    Great video. I was examining "plus and minus" points to choose between TM16 and another mixer... A lot of positive points already, but this video fully completed the "pro's" for my decision. I ordered my TM16 a few minutes after looking at this. :)

      Camera Man, I'm stoked that the video was helpful in the decision making process for you. I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase. What's the primary use, and is it replacing a board, or is it part of a new system?
      Thanks for the feedback, and enjoy the board!

    • @cameraman3880
      @cameraman3880 Před 7 lety +1

      Hello, Vic. The primary use was first to replace a Soundcraft Ui16, unfortunately not reliable enough: the networking... gradually becoming unstable and not correctly working. I use this for "little" concerts in "hazardous situations", like pubs and bars where the risk of "giving a drink to the console" really exists. But the TM16 is much more than a "simple" virtual console hidden in the stagebox. My other console is a Soundcraft SI-Expression 2, which is proven satisfactory and reliable. My system is a "modular set" each time adapted to the venue or music style (from rock to classical music).
      So, I needed to find a small mixer that can be located close to the band, wireless and equipped with a "physical control surface" in case of wireless failure.
      Much more than all this, I appreciate features like multitrack recording, and the ratio "size+weight /number of in's and out's"... I long to discover this jewel.

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety +1

      Cam, thanks for taking the time to expound... I've made the ui16 a part of a house "AV/PA" system, and I couldn't agree more.
      The TM16 is a great choice and should be a good fit for your situation.

    • @cameraman3880
      @cameraman3880 Před 7 lety

      I have to recognize that the Ui16 is a very nice equipment, as equipped with fine, high quality preamp's, compressors, EQ's, effects made by renowned trade marks. The only bad point is the networking... unfortunately. It's a pity to let it aside after the bad experience I had to face this last saturday...

    One way around the glitches with the built-in wireless system, is the use a USB to Ethernet dongle, which you then connect to an external wireless router or access point, then connect your iPad (or other devices) to that router/access point.

    Hi Vic!
    Thanks for the thorough and concise presentation, it was very informative! My band is about to by this mixer, and I would like to know some things, to make sure it meets our needs. First, can you apply effects and EQ to LR? Is there a graphic EQ for the LR? And what may be the most important: is there a way to EQ monitor auxes independently from the channel outs? For example: if the bass guitar is very rumbly in my monitor, can I reduce the lows of the bass guitar in my aux without affecting the signal going to the main outs?
    Thank you for your help!
    Cheers!

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 9 lety

      As far as I can tell, you cannot have FX on the main left right out. On the other hand, you have a 28 band graphic EQ on the main left right out, and aux one through six. On aux 7-8, 9-10, you have a full parametric EQ! Keep in mind however, that this EQ will effect The whole aux send. P.S. You can also drive a set of wired in ear monitors with aux 7-8 & 9-10!

    Excellent video very helpful, thank you. My situation is that my girlfriend is in a small, local band, recently the band bought the QSC TM-16 and since I was at every gig anyway they asked me to be the sound guy. With no experience I've made several mistakes in the past few gigs since being handed the job, especially with feed back in small venues. Did you ever do a video about the Noise Generator and how to use it? I think this feature would really help me out and keep the band happy. Again thank you so much.

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety

      Hey B, honestly, I have never used the noise generator except to turn it on once, then back off. I think that the biggest thing you need to learn the basics of running sound. the good news, is that the touch mix will make it fairly easy for you. the first thing I would suggest, is to get books and/or videos about running live sound. another thing you can do, is turn on the simple option on the board and then when you have time to work with it, toggle it off and figure out how to use the more complex version of the effect, eq or whatever you were using. I hope this helps. Have fun with your new job :-)

    • @BSchlotman
      @BSchlotman Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Vic, thanks for getting back to me. The big issue was band placement in a small venue, which was in front of a wall of windows with 3 hot Phantom powered cardioid mics for the vocalist. The lead guitarist was playing through his amp and not playing through the QSC which gave me no control of his volume. He got a little loud which caused me to bump up the vocalist which bounced the sound from the monitors off the windows back to the mics causing the feedback. My plan is to link those cardioid mics into a DCA group to one of the user buttons so that next time there is feedback I'll be able to hit the button and pull down all the mics together until I correct the issue. We made a few changes with both the electric guitarist and bass player giving me more control resulting in a fantastic sounding gig last night. The band was very happy. Again, thanks for this video, I'll keep on learning.

    • @racesla
      @racesla Před 7 lety +1

      B, watch some of the videos on how to ring out your system. You really need to learn how to control feedback using the onboard 1/3-octave Graphic EQs, not by grabbing fades. Also you could pickup a feedback eliminator from dbx or behringer. Good luck.

    Great video Vic! Ok ok ok, this mixer has all the capability and functionality you desire for your gig BUT how does it really sound? ...So so, good, great or Phenomenal? Btw, I'm just an acoustic guitar vocalist playing in restaurants but I want my sound quality to be the utmost best in order to fight my rival competition!!! Also, I work with a pair of QSC k12 & a k10 for monitoring. I'm hoping the mixer will blend sweetly with my speakers. What could you tell me about the delay tap, too. I need to fiddle with my stomp pedal for many tunes in my set list. It's a real time wasting drag! Thanks so much for your tutorial. Great job!

      @vicjsch  Před 9 lety

      Edward, it is a truth that the team is only as strong as the weakest link. You are pairing a great board with a great set of speakers. The touch makes has specific settings for the K-series, so, it should do very well. As far as the tap delay, I don't have too much experience with it. Sorry about that.

    @ Gabriel, I have recorded onto a USB flash drive, and it was really easy. I did notice, however, that if you put the flash drive into another TM16, you don't have the track titles that you put in on your board. Note, that was before the 2.0 upgrade.

    GREAT video. I've been looking at a few digital boards since my Carvin analog board went belly up at last weeks rehearsal. (We got through our first gig with no problems 3 nights earlier - good timing)
    I'm pretty much sold on this board over the Presonus, Behringer, Mackie, A&H and Yamaha offerings. The 'simple' option is the clincher for me as I'm a bit of a noob.
    One question - subs? My drummer wants the kick, toms and bass going through a sub (and we run 3 subs. Yes, three. Not my idea). What's this board like for this type of setup?

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety

      Eric Nathan
      Thanks Eric. Put simply, clipping is having more signal than the device can handle. You can make a mic clip by yelling into it without having the channel clip. In that same situation, you can make the channel clip by having the gain on that channel too hot for the signal it's receiving. I hope that helps.

      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety

      Hey bc24couto1,
      Thanks for the compliment, I try to put out good stuff : -)
      As far as quality recordings go, my favorite saying is: " the chain is only as strong as the weakest link". I haven't used audix microphones much but, I know people who have, and like them a lot. And they are not a cheap microphone. the saying , "you get what you pay for is usually true. Since you're doing the recording in the digital domain, you won't get any artifacts from tape, so that won't be an issue. The bitrate is 32. The sample rate is 44.1 khz or 48 kHz. If you set your mics right, and play well :-) you should be good to go. But please, don't take my word for it, do more research and see if other people that use the board for that purpose are pleased with it, and also, please, make sure you purchase the right hard drive and follow all of the instruction that QSC gives. I hope that you are very pleasantly surprised and have a great recording and editing session. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
      Vic

    Hi Vic, very nice video! I'm debating between the TM-8 and the Behringer X Air 12. For the mic input channel on TM-8, can you use finger to drag the parametric EQ instead of using those knobs (Freq, Witdth & Gain) at the bottom? (Referring to your video @ 24'30") Thanks.

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 9 lety

      Apache Cai, Knowing NOTHING about the X Air 12, I can tell you that one reason I went with the Touch Mix was because it came with a surface. You can use it as a stage box if you want, but if you buy a surfaceless unit, you have NO choice. You can't pinch and drag on the graph per se, but, if you "grab" a virtual "knob" you can drag to positive and negative values.

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety +1

      Willy Bernardus Actually Willy, I hadn't thought about it until you asked the question, and the truth is, I really miss the faders... On the other hand, being able to mix simultaneously on 10 other surfaces, be able to use a rack full of processing gear on every channel and the mains, having a footprint the size of an iPad Pro, the 16 mic pre's, the 2 stereo in's, the ridiculous number of auxiliaries, (2 of which can power ears), the fact that you can program the board and get really close to decent eq before you leave your living room... it has an on-board manual. I haven't spilled coffee on it, lost it, or dog-eared it. And let's not forget, you get all of that for under fourteen hundred bucks! I guess I don't miss the faders that much. You'll get used to the very different tactil feel, and they are upgrading the ui and it keeps getting better. Thanks for the great question, Willy, and thanks for watching- Vic

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 7 lety +1

      Kevin Ryder Hey Kevin, thanks for the question. As far as I know, there are two ways to do this: 1) if you want to move to channels at once because it's a left right pair, don't worry, you can gang it. Meaning, you tell the channels to act as one even though the left is panned hard left in the right is panned hard right. The limitation is the channels have to be right next to each other. 2) if you can wirelessly connect another device like a phone or a tablet to the board, you can use it to control another part of the board at the same time. You can connect up to 10 different devices. This will work not only for faders but also effect's, eq's auxs, Etc. I hope this helps.

    • @kevinryder1512
      @kevinryder1512 Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for your kind and swift reply Vic! Appreciated! Just so I'm clear, if you are panning and the channels are next to each other they can be ganged and thus moved as one up and down but if for example I just want to quickly change a vocal level in channel 1 and a guitar level in channel 5 at the same time (maybe because of some feedback issues for example) this isn't possible on the main interface but possible while using a phone or tablet. Is this correct?
      Finally, regarding the trims/gain knobs - can these be adjusted independently from each other without having to select the intended channel on the screen first? What I mean by that is again for example, say I need to quickly adjust the trims levels on channel 1 and say channel 5 because of feedback or something. Can I just simply adjust the trim on channel 1 and quickly move over and adjust the trim on 5?? Or do I have to - select channel 1 on screen adjust trim knob..and then...select channel 5 on screen - adjust trim knob?
      Thanks again for your help and knowledge on this!

      Kevin Ryder you are welcome Kevin and, you did state that accurately, as long as you are using the tablets or phones in conjunction with the board, not either or. As to the gain knob question, the gains on the touchmix-16 are physical not digital. So you can adjust two or three or four or as many as you can wrap your fingers around at one time. I'm not necessarily saying that that's a good idea :-) but it is possible.

    I am having a problem with syncing up more than one Ipod to my qsc touchmix. I updated the firmware, but for some reason, one Ipod gives me full function, but the other does not. When I hit the HOME button on the Ipod that is not functioning well, the screen grey's out everything, giving me only a NETWORK SETTING option. When I click on it, there is a box that says Mixer Undefined in a pop up box. I can't navigate back to the mixer channels, use aux functions, only the nudge and U1 - 4 buttons. However on the one that does work I have full function. Any suggestions? I have updated the firmware and Ipod to the latest version for the one that does not work, even uninstalled/reinstalled the app. Help!

      I think they fixed that in 2.0 firmware upgrade. Try that and let me know. Thanks~

    Vic, are you still enjoying your QSC Touchmix and would you recommend it?

      The truth is, my life has changed drastically and I hardly use the board anymore. But I still enjoy it when I use it. It is a well made piece that I would still recommended today.

    hi , could you use the aux mix to send to a hardware compressor then back into my audio interface for mastering back into my daw , ?? if so should I copy main mix to the aux or track main mix ,, as my audio interface only has 2in -2 out

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 4 lety

      Stephen, unfortunately the truth is I have been out of the audio field for about six years now and have switched my career track to coffee. So, although I can't answer your question about the compressor, if you have any coffee questions I would be glad to tackle those 😉

      I've seen people use an aux out that has had its eq adjusted to safely and efficiently match the sub's recommended frequency specs. Should be no problem.

    Great job ! - Lots of usefull info that wasn't covered in the QSC vids / Found this in the forum regarding lost wifi connection(s)forum.qscservice.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=4325&sid=d713bbc0bed45d9f9bea4f370814d686
    If you wish not to disrupt your wifi connection to the TouchMix, make sure your iPad auto-lock is turned off. To do this, Touch your "Settings" icon, Select the "General" Tab on the left side of the screen, and select "Auto Lock" on the right side menu. Be sure that it is set to "Never" and your iPad will not go to stand-by, which in some scenarios can cause it to lose the wifi connection. "

    is this qsc good dj mixer?

    • @vicjsch
      @vicjsch  Před 8 lety

      I think it's a great board period. At the same time, it's totally overkill for a DJ mixer yet lacks some of the Necessities that the DJ needs. Bottom line is, if you were using it for a band part of the time and a DJ the rest of the time it would be fine, you could put up with what you lack for a DJ board. thanks for watching :-)

      You need to make sure that your Hard Drive is USB3, has a 7200 rpm seek time and its best that its not a Bus Powered HD too. On a Ram stick or thuimb drive, you will only be able to record the Master Outputs. You can not record all the track separately to that.
      I have been recording to a HD I have for a few months know and recording works great.

      The HD I bought is made by Buffalo, its actually Bus Powered, which they say shouldn't work, but it actually does work just fine. Here is the drive info: www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/buffalo-buffalo-ministation-external-portable-usb-3-0-hard-drive-hd-pcf1-0u3bb-hd-pcf1-0u3bb/10275071.aspx?path=62f7f2a8c350d5f6244d9b9e177703a7en02
