After a while Hadhrat Abu Bakr arrived in the mosque and addressing the people he recited the verse from the Holy Quran:
“Muhammad is only a Messenger. Verily, all Messengers before him have passed away. If then he dies or be slain, will you turn back on your heels?”
He said, “One who worshipped Muhammad should know that he has died and one who worships Allah should know that He is alive and will never die.” Hadhrat Umar heard this, realised his mistake and wept bitterly.
