- Hamish Imlach's version of the traditional song "Lang Johnny Moore". It can be found on the 1971 album "Old Rarity"
The band for the sessions was:
Hamish Imlach (vocals, guitar)
Archie Fisher (mandola, banjo, concertina)
Iain MacIntosh (whistle, banjo, concertina)
Tam Harvey (pedal steel guitar, acoustic guitar)
John MacKinnon (fiddle, mandolin)
Mike Whellans (harmonica, percussion)
This is the best version of this song. I don’t feel Hamish gets the credit he is due!
A wonderful ,hearty rendition!
Just stumbled on this version on a record in the house tonight. Like Alexander Strandberg says, it's quite a moving version and well sung, Hamish is too often brushed off as a bit of a joker. This is a real instance of him using his story telling prowess to give a great rendition of this tune.
Fantastic.
Oh Scotland, you used to send giants to London to tell the English what is what. And look at u now...
