      @@angmori172 It would make the game much easier though. It's not balanced around this idea, Wasteland uses it's own proprietary system. BG3 uses 5E.
      I wish more failures had an interesting outcome like in Disco Elysium or Planescape Torment (sometimes deaths will literally lead you to unlocking new memories and additional experience) and weren't just a simple punishment incentivizing savescumming. Losing persuation dice rolls to Ethel or a skill check when you find that one book in a dungeon doesn't lead to anything more. The outcome is often simple "you lost, oops", yet Larian devs have repeatedly said they wanted people to accept the rolls and move on to create a unique story. Thing is the failure often means simply another loose end, so people reload instead.

  • @Faith-sl1re
    @Faith-sl1re Před rokem +32

    I found taking 1 level in fighter and the rest in Warlock to be way better for a Bladelock. Giving you access to heavy and medium armour as well second wind (which scales with characters level not fighter level) and a fighting style as well as saving throw in Con to let you keep Hex up as well as other stuff. You don't lose out on the extra slot at lvl 11 warlock. One of the lost feats that was gonna be replaced by the medium armour feat is replaced with the fighter dip. Fighting style also helps out a nice bit

    • @hamblance5938
      @hamblance5938 Před rokem +6

      1 level fighter would probably be better at lv12, but on the route levelling up 2 levels of fighter might feel better. Action surge for multiple eldritch blasts on a hexed target is huge for boss fights

    • @Faith-sl1re
      @Faith-sl1re Před rokem +3

      @@hamblance5938 It would slow down your extra attack from Pact of the Blade, making you rely more on EB which after taking 2 levels into fighter feels weird. Action Surge is nice but i don't see it as worth it. If i were to dip 2 levels in a class i would then much rather take Paladin 2 for the short rest smites if i am doing a Bladelock. Downside is no con saving throw bonus and no second wind. Probably take polearm master then for more smite chances. At that point tho i might as well take Paladin 3 Vengance for the true boss killer

      @Faith-sl1re Před rokem

      @@SG-qi5jg I would go Paladin 3 for the subclass feature but leave it there. At lvl 5 a pact of the blade warlock auto gets extra attack. Get some better scaling smites with the warlock. However i think it comes to what you want more. Leaving Warlock as is and going full Paladin will make you more tanky with overall more smites, but less powerful ones, the d10 hit dice will also make you more tanky. Warlock 9 will give you good high level spells, up to lvl 5, give you powerful smites and letting them refresh. It guess it depends if you wanna be a powerful nuker or a more general paladin that has the advantage of fully investing into CHA

    • @Faith-sl1re
      @Faith-sl1re Před rokem

      @@Skylingale At lvl 1 in character creation. Taking your first level as fighter lets you gain heavy armor as well as CON saving throws and gives you a base higher HP pool with the d10 hit dice.
      That depends if Pact of The Blade applies to the off-hand weapon. I do not believe it does, so, it's not something that would work, as the whole point of taking Warlock is to be able to attack with your CHA. It will also limit you on the weapons you can use as well as forcing you to take feats that will stagnate some stuff early on
      Just make sure to assign your ability modifiers to that of a warlock and not a fighter. This will hurt you in the tutorial but that's about it, from there you can EB your way through till you get to lvl 4 and get pact of the blade, from there, you should be good

    • @steele5823
      @steele5823 Před rokem +2

      The answer to that end goal is 1 lvl paladin, 6 lvls swords bard, add another lvl paladin, 1 lvl wizard, remaining 3 lvls bard (or sorcerer if preferred). You have way better skills with 9 lvls swords bard, you also have extra attack, dual wielding (for 3 melee attacks per turn), flourishes, heavy armor, smites, access to all bard spells up to level 9, expertise in multiple face skills, and access to all wizard spells in the game through learning scrolls (yes all, this is actually how it works in bg3 - if you have the spell slot you can learn the scroll, regardless of lvls in wiz, but wiz spells will use your int modifier so keep an eye out for int gear), and because bard is a pure caster you have the spell slots of a pure level 11 caster.

Maybe giving him more levels to get Circle of the Spores and Shapeshifting. If your spells fail, and you can't hold the line as fragile caster -> Shapeshift Bear / Raven and you are golden.

    Now that my thanks is out of the way, for how much of the game do you get to be "Max level" without beating the game? I've been hoping that I get to enjoy being Max level for a while! I'm planning on playing a gunslinger gloomstalker with Sharpshooter and dual hand crossbows so I wanna know how long I can enjoy all of that.
    Once again thanks so much! if you do have a gloomstalker build video, I'll be amongst the first viewers!

    killer's sweetheart ring you get from the Selfsame trial in the Gauntlet of Shar, the last enemy you kill drops it. Tip to make this trial easier is to unequip all your party's gear before entering as the enemies you fight will be clones of your party. then requip the gear when fighting.

    Should give you advantage on all attacks and enemies would have disadvantage against you...
    For attributes i would have taken 13 in Dex increased with moderate armor at level 4 and actor at level 8 to get 18 in CHA, then attribute improvement to get CHA to 20 at level 12... I like actor for the face as it gives you expertise in deception.

    For your level 8 feat(/ASI), you correctly mention that adding a second point to Charisma doesn't do anything, and also that adding the extra point in Strength has very minimal benefits. I'd strongly suggest instead taking the Actor feat; you still get to increase your Charisma (and its modifier) by 1, but gaining advantage on Deception and Performance checks is a huge benefit for a "face" character (especially one as liberal with the truth as a warlock).
    Essentially you have a straight choice between "+1 Strength" and "advantage on Deception and Performance checks", and I don't think there's any doubt that the latter is the better option for this character.

    This is a fun build, and very similar to how I play my warlock. One of the major differences, at least from start, is that I picked Friends and Eldritch Blast as my first two cantrips in order to get advantage on many of the various conversations. This build is cool and currently I'm trying to make a similar build on will but more focused on melee. Currently thinking about using polearms on wyll with 6 paladin and 6 warlock while using diadem of arcane synergy so whenever I use hex charisma applies twice to damage . At the very least paladin multiclass gives you smite and medium proficiency if you invest 2 levels with the added benefits of level 1 spell slots you can use for hex .

    • @Crysist100
      @Crysist100 Před rokem +1

      You shouldn't do an even split. Both paladin and warlock get feats at 4, 8, and 12. If you do a 6/6 split, then you only get 2 feats by 12th level. Doing a 4/8 split either way will get you all 3 feats.

You do have skip the medium armor at lvl 4 until later though.

    Finally, some build with the real in-game experience! Most video about builds show some theoretical build and don't take the playing experience into account. For example, many builds like to take 8 INT, although INT is very frequently used in dialogs, or it is just me liking those dialog options that roll INT...
    Anyway, I've been playing a warlock and at the beginning it's more powerful than sorcerer, but at lvl 4 it feels weaker with still one eldritch blast and the pact of chain. The familiar is helpful and feels like it helped me a lot during tougher battles, but in the end, it is the character that must be powerful, not some additional distraction on the field, that is not doing much damage and only taking some hits. That is why I'm planning to respect my character for pact of the blade. In theory, warlock should be a distance fighter, but no matter what, enemies are still finding ways to come closer, and this is not a way to play to escape all the time to get good spots, especially with a low mobility range. Melee is helpful in many situations, and it's painful to see that the strongest fighters in the party is Astarion as an assassin and La'zael as a second. Shadowheart is absolutely just a utility character and not doing much damage, which is disappointing, because clerics always were a strong choice in the previous games. Not this time. The magic system in BG3 is so broken that it nerfs all caster classes and builds focused on combat plus utility spells win. Pure casters are forced to use utility spells as well, so they don't do much damage in the end, especially when most magic not AoE spells need an attack roll anyway and miss a lot... while AoE is hard to apply with all that moving through the battlefield.

  • @purplatypus7405

    Warlock has honestly been about the most fun and powerful class so far at least in my playthrough.
    Blasting things back with eldrich blast had been insane op and funny. So far no enemy no matter the size can resist. I've knocked every enemy in the underdark off the edge to their death. Yeah I miss the loot but I get to end combat in one turn which is to fun.
    Also the great old one sounds awesome thst 100% crit combined with aoe fear sounds awesome. I went fiend even though I don't care for the flavor but dang I undervalued how good it is to get some temp HP every kill. Between the heavy armor with shield and temp HP my lock is the tankiest on the team.
    Also maybe the best face for the party if you can get a way to make sure you get proficiency in persuasion from your background.
