    Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the nation but hundreds of people have been killed by guns in the last few months.

      Would you not be able to pass a background criminal check? Are you on the no-fly list as a suspected terrorist? Do you own an AR15, and use it on a daily basis for activities besides shooting range and shoddy hunting?

      Lets see... Americans have 300million+ LEGAL weapons in this country with 12+ TRILLION rounds of ammunition. If they were an issue, I think we would all know about it. I hate to tell you, but most civilians are better trained than most Law Enforcement agencies. They dont have motivation not to use their guns because of training... Most genocides and conflicts in human history have all been done by trained people because they CAN oppress and beat the other guy due to their "training" which makes them actually more likely to impose themselves on those weaker.

    • @EdvinasPocius
      @EdvinasPocius Před 8 lety +7

      +Joseph Coles Washington Post reported 2.6 fatal police shootings a day in 2015 - the highest rate in last 2 decades. I don't see where that 'training' and 'extra motivation' comes in play... If anything, a civilian has a lot more motivation not to use his/her gun because we don't have a badge and a department to hide behind when we use our guns.

      +Gage Morgan the constitution is an old document with out of date principles. we have to go into it and ammend it, if it can be improved. in today's society, common sense gun laws are needed to keep the innocent people of this country safe. growing up in chicago, i have witnessed far too many news stories of young teenagers, students, children, even babies being victims of gun violence. this country needs action from our congress people to take a step to end the taking away of these young lives. i commend all of the representatives standing up and fighting to take action.

      @adrianm2chicago Před 8 lety

      +Gage Morgan i do not think i used the correct terminology then. the overall point i was trying to make is that we need some laws passed to help stop the gun violence. part of that would be to make fire arms harder to obtain, which is what these representatives are standing up for.

      ISIL without guns will be mobs of muslims with machetes, IEDS, and later stolen guns from government stockpiles (Or how "accidentally" dropping arms to the wrong rebels, cough cough Obama) How does the Mexican Cartel have arms when Mexico's gun laws are tougher than the fucking UK? How did the Paris shootings happen when France doesn't allow AK type rifles (Semi auto or full auto which was used) yet the terrorist still had AKMs all over the place?

    The issue they are addressing is not about removing guns, its about not allowing people in the "no fly" list (suspected terrorist) from purchasing guns and increased background checks. We do not allow suspected terrorist in planes for valid reasons, but we allow them to buy firearms freely in our neighborhoods? If those 2 concepts are too much for NRA fanatics then the safety of the public matters not to them.

    I don't see why a little bit of regulation is so bad. I think that having mental health exams for people before they buy guns would help screen a lot of people who would potentially use their gun to harm others. Maybe it could work like this: when you go for your annual visit to your doctor you can ask for a mental health exam. If you pass, then a stamp or a mark of approval that only doctors can have would be put on that person's license. Then that mental health exam would allow people to buy guns for a year. That person would need to get an annual mental health exam to continue buying guns or owning them. Gun vendors would be required by law that they check your license for that mark on the license. They would deny someone sale if they do not have that mark or if they are due for another mental health exam. I also think that prohibiting people on the terror watch list from buying guns would prevent incidents like the Orlando shooting from happening again.

  • @chartreux1532
    @chartreux1532 Před 8 lety

    I'm German and here we are also allowed to have semi-automatic .22 rifles (unlike what your countries Media might tell you about Germany or Austrias "Gun Laws").
    So banning semi-automatic "assault rifles" as you call them is not a solution at all as many US Democrats seem to think.
    Difference is, here only mentally-stable with a clean criminal record are able to own them (and from my perspective, usually only Ethnic Germans or well-integrated Migrants from close-by countries like France, England, Austria, Finland, Netherlands etc.).
    Now let me explain why implenting such measures in the USA would be completly useless and why your politicians can't compare countries like mine to the USA and copying laws does not apply.
    The USA:
    Your country has an integrated culture of guns, especially outside of the east and west coast big cities.
    Implementing tough gun controls for semi-automatic weapons as we have them in Germany would not have the same result at all, especially if you consider that a huge amount of your households already have weapons, many of them among people who should not have them yes, but they already do.
    Result:
    Even if you implement extremely tough gun laws in the USA right now, or the little one Rep. John Lews advocates for, you won't have any difference at all because most of your weapons are already in the hands of people who shouldn't have them.
    So whenever when your Democrats or Republicans like to bring up Examples from other countries and culture to draw a connection to the USA = BS
    Doesn't work that way.

    All he is asking for is background checks and 95% of people agree. Let's try not to hate with out fact. I am a gun loving Republican but I don't think ANYONE should be able to go to Wal-Mart and get a gun.

    What terrible replies here some of you should be so ashamed! Many racist and many blind here. John Lewis spoke at the same time as MLK during his I have a dream speech. You are looking and hearing a great civil rights leader I see so much disrespect for America here in these replies and no understanding what so ever of democracy. We have much educating to do on the constitution and on human rights dignity and non violence. Some of you should be ashamed.
