even since the past century, first starting with lucha libre characters, theres a very iconic mold that every mexican kid had.
    Only a few sculptors are known, and with them you can see how some of these pieces are made.
    The sculptors really love to create their own monster designs like the twisted animatronics, in general, there was a time that a lot of fusions between ben 10 aliens were made, those were dope btw. I believe that the reason of these are the Alebrijes, mythic creatures from the mexican culture that are basically a mix of a lot of animals in only one with funny colors.
    Ive never heard something about these provoking some toxic incident, so they arent dangerous.
    I could do some more local research if youd like to

    • @SplatRat30L

    • @emilianoortiz8795
      @emilianoortiz8795 Před 11 měsíci +50

      Nah man the Alebrijes have nothing to do with it. They get the info wrong when doing them because they don’t care. They might find some fanart and just make a mold because it’s the first thing they found.

      Mi amigo, buen resumen, yo recuerdo tener y ver en el mercado las figuras de ben 10 que mencionas, con aliens que ni existían o eran combinaciones entre ellos, lo chistoso de los bootlegs de fnaf es que algunos se ven mejores que los oficiales de funko

    • @coffee-ouji
      @coffee-ouji Před 11 měsíci +37

      I think it's mostly the online bootlegger's figurines sold that have lead because I also remember seeing figurines like that (with the amount of detail and everything) locally and never heard of a story or case made on toxic materials from those bootlegs. I haven't seen them in a few years tho', but that's probably because I haven't gone to a toy shop in a while.
      also, I believe it's other sellers buying the blanks in mass and making them with lead paint to sell online to other countries(?) just speculation

I remember one time we visited we went to a market out in the open to find stuff and someone was selling fnaf stuff. This was like a year after sister location and we bought a funtime freddy figure. The jaw hinged and his faceplates actually worked, showing the endo (kind of a shame we broke one of them off) he had a light up button and was very vell sculpted. I don't think he was actually painted but rather colored material which I can guess wasn't poisoned since we always played with him but he never smelled or felt weird to the touch. And just in any case if you are worried about the lead on the figure its mostly for the materials the are made and i have see in person how they are made so yeah the lead can be for the plastic since is straight up melted plastic put into molds so is just bare bones plastic the painting as well most of them are painted with just acrylic paint and actually probably the smell/lead and gross touch of the figure is because probably a coat of transparent lacquer spray paint and your figure was probably a recently made one so that can also explains why the accessories were stuck sticky into the bag it came but yeah hope that answers the lore of Leadbear!!!

      Lead is toxic to humans in all sorts of ways. Women in the 1800s would use it as makeup, causing smallpox, scars etc. They would use more to cover said scars and lead poisoning was a major cause of death back then. Not saying that's the case for some fnaf bootlegs lol but just pointing out how lead isn't only dangerous when consumed

    I understand putting awareness in the “dangers of buying bootlegs” but you did kinda demonize the entire Mexican Toy Market
    In countries with limited resources like Mexico, these bootlegs are just an affordable alternative to high end collectibles that don’t make it over there. These artists don’t have any resources that big companies have so the fact that they can make custom toy molds from scratch is impressive.
    Those toys are there for people who have limited resources and low incomes an option to have a toy as part of their childhood
    So it seems a little bit unfair to bunch every single Mexican Toy Manufacturer in the category of “people who make illegal toys that are poisonous” when most of them are independent artists who do this by hand

    2:56 emalvido's description could ALSO be read as "If you are looking for figures ask me.", which I think was the intention. Since they are the ones *selling* figures and (to my knowledge) not buying collections of their own- I think that's more likely.

    DAMN, well guess some of these do contain lead , i live in Mexico and its super common to see these since as you probably know, funko doesn't distribute practically nothing fnaf here, in fact I've never seen any fnaf figure in stores, so these are the only alternative and since they are pretty robust they are nice for kids since most bootlegs paint isnt really a problem , now yes these are hand sculpted with some having nice detail ,some using reference images, wich that's how you sometimes end with odd looking ones or fanart based ones , they are hand painted and are made all through Mexico so that's how you get all the different quality and variants and paint since its not like there's a rule to how they need to be manufactured , most are made in homes and then sold on streets, tianguis (markets) or Mexican websites like mercado libre, always advertised as Mexican bootlegs, so they don really try tricking you into the fact that these are real, or most dont, in fact here in Mexico they dont get in legal problems so yeah, i have owned 4 fnaf bootlegs and like 9 bendy ones , and one i own for at least 7 or 6 years and to be honest I've never had any problems with them yet be careful with some of the cheap ones, there's different sizes and lines, since yes these are actually made as part of a line to be consistant with one and other and the molds do get constantly updated yet it takes longer to see them since they need to distribute the molds or figures, as a plus, the odor fades away after some days, if you dont want to wait or risk it just wash them a couple times and it disappears, idk if its toxic but i personally havent had problems and i personally kinda find it nostalgic in a way , yet i do understand your concerns of it being toxic, so overall be careful since tho im pretty sure they aint that toxic by experience and most paints aint toxic (and the fact that most kids in mexico arent in a hospital or dead) some of the cheap ones can be really crappy in terms of the paint rubbing off and plastic and also dont overpay on ebay since these retail in mexico for 5 to 15 ,i hope this kinda answers some of your questions and nice video

    I know sombody said this should of been canon to the universe were they get sued for it, an idea is mayby why the pizzaplex closed is because some of the things there like merch and toys may have had lead and when they escaped the police went to investigate the missing kids but smelled somthing weird. And it was lead, then the police sued the place shutting it down. I mean if this was true they could take the bootleg and replace them with the real and have you as the police who made a tape explaining these merch.
