  • Trailer Lights Adapter Connector 7 Pin To a 4 Pin Connector. Bought a new truck and found a different trailer lights plug on the truck. It was a 7 pin plug and all my trailers have a 4 pin connector. Thought I would have to rewire something?? Then I found an adapter plug available for 6-7 dollars . Easy Fix.

So this is hilarious! Thank you so much for your video. I was out in the dark this morning about to actually cut the wires off my four pin plug to wire it into the adapter (had no idea it was an actual adapter), when I thought to myself, "You're clueless, go find a CZcams video." When you got to the part in your video about just plugging it in, I started dying laughing to myself at 5:30am in the morning. What a DUH! Moment....thanks!

They fit too loose and most will not work. I have a trailblazer and the Hopkins adapter does not work; it fits way to loose and literally falls out.

Man, I see videos of people pulling out wiring diagrams and cutting all kinds of stuff under their truck just for this. "I know there has got to be an adaptor for this. What in the world are these people doing?"

My Chevy Silverado has both. The problem is that only the left turn signal works. No break lights and no right turn signal on either the 4way or the 7 pin. My truck has less than 3000 miles and I bought it with 17 miles on it! I checked the fuses and they are good. The dealership wanted to schedule an appointment to look at it TWO WEEKS from now. They said I may have to leave it with them for a week to ten days! How am I supposed to tow a trailer in the meantime? Why does this dealership have such lousy service?

Find another dealership. That is bull for them to need it that long.

Did you get it fixed, and who did it, how much?
I tested my 7 pin connector, although I have a much older Chevy, but I used one of those standard voltmeters and was able to read the voltage off of each pin.

Can you use that if the truck has a 4 pin and trailer had 7 pin ?

I have the same question. Does anyone know the answer? I realise that some functionality will be lost.

The answer is no, because you would need a 7 pin receptacle to a 4 pin connector.

Could you provide a link to the adaptor that you found? Thanks!
