the trailer shows so much because it's not about how they get out it's about the recovery and life after
But when you first watch the movie, without the trailer, you will enjoy the excitement of them trying to get out :P
Agreed, I went into this blind. I didn't even know whether they would get out, let alone that it would be so early in the film, and that most of the content would take place afterwards. I think if I had had that information going into the film, it would have been a much less tense and rewarding experience.
i watched it without seeing the trailer. i was at the edge of my seat throughout the first half of the movie. seriously trailer ruins too much
I agree that it is probably more interesting to watch it without seeing this, but I watched it after the trailer and I was still shaking because of the tension and somehow felt nervous even knowing they got out
it didn't ruin anything for me personally
Gabrielle
For the first half of the movie Room didn't seem so small, but it's crazy how veryyy small it looked when they went back at the end to say goodbye. Ma was so strong to be able to raise Jack in such captivity and try to give him a normal life. This movie was so touching.
i think that's the saddest part when you realize room was big enough for him room was his world
@@delphforbasics8512 True. It was sadder when Jack missed Room and wanted to go back
I just seen the movie today years later and it was a great movie. Amazing! And yeah, the room was small as heck when they went back but I’m assuming they had a secondary room to have the cameras and the actors all in one place.
@@angellll357 cause that’s all he knew. It was simple times for him even though it was a hell for the both of them.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!! 😂
I can't be the only one who was SOO tense and nervous when they did their escape. I thought it was gonna fail and they were gonna be killed
Yeah. Especially since there was a 1 hour left in the movie

I was begging in my head for him to scream help before nick pulls him away
The scene where she's interviewed by a TV station interviewer pissed me off. I mean c'mon asking her why she didn't getting out sooner and stuff; hello... she was held captive and was threatened by an evil man!
I agree. I thought that journalist was way out of line with her questioning. If I had been the victim, I would have stopped the interview right then and there. The journalist was coming across more like an interrogator rather than an interviewer. The audacity of her to assume that the victim should have trusted her abductor|rapist to do right by her baby and leave him off somewhere to be found? LOL. Because we all know abductors|rapists are such morally upstanding citizens who can be trusted. Was the journalist really stupid enough to think the captor wanted to risk being seen dumping a newborn infant off somewhere? Plus, the implication that the victim was "selfish" enough to keep her own baby with her, a baby she was forced to have, was just over the top. What that reporter did was subtle victim shaming, arrogantly pretending as if she knew what was better for the child within such unnatural circumstances.
@@heathergraham2581 exactly subtle victim shaming. 😡
It felt like that woman was “judging” Joy for how she raised Jack
daphnee paul he still could have threatened her without a gun. Like when Jack came out of the wardrobe and she yelled at him not to touch Jack. He chocked her and almost killed her. He also said “Talk to me like that again and I’ll kill you” His physical state, being bigger and stronger than Joy, was threatening enough to make her stay in that room. Not only that but keeping Jack safe.
Is that movie copycat from the true story of amanda berry and areal castro
The boy that played Jack was so amazing, love the movie, it's so touching and beautiful, Jack is her strength and she is his, they kept each other strong during their captivity by that wacko

This was a phenomenal movie. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I loved how they told the story through Jacks' eyes. Brie Larson's performance was breathtaking. I would highly recommend watching it.
It really gave off that Tumblr post vibe. Wait! They just had a good ending. Everything's resolved! Why is there so much time left?! What's gonna go wrong? Something horrible obviously!! Aaaaa....
I knew Brie Larson was a star the first time I saw her work.
I am a lifetime fan. Young boy was superb as well!
Boring movie must have been a mishap when they gave her a Oscar the film was so unoriginal it was torturous to watch.

I am so glad that I watched the movie **before** seeing this trailer. I did not know if they would get out, or if the whole movie would be them in that room. As I watched, I was thinking of how they might escape, and was surprised by the method that she chose. I had no idea if the escape attempt would be successful, which made it very suspenseful. If I had seen this trailer, the movie would not have been as powerful as it was for me.
+larrydirtybird EXACTLY! i came here after watching the movie and omg, it was such an experience.
+larrydirtybird totalmente de acuerdo. Saludos desde Venezuela. Esta peli merece OSCAR A MEJOR PELÍCULA.
It was a conscious effort on the director's part to show them escaping in the trailer. Lenny Abrahamson said it himself. The film isn't about Joy's captivity. It's about the mother son relationship above everything else, and it's not a "Will they escape?" thriller.
So? It was a plus we had that thriller vibe
siii

The better part of this book is about adapting to the outside world. If the trailer was just them in the room it would've felt incomplete. The story isn't centered on their escape, it is about their adjustment to life after it.
+meghananne100
since over half the book takes place Outside, it was good of them to present the trailer this way c:
+meghananne100 The movie is extremely close to the book, including the after. The book author wrote the screenplay.
+meghananne100 but still, they shouldnt have shown it because some parts didnt feel as good after watching the trailer like the boy's escape doesnt have as much tension because the trailer shows they escape.
Medhaav Mahesh
if you didn't know they escape, you might feel disappointed when the movie turns out to be less about them escaping and more about them adapting to the outside world
Kissed by Dirt i have seen the movie and i know what it is about. bu the escape scene would have had more tension.
People are hella bipolar. I see all these comments about how they Love Brie, then after Captain Marvel, everyone wants to talk about how "bad" she is.
@The Kid from Ironman 3 I agree. I personally liked the movie but her speaking phrases so fast is kinda off. Some of the scripts too.
It’s because of her crap politics
Eia T. It’s not Brie’s fault it’s the writers for writing captain marvel like that. Brie is a phenomenal actress and deserves much more in the sequel
The Kid from Ironman 3 she didnt say anything racist. she said movie critics should be more diverse and have more equal opportunity for marginalized people to review material made towards them/their community instead of having mostly white critics criticizing and poorly rating content that they may not socially/culturally understand. people (mostly those white men) took this out of context and wrote misleading headlines about how “brie hates white men”, when in reality she never said that nor did she know that thats why shes getting so much hate (and death threats to the point she cant leave her house without security). theres an interview where someone asks her about it, and it’s revealed how twisted her words were taken out of context. also if you read the original interview, she said nothing racist. she just wants equality and diversity in the media industry- just like tom holland and rdj has recently (and in the past) have stated.
The Kid from Ironman 3 fact is when people generalize “men” its because the majority outweighs. also generally, people are able to contextually distinguish between “men” meaning all males and the dudebros and neckbeards and white misogynists. its not my fault you can’t.
Brie and Jacob are both amazing an actor/actress, they couldn’t have casted this movie better
I don't get it...everyone seems to be so upset claiming that the trailer ruins the movie when in reality this is how the movie is suppose to play out. I read the book and about 1/3 of the book talks about the room...the rest of it is about life OUTSIDE of the room. This is what the author wanted. To portray the way life is once Jack escapes the room and seeing how he adapts to the world.
I saw the movie yesterday without knowing anything about it. Then today I saw this trailer. The commenters are right. This trailer gives away the whole movie, which could cause some to not watch it, because they already know what is going to happen, that they get free. I'm glad I didn't know anything about it, because I was captivated so much I was balling my eyes out throughout the whole movie. I'm still emotional about it a day later, and probably will be for a while. That's how great this move is. It draws you in, especially the way that Jack describes his world, both in the Room, and outside the Room.
@@chapmaned24 It didn't give away everything, I'd say. If you're really that obsessed with being in the dark, this may disappoint you, but on the whole, I don't think they were trying to hide the fact that they got out. It's still intense how it happens without the trailer, but since it was about not the escape near the end, I think it's arguable that the trailer gave you everything you needed. Nobody said that Larson's character actually struggled after the fact. Only one line of dialogue actually hints that this happened in this trailer.
@@thefirstbourne149 This movie had a profound emotional response for me, cuz I got onto a torrent site to find Room 1408, and found this instead. Room 1408 was about Ghosts haunting a hotel room, and I thought that this movie would be in like manner, so I watched it without realizing it's content, which was totally different from what I expected, a scary ghost story. So, based on emotion alone, I'd rather not see this trailer, otherwise, I might not have cried so much. I would have expected what the trailer showed, and not been so emotional.
chapmaned24 But that was a genre where you’re supposed to be worried about what happened next. Here, you already know what happened and the more suspenseful sequence is supposed to make you realize how hard it is rather than be scared that they aren’t going to make it out of that Room. There are times you should know what they’re trying to do rather than just what you think they’re trying to do. It helps to watch the trailer to know what you’re getting into and compare it to the movie that you see they’re trying to make. In this case, they marketed exactly what they wanted you to see, so it really doesn’t make sense to keep saying that the trailer ruined the film if both teased and paid off the exact emotions you were meant to feel.
chapmaned24 Also, you picked a site for the wrong movie! That doesn’t count!
Watched Brie Larson in Short Term 12 and I'm so excited to watch this movie. She is a phenomenal actress!

A beautiful movie. It made me cry several times. It is not what I expected from a movie about rape and entrapment, instead it was something beautiful and touching. No matter what, Ma did everything she could to protect her child, and it was a heartwrenching thing to see how strongly they loved eachother and helped eachother. This movie made me realize that again, there is nothing stronger than a mother's love for her child and this movie portrayed that perfectly. It is also about how it's time to say goodbye to the things we once loved, and to go out and explore all the wonders life gives with the true love that resides inside you. That at some point in our lives, we must move on because there are better things waiting for us. I almost cried when the mother attempted suicide, but when she saw the love from her kid it kept her alive, and again it made me see how they both needed eachother. I was expecting something quite somber and dramatic, and it was dramatic, but dramatic in a hopeful and inspiring way to never give up. I am definitely showing this movie to my children when they are old enough, nothing gets you through anything more than love.

There’s so many emotions and thoughts that go through you. Still I can’t bare to watch it more than once every few years.
I like how the movie is not just about the escape plans, but also on the aftermath after they get their freedom.
Am I the only one who thought that the Kid was a Girl.??
+Marwin 1994 They specifically cast the actor for that reason. In the book people repeatedly mistook him for a girl after he got out. They didn't have any way to cut his hair in Room, but they do when they get out (it's a big event in the book, he gets really stressed by it I'm pretty sure).

+Seanh2k11 sorry I was just surprised hadn't seen her in a while , ??
+Grace Handy Gotta say that took me a while to realize she also plays Envy in Scott Pilgrim vs the World
+Grace Handy HOOT, Scott Pilgrim vs the world..
THE FACT THAT JACK PLAYED AUGGIE IN WONDER AMAZED ME I-
This movie always makes me cry
After watching this trailer I was unsure, it looked too forced and predictable. However, I read some comments saying to just watch it, don't think, watch.
And OMG! This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I never cry, and I cried throughout! Holy sxht, just watch it!!!!!
Buying the book tomorrow, the author is an absolute genius. The movie finished an hour ago and my throats still tight. Amazing!
Oh, hi Mark!
zeoxdragon who's Mark
Oh hey johnny, what's up?
haha! What a store remark.
Wrong film
I DID NOT HIT HER I DID NAAWWT
It was a good movie for me. I cried the whole movie. 10/10
watched this yesterday. One of the best movie’s I’ve seen in a while.
Not sure how I feel about this immediately spoiling the second half of the book. It's what makes the first half so intense--at least for me. Looks like a potentially solid translation to film, but there are some things a novel can do that a film simply cannot.
+sortilegus I agree! They gave away the fact that there is an eventual and successful escape!
+sortilegus I saw the film three times at TIFF and I can tell you for sure that it's so much bigger than what the trailer lets off. The film is just incredible. Oscar-worthy.
+sortilegus I understand why you would feel like they were giving away the second half of the book, but it is as crucial to the story as the first half spent in Room. They are forced to learn how to adapt to the new world and it is a key detail throughout the story.
+sortilegus I think its better they showed the second half because then it would have been another boring movie in one spot like Gravity -__- at least we know they're safe and get to see how they adapt
+sortilegus Yeah when I read the book I assumed it'd end with the escape, and was surprised the last 200 pages or so was about the adjustment to life after it. It made the novel really profound. You couldn't really read the book after seeing this movie it seems, or even the trailer.
Just this trailer makes me tear up. I keep coming back to watch it because it's so moving and captivating! One of the best performances by an actress AND a (kid) actor. Wow
this movie made me way too emotional and had me bawling my eyes out !! that little boy is a very good actor
The border around the title is a nice touch. Very mesmerizing film.
This is the most heart-breaking movie ever! Very Sad. I have never cried in my life as much as I cried watching this movie. I watched it a week ago and until this moment I can't stop thinking about it!!
Same here, just watched it last night and it still haunts me this moment! Jacob is truly a wonder child.
Haya A. Imraish what's there in the movie?... nothing interesting... last one hour of the movie I was expecting something thrilling
Jawahar Vedachalam it is not a typical crime thriller, but a drama about a relationship between mother and a child and child’s life in the room and in the real world
I only came here to see how many The Room quotes people had posted.
Goodbye Room !
I don't like it when people do that as they ruin it for those who didn't get the chance to watch the movie
For anyone watching the trailer on the fence, this is a really good movie! Watched the movie before the trailer and I'm glad I did. The escape was such a tense handful of scenes, I really wasn't sure if they'd make it (I didn't realize it was such a long movie!) A beautiful score with some incredibly sincere acting.
It’s so cool how they added so much detail in this movie. Like the boy had to grow out his hair to show how long he had been in the room for
her name is joy!!!
+TheLovelyLolipop I was really hoping we wouldn't know her name!
+charmedforlife well, in the ending credits of the movie. Brie Larson is credit as Ma (not her name Joy) so I guess the movie doesn't want you to know it
+Ben Jones why they wouldnt want us to know?
bbygrlpt2
That's a good question (I know it doesn't go this deep) My guess is that the movie is trying to put you in the shoes of Jack and Jack would never call his mother Joy. So, hence her being credited as Ma (stupid theory, I know)
+TheLovelyLolipop thats exactly what i thought too. i kept wondering after i finished the book
It's not true! I did not hit her! It's bullshit! I did not. Oh, hi, Mark!
You're just a chicken Cheep Cheep Cheep Cheep
Arturo Hernandez Lopez seth rogen and james franco doing it better now
Wrong movie
wrong movie
Arturo Hernandez Lopez You’re tearing me apart Lisa!
i am so glad i picked this movie.i appreciate the mother for trying to give her child normal life as much as she can.i appreciate her strength for every little thing she do but are very courage taking when u found your self in this situation .thank u for uploading it !!!
I watched this on Netflix boy I cried for ever
Never in my life did i cry on a movie like this I’m so glad it’s based of a novel not a real life story amazing movie watch it guys!
The novel itself inspired by the real life story which is waaaaaay scarier and heart wrenching.
Boy am I ever glad that I saw the film before this trailer. It gives too much away.
and everyone is saying she is a horrible actress. brie Larson is the perfect carol danvers aka captain marvel
I honestly think she sucks ass as Captain Marvel but I do think she’s a phenomenally talented actress
This movie literally left me with no words
