What Exactly is Tasawwuf?

Also known as tasawwuf, this science points out the major ills of heart & character that can land us in Hell, and guide us to those traits that earn us God's mercy.

Tassawuf is the knowledge of ihsan, like fiqh is the knowledge of Islam, tawheed is the knowledge of iman
Sufi is the one who follow the Quran and sunnah the correct way

All Ahlus-Sunnah- Sunni-Sufi too- all agree that order of reference is first, The Holy Qur'an, the Hadiths AND then "IJMAA'I". That is, what is not categorically stated in the first two sources but agreed by Group of Learned Scholars. That's how the Mazhabs came to be. Seek thorough knowledge from ALL sources before judging.
Ayat 129 of Surah 2, you quoted here is basically a quote of pray of Syedna Ibrahim PBUH that Allah mentioned in the same order as it was prayed. But Allah SWT has revealed 3 more aayats with the actual order of those 3 responsibilities of Prophet Muhammad PBUH and you should quote those 3 Aayats for this topic. Ref. 62:2, 2:161 and 3:164. Sorry to say it, but it's true, Sufism was condemned by Imam Ja'far Al Sadiq عليه الصلاة و السلام, that is it's not the teaching of Ehlul Bait عليهم الصلاة و السلام !
✍كلام الامام الصادق ع في الصوفيه
📚روي عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)حين سأله رجل عن قوم ظهروا في ذلك الزمان، يقال لهم الصوفية؟ قال: إنهم أعداؤنا، فمن مال إليهم فهو منهم ويحشر معهم، وسيكون أقوام، يدعون حبنا ويميلون إليهم ويتشبهون بهم، ويلقبون أنفسهم بلقبهم، ويقولون أقوالهم، ألا فمن مال إليهم فليس منا، وأنا منه برآء، ومن أنكرهم ورد عليهم، كان كمن جاهد الكفار بين يدي رسول الله (ص).

Narrated from Imam Ja'far Al Sadiq عليه الصلاة السلام when he was asked about a race who rose at that time calling themselves 'Sufia'? He said : THEY ARE OUR ENEMIES, HE WHOEVER INCLINE TOWARDS THEM IS ONE THEM AND WILL RISE WITH THEM. THEY WILL FORM GROUPS, THEY WOULD CLAIM OUR LOVE, INCLINE TO THEM, IMITATE THEM, CALL THEMSELVES BY THEIR TITLESAND REITERATE THEIR WORDS. INDEED, WHOEVER INCLINES TOWARDS THEMISNOT ONE OF US AND I AM DISAVOWED OF HIM AND WHOEVER DENIES THEM AND REJECTS THEM IS LIKE ONE WHO STUGGLES WITH THE INFIDELS BEFORE THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH PBUH !

All the ills of heart are described in Quran and Sunah. Follow that and every thing will be fine. There is no need for the third way.
And when you gather those verses and hadiths and categorize them for ease of studying and make a subject about it, what do you call that subject?
How to follow them without a guide? Does Allah ta'ala expect us to figure out everything by ourselves or to seek knowledge from people of understanding?
If you are from Ahl-Sunah then there four mazhab follow either one you will be fine. Each of them has enough and knowledgeable Imams. Each of them has books and read them if you have question go to Imam and ask them. Follow the five piller of Islam and do what ever is Halal and avoid whatever is Harm. Remember Allah as mush as you can
. Your will be safe inshallah.
This is called Mazhab which made the Deen easy for your. If you are from Ahl-Sunnah then there are four. Follow any of they you will be safe inshallah.
Bashir Ahmad you said there's no need for third way. Madhab is a third way too in that sense
