Imagine how it would feel to be the stepmom who was lied to about getting married, and suddenly from the way her step kids are talking, it sounds like they want her to go away, and her husband is maybe/maybe not implying he would rather be in a relationship with his original wife. She's gonna be thinking that she is being abandoned by the family she wanted to be in.
The Mom and the Step Mom were both right when they both said their lives were taken away and also in the process of being taken away, due to the crazy situation they are in.
Put yourself in the step-moms shoes. To her the past decade of her life would have amounted to nothing all because of the crazy situation they are all in. If the dad chose the original mom, while she did lose the past 15 years, still has her kids and the husband who cares about her, relationship or not. However the Stepmom would likely cut ties with the family she "married into", and the kids would probably end up having nothing to do with her despite the fact she was the mom that had raised them for the past 5 to 10 years.
