I agree that Miss Holden's portrayal was excellent but am not sure it was the inspiration for lesbian vampire films. Theda Bara likely is better suited for that designation for her roles as vamp & murderess in several silent movies.
Great film! I saw this film about a decade ago on Turner Classic Movies and is in my opinion one of the most misunderstood and underrated vampire films.
However, Gloria Holden would emerge as the REAL star of "Dracula's Daughter": a remarkable feature by Hollywood standards, I think. She was not like the "typical female movie star" of the 30s (and so on...). She had a most exquisite beauty, though: brown hair, brown eyes, olive complexion, 5'5" tall, 124 pounds weight. She was not like "Lugosi's daughter" (so to speak) either. She was very economical in poses and gestures: she used mainly that velvet voice and perfect diction she had.
Love the old trailers. Great film altogether. The original script called for Lugosi to reprise his role of Dracula in this film. Shame though he is replaced by a dummy in the opening scenes.
Gloria's looks had me spellbound, she was very attractive. Look very fast to spot her in the 1939s western Dodge City when her son is dragged by the runaway horses, she is seen screaming.
i kinda wanna c this. i love old movies like this, all thanks to my grandpa. he useed to stay in my basement and watch old movies like this. but he died. :'( i like watching these in his memory.
The late Anne Rice once put it best apropos of "Dracula's Daughter"- "it's beautiful and delocate- more than anything else I lved the portrayal of Dracula's daughter as the regretful creature who abhorred killing but was driven to it!

Otto Kruger was the nominal star of "Dracula's Daughter" (1936): he was 50 years old, a matinée idol since the 1920s, his career at its height when this film was produced. For crediting matters, I suppose Gloria Holden was just a non-entity compared to Otto.

Gloria Holden had a great look in this film, with those piercing eyes and high cheekbones. She looked sinister.

Loved this movie. Gloria Holden was very exotic and sensual. Not a blood and guts horror film and I like that about it.
I have to say that black and white movie's are most awesome and I love to watch them curl up with my hubby and watch them all night
