That's what this lesson is all about, showing you the step-by-step approach to soloing so you can express yourself on the piano whenever and wherever with confidence.
BONUS - Not only will this video break down precisely what you need to know to approach a solo, but it will also allow you to improvise on the piano easily! These two concepts are intrinsically linked so as you learn one you are learning the other at the same time.

Lisa: I don't know how to solo.
Also Lisa: Plays a solo like a pro 💜💜
So inspirational, thank you ❤️❤️
Wonderful lesson. One other thought: add ‘pauses’ occasionally in solo; say, for 2 or 3 beats (or even longer). It gives the soloist a chance to ‘breathe’ and for the listener, it is a refreshing break from unending eighth and quarter notes.
good one!
I love sitting down to my keyboard and seeing what musical patterns the universe has in store for me. You both are so good at teaching and inspiring. ✨
Lisa. It's so cute watching you think you don't know what you're doing.
I wish I couldn't solo the way you think you can't solo.😄
I am expected to solo at church during the prayer but I am always terrified! Thank you for this!
I started researching improvisation about 5 years ago because I just wanted to play without sheet music. I thought people who improvised had magical talent I didn't possess. What I've learned is great improvisation happens in the practice room. Many stories of the great improvisers tell they spent several years practicing hours each day developing their improvisation skills.
Same for me the pianote CZcams channel is one of the best piano tutorials u can take online 👍
I'm more terrified on playing with a band because the noise of the other instruments makes me not be able to think about what note should i hit next, and etc.
You unlock the “magic” secrets of playing the piano with the best smile.
I was wondering what notes work together for so long. You guys are ahead of the game! I really appreciate you guys!!! Thank you! 😊😊😁😁
Oh & btw congratulations for Lisa Witt for being a piano teacher & vocal coach & singer songwriter & I’ll leave a link about my favorite singer songwriter John Newman about yyy he decided to make a song to express himself to his career!👍
I really love this teacher student dynamic. It gives you a chance to explain while you demonstrate
Awesome Sam and Lisa, Awesome Pianote!!! ❤️
Wooooow! What a wonderful video, it's full of so much knowledge. Team Pianote, you people are doing a commendable job!
You guys are so awesome and enjoyable to watch and learn from. I am so glad I became a member on your website. I am learning and having so much fun! You guys are very motivational.
Hahahaha Lisa says “ out of body experience” too cute! Love it!
Much needed spirit therapy. Thank you!
That was cool !!! ... I just call it "Creative Noodling"...and I keep at it until something "GELS".... then the problem is REMEMBERING IT later. Thank goodness for software, or recorders...
Always great stuff, Pianote !!! Always fun.

This was such an awesome video! So great to see you both having fun while learning too. I want to be able to do this! Could you create another video with patterns and rhythms for different moods?
Really great lesson, you make the learning appearance so easy that there is no tension for beginners.
Nice! Love seeing you guys work out! My teacher always told me to start with a small motif or riff and work off of it to start! Then you have to relax and run a track and go....:)
Thank you guys
Love you guys 🤗💗
What a fun to learn piano with you guys 🤣
Learning to play guitar made me realize how comparatively difficult the piano is to solo well on. I think it's because of how straightforward the piano is--no bends, no vibrato, no way to change the basic sound. Synths and organs aren't so bad, but good phrasing on piano is a real challenge--it's very barebones in a way that forces you to have really excellent fundamentals.
'Love u guys! You're part of my daily streaming routine. 💕
yay! thank you :)
I love piano...but Im now 31 y'old and just got myself a 61 kesy keyboard..now I am practising as a beginner at this time..It couldn't stop me,keep on playing whatever notes just to memorizes all the notes..today is my Day3,have fun with it..
This was super helpful, thank you! I'm trying to get away from hammering chords on the piano while singing to it, but find it very hard to vary rythm, other than the simple every or every other 4/4 tact. Any tips on improving on this topic?
Wow...awesome....👌👏👏😍👍👍💛
Hi Sam and Lisa, thank you for a very good tute.
I am very much a beginner when it comes to soloing. What I have found to be of a huge help is to have a good strong rhythm /and beat. Eg bass and cymbal. Many digital keyboards have a built in rhythm function with rock or jazz which help lead one to feeling their way into soloing. ‘Irealpro’ which is downloadable has rhythm functions also.
Listen to other pianists on. Eg pieces like ‘Autumn Leaves and ‘So What’.
As Sam says know the key of the piece that you are practicing and be familiar with the major and minor scales.
There are lots of tutorials that teach licks. Many are available to free download.🤗
It is soooo fun to just watch this! How wonderful it would be to actually play it!?!!!
you can do it!!
Fabulous 👏👏👏
I love all ur videos
Interesting approaching this from the point of view of an ex guitarist. My keyboard skills are rubbish but jamming to a chord progression on keys I find reasonably easy. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that keyboard players are usually good music readers while guitarists are notoriously bad at reading music and have to learn to play listening to the notes to make sure they work.
I wish I could snap my fingers like Sam 😄 so strong and loud 👌🏼
Pianote,
A sincere request
I would you to make a video on Canon in D
I have been trying for months but haven’t mastered it, in addition to it I also get only weekends for the lessons......
PLEASE
Was only doing 3 space. Left and right.
I’ve been playing the sax for almost 6 years which isn’t that much but idk and I started to really like the piano and wondering which one I should get. I’ve been doing research but I can’t really tell which one I should buy
Super ❤️❤️👍👍
Great tutorial! Would like to download the backing track, but it throws a XML error page :/
Are there any books on right hand improv patterns? Not just jazz riffs! That's all I can find when I search.
I am not coordinated or smart enough to do this. You are good!!!
just takes a little time and practice :)
She a very good actor.
If Lisa can play her first piano solo in front of the entire internet, I can practice this in front of my mother. I don't even have a super strict or perfectionist mother, so I really don't know what I'm afraid of. XD
Do you do requests? Theres a song i would like to learn but no tutorials for it
All notes sound good together in the right context. Lest we play boring music.
wow its extraordinary performance 💜💜💜
so amazing... genial peace for me
really...🤍🤍🤍

Good acting lisa
What’s the difference between soloing and improvising ?
Soloing is based on a particular pattern according to the scale you use. Soloing can be planned before hand Improvising is a freestyle thing. It's spontaneous and right on the spot. Improvisations can be solos too. You can do both at the same time.
@@musicman8938 Thank you sir 🎶🙏
@@missrjensen2352 You're welcome!
Lisa “I’m scared to solo”… then crushes the second solo pattern lol
typical lisa :P
Hey guys the PDF chord chart link doesn't work. I get an error message. Thanks for all you do!
