Yea and that's a discussion they needed to have before she ran. Not to defend Ray here but Debra did screw herself up overstepping how her running would have an impact on her entire household, especially given she would have expected Ray to support her unconditionally. Had they taken the chance to talk it through and Ray felt validated that his feelings and the feelings of his children mattered and that the wants and needs of ALL parties were being accounted for, as opposed to her saying "I'm doing this and you better back me up, and if you have a problem with that, YOU'RE not the grown up !", she wouldn't have been stabbed in the back by her own husband.
Fact is, Ray was silenced everytime he would have wanted to say something, and he couldn't have spoken to Debra about it without walking on eggshells. Yes there is some immaturity in that Ray was sloppy and not wanting to help out around the house. But he was also trying to protect his children from Debra being increasingly bossy and self-centered. He understood she wasn't really running in a bid to be more involved in her children's education but to bring attention to herself as someone who does so because she was accustomed to receiving that kind of praise from her own Dad whenever her Mom was self-absorbed in her own pain.
Voting for Bill Parker was the only outlet left for Raymond to have a chance to express his truth, and he believed in all fairness, that democracy rules the day, and that therefore, it was acceptable to him that he honor the voting choice that was authentic to him. At best, he could have offered a more dignified protest by casting a blank vote. That would have sent a clearer signal and been less of a betrayal.
And of course, Marie being a part of the couple and meddling without scruples is the real problem underneath it all. (Not to mention that Frank isn't exactly the best role model for Raymond...)
Ray voted against Debra because he didn’t want to help out with the responsibilities at the house and with the kids while she’s at the school.

Ray was a terrible husband for what he did, he didn’t vote for Debra because he didn’t wanna help out around the house. I saw this episode.

@@johnwalker8893 yup, the reason he’s like this is because of his mother, Marie always babied him his whole life, he had no real responsibilities, he takes after his father, where he feels that his only job is to work & pay bills, while Debra takes care of the house & kids.

@jonathan even what Ray did was stupid what Debra did was far worse telling people that she doesn’t know Ray now that is way too far even for her. Even Ray told her off on that and I was proud because it’s one of those rare times he actually lost it.

Not to say that Debra was in the right for saying she doesn’t know Ray, but he has to care how he acts in special events. Otherwise, people are going to have a negative view on him since he cares so much about being loved.

@victoria yea Ray does make excuses and yes he does make very stupid decisions but there are times where he is a good husband like when he lost his wedding ring and a girl hit on him but he said no and how about when he told Robert not to pretend to be Raymond.

I hate Robert. He acts like he's above everyone else, won't stop crushing over his sister-in-law, and a straight up energy vampire that thrives over other people's misery completely out of jealously.
Clearly u don’t watch the show, Robert is the most sympathetic character on the show, the reason Robert is the way he is because of Marie.
what are you talking about? He is a loyal brother, a good son, a caring uncle, and a gentle lover. His jealousy over Raymond is just superficial thing, he never harm anyone with it.

While I respect your opinion, I gotta say I disagree. Robert may be a pessimistic and all, but he's a great character. He's loyal to his family, works hard, and spends more time with the kids, the kids, than Ray. Not to mention, he's one of the few people that actually stands up for Debra. It be hard to imagine this show without him.
@@godzillamothra5983Let's not forget that despite his jealousy, he constantly supported Raymond, whether it was being the best man at his wedding, babysitting the kids, standing up to him against the sports writer. Robert did all that, but the one time he actually achieved something Ray threw a hissy fit.
