The way he lays in to the bass drum (feel wise, not volume wise) and still has a relaxed left hand to make the backbeat come to life is phenomenal, and (mind you) on top of the forementioned wizardry, keeping a lovely flow going at the hats. Beautiful stuff
As soon as James starts the Express Yourself groove he gets that trademark grin 😂 Express Yourself, Use Me, Kissing My Love and Ain’t No Sunshine are 3 grooves every self respecting drummer should have in their toolbox. No one does the 16th note groove better.
No shit! Well, you know that's one of Jeff Porcaro's drumming idol right there. Nate Smith is just somebody who's passing the torch of tradition and keep it fresh and relevant in today's music, and even so he's still goddamn good at it.
