  • Today and yesterday, I went shopping for my Nun shoes as my mom likes to call them. Hope you have as much fun watching this as I had making it.

I love that you made a video finding nun shoes! It took me forever to find nun shoes when I entered. I had to have black sneakers, black flat shoes that were similar to guy's dress shoes but more comfortable, and black winter boots. :-)

They really should have a nun shoe store

There used to be a Catholic clothing store called Nalley's that carried nun clothes, guimps, coifs, nightgowns, robes, shoes, etc. But they went out of business. But you can google nuns clothes & come up with some places that have some neat stuff.

A good place to look for nun shoes is at a uniform shop where they sell nurses shoes & other "sensible" shoes. Also look for all black slippers & a robe for at night.

In the 1950s, our little coal town had several convents attached to churches. The churches had 3 priests and a deacon, too. Boys took turns being lectors. No girls allowed back then, before Vatican II. Occasionally, we'd see the sisters walking in pairs around the town running errands. Their shoes were the same as my grandmother wore. Black leather, lace up oxfords with squarish heels slightly higher than a man's shoe. Is day It was a bit of a holdover from Edwardian times, those orthopedic-looking, but sensible and long-wearing shoes. If the religious weren't too busy, we'd ask them about their lives. They were always polite, but disinclined to linger to chat...probably because 830th grade loomed ahead and the time of discernment before leaving Catholic school for public high school came just after the May Crowning. The Catholic high school opened the year after I graduated from high school.
