John (in this ending) has to be one of the most tragic characters in fiction. He attempted to be a servant of the Lord, but his faith shook, and he yielded. Witnessing the downfall of humanity at the hand of the Profane Sabbath due to his actions, all John can do is plead for forgiveness. He is deemed, by God and by the Devil, to be _UNFORGIVABLE_ and is completely wiped from reality.
Ain't the bad ending like, meaning that John was trying to run away from these problems? Meaning that he deserved that kind of punishment as Gary's plan was completed and John didn't do a thing to stop him in this ending.
I am glad the Faith Trilogy exists; it is not a perfect depiction of how exorcisms most of the times work, but the character of John is indeed a beautiful representation of the struggle of faith within oneself, and without and outside oneself, in all the senses of these terms: he was a necessary instrument of the Lord, but in this ending he gave up, and, to quote the Bible, the lukewarm ones are the ones who God will vomit. His sin is the unforgivable sin of despair, of not accounting for what the Lord has in plan for each person, and it is even worse then betraying Him. Thus he's damned to be forever forgotten, even by God in a sense.

You said it buddy... The Damnatio Memoriae was an old roman punishment and one of the cruelest, like you said; the person has it's whole vestige, records and patrimony removed, finally it's life taken as well...
And it's not just that. It's very possible that God himself proclaimed this. I mean John broke his promise he gave to Him. To finish what he had started. It's very possible he did it as punishment for failing not just Him but the rest of humanity as well. Hell, the Unspeakable even goes as far to proclaim John as "Unforgivable". Brrrr...
For some of us the end of the world might not come in tidal waves and fire, or bombs dropping from the sky, but simply losing faith and certainty in what we believed in. Losing hope. The ending shows this quite poignantly.
My philosophy teacher once said that sadness and anxiety are a by product of fear, and that if something horrifies you it will most likely also make you feel depressed. The fear of losing a family member for example carries a lot of depressive baggage. He liked to say that effective horror will always, always make you feel melancholic because of this relation. I think this ending is a perfect example of that, it's John having lost a battle against himself and his own struggling faith, dooming all of humanity to an overwhelming power beyond anyone, even beyond God. The chaos brought to earth is just consequence to his own cowardice, a result to his failures. It's terrifying, but also incredibly sad, and this song just reinforces how tragic John's fate really is.
Indeed; such a great exploration of so many themes in just one scene of a small videogame. I am starting to see why many videogames can claim to be art more and more: it's not the graphics, but the messages, the exploration of these human themes and fears which make them worthy of such title.
This is my favorite ending in any game. The story is clearly guiding John and the player to save the world from demons, almost as if God were guiding him. But the worst ending in the game is achieved by leaving everything in God’s hands, and refusing his calling. For his crime of feeling fear and guilt due to his lack of faith, he received the just punishment of being erased from existence.
There's a lot of great good endings in video games. and only few rare actual well made BAD endings in video games. This is one of them.It's one of my favorites now.
God I love how harrowing and just utterly broken this OST sounds. Short term, it's saying "Your faith broke as soon as you saw what happened at the Martin household". Long term, it's saying so much more. John had so many chances given to him to make things right and stop the Profaned Sabbath from happening, face the ugly truth and wrestle with his own shattered faith and still do the right thing. Instead he just shrivels up and doesn't bother anymore. His faith is utterly broken and has no reason or desire to pursue any closure - because all that guilt and despair tells him otherwise. There's nothing more he could do. There's nothing more that he CAN do. He couldn't save Amy or the Martin brothers (even though it's HIGHLY speculated they didn't even exist in the first place, a delusion from the Cult of the Second Death) and he can't save himself. He goes down into the basement, grabs the key, goes into the room, finds the psych ward paperwork and sits before a Possessed Amy. And then, he's taken to Hell. He languishes in the construction of the Martin house as Michael scurries into it's depths. John reminisces of all the hurt and pain he was subject to during that failed exorcism and it all comes back in force, flooding him with even more pain, guilt and unbridled mental agony. He doesn't want to continue - and submits. He kneels and holds his hands up; assisted by Amy and Michael. Two mannequins resembling the Martin brothers stands before him - a monument to his failure. God I FUCKING LOVE this game's lore. All the small details. Soundtrack helps too.
The story was probably not penned by a Catholic, but: it perfectly fits the one sin that cannot be forgiven, the sin against the Holy Spirit, the sin of final unrepentance. In a sense, John gave up on hope by stopping to fight, and he's not only damned, he has to be completely erased and sent to Hell whole: he is neither hot nor cold, for he refused to fight or partake in the evil, and thus he has been vomited by God. This is beyond harrowing, this is peak damnation.
This music always gives me chills, especially with the cut to silence before the harrowing music blasts full force as the words "Damnatio Memoriae" flashes on screen. John had so many chances to finally give Amy peace and to right his wrong from a year ago, but his guilt and cowardliness got the best of him. He didn't go to the hospital, he let Lisa get possessed by Alu and she became another cog in Gary's plan, and he didn't go to the school to stop Gary's cult once and for all. So The Profane Sabbath goes off without a hitch, it's to be assumed that Father Garcia tried to stop it, but couldn't handle it alone, so he most likely perished at the hands of Gary and his cult. The end of the world is at hand, and there are cult members trying to break in and kill John. With nowhere left to go, John unlocks the room he refused to enter throughout the game and kneels before Amy, begging for forgiveness. But it's too late, Amy attacks him, calling him *_UNFORGIVABLE._* John ends up back where it all started, the Miller House, reminiscing on the trauma he endured in that house only a year ago. With nothing else to live for, he surrenders to The Unspeakable, his arms held up by Amy and Micheal, before the Unspeakable consumes him, and the rest of the world. He is completely wiped from existence, and those that somehow still remain on Earth will never remember John Ward. For who would want to remember a man who couldn't even save a single child?
This track doesn’t just give “you got the bad ending” vibes, this gives “You will be erased from reality and the world will die as a consequence of your failure” vibes
I find it interesting how this track was just a fan track inspired by Faith Ch 1 & 2, but Airdorf liked it so much that he incorporated it into Chapter 3.

Most bad endings I’ve seen are usually a very basic “you lose, f*** you” and proceed to be over, with the game itself knowing it’s not canon (and arguably more of a gag/gimmick for the player). This, however, hits different. It feels real, giving a sense of inadequacy, cowardice, and failure (as many already noted) that seems like a realistic outcome for a person under such a heavy and traumatic burden.

This is like studying 90 hours a week for an upcoming test, and failing it due to lack of sleep, and your dad/mom (God) gives you that look of extreme disappointment.
I'm not sure, because in this instance, you at least tried in the form of studying. In this ending, John didn't even try at all, succumbing to his own fear and lack of faith. I think it's more like, you didn't study at all because your mind is too busy stressing about the test itself, and end up failing. The disappointment from dad/mom (God) would be greater, because what they see is that you didn't even TRY to be better.

My god this song is so fucking good. One of the most hard-hitting osts I've ever heard. It's so powerful I get this like physical reaction, it makes me feel almost queasy, and when that 2:03 hits I get wracked with chills all over my body.
This song, although it is not filled with a lot of details, with which almost all songs are now filled, sounds very scary and sad, but at the same time, it touches some strings of the soul that make you want to move on and not be afraid of trials. John got a difficult fate, which he tried to avoid, for which he was wiped off the face of the Earth with all the things and people that could remind him of him. I'm sorry for John, but his example is indicative that you need to take all the blows of fate like a wall. And remember that avoiding fate is UNFORGIVABLE.

We all have those times. Crying yourself to sleep at nights wondering if you'll make the bills on time, a job that's unfulfilling or just the prospects of having a job, a relationship with a married one that's gone of any love or that of family. A mind and body that's not busy will make these terrible terrible things go to your head. Talk to your family there's no shame in it. Keep yourself busy a hobby or some volunteer work will do wonders. Best of all but hardest of all THE PAST IS PAST it cannot be undone let it go. Hopelessness can only get hold of you if you let it!

The ending reminds me a lot of the bad ending in Cave Story; the idea is similar, your own cowardice has led to the destruction of an entire world, and the presentation is quite similar. How? Notice how in the end, the words "Damnatio memoriae" are written in the same typeface as the game over "Mortis". Similarly, that particular ending is simply portrayed as a game over screen with its own special music.

He pleaded for the nightmare to end. It only ended for him. It only ends after being labeled unforgivable and then being forgotten. What a horrifying way to go
If you ask me, the almost requiem like vibe fits the sequence in the ruined Martin house perfectly. What makes this ending so well done in my opinion is that... It doesn't highlight the death of the world and the success of the cult like many other games would. Instead it's showing the the final collapse of John as not only a person, but as a man of god. This ending reminds me of an old saying from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once."
Out of context, the theme sounds like a hero’s journey brought down to its lowest point. The hero has lost so many people, friends, family, civilians, leaders, lovers. All in the pursuit of his mission. His path paved in the blood of the lives he had to take and of those he didn’t. Brought to his lowest he must continue with his mission, for he is the only one able to. And before him stands the final bastion of evil before the end of his mission, his last push through hell. He must complete the mission, or all the pain, the bloodshed, the suffering he caused… would be for nothing.
This song is genuinely so powerful, it makes my heart hurt so much. This ending is probably my favorite, it really shows how hopeless John is at this point. And… can you really blame him? He failed. The Profane Sabbath is inevitable. He’s surrounded by cultists. All he can do is hide. And Amy is there. Waiting for him. He’s forced to go to the house that started everything, one last time. Before being completely wiped from existence, forever. What a great, powerful ending.
It’s strange. These days, I’ve sometimes came back to this just to hear this and I’d even attempt to sing Abide With Me to it. Can’t seem to figure it out so far, though. Rather somber tune, especially regarding John’s fate in the bad ending, but I find this beautiful.

Imagine god throwing you into a life of tragedy, horror and despair, with you having no way of saving yourself except the FAITH that this god supposedly cares about you and protects you in this battle against unworldly horrors. Time and time again, you do your best and succeed, but it never seems to be enough. The battles never end, the nightmares never cease. Is it seriously too much to ask, for these fights to come to an end? When you finally break down and decide that you don't want to fight anymore, the best this LOVING god has to say is... DAMNATIO MEMORIAE Despite how cruel and unforgiving this situation sounds, I'd never give up fighting, and I never will, whether or not god gives a shit; but I'll be damned if it isn't a fucked up way to be.
The first time I heard this melody, it was winter, there were 3-5 days left before the new year. I stood on the balcony looking out the window and listened to this melody. At the same time, I was filled with many incomprehensible thoughts and feelings. At the same time, anxiety that I missed something, that I can’t cope with something, and at the same time devastation, as if there was nothing inside me. This is an amazing composition that gives very strong emotions. Thanks to playing, the melody now reminds me of church. If I remember church, I remember both the game and the melody. Probably because it's almost a tacit rejection of FAITH-that everything you do and decide matters, you're put on Earth with a purpose to find and fulfil or deny, that there is unknowable powers and reason beyond the workings of reality. And replaces it with, well...a tragedy that happened without purpose. Bad things happen to good people. There's no higher reason to any of it. John chose to walk into a house, and he got lost in the woods. That can happen to anyone. The latter is a cold concept to think upon.

In Rome its a thing when EVERY information of person who did smth unforgivable just erase, a statue, every mention of that person existed even the members of family, people who knew him just destroys. the bad end ost for chap3 is called “damnatio memoriae” and when translated it means “condemnation of memory.” Condemnation is basically another word for sentencing, so in a way the title is implying that John was sentenced to punishment and that punishment being having to re-live some of the memories of the exorcism (im sorry if people already knew this just wanted to point it out)
Apparently another interpretation of Damnatio Memoriae was one that the ancient Romans used, where the government “Condemned the memories” of a person by executing them and then destroying all physical records of their existence. It’d only be done to someone who had committed a crime so heinous that the leaders thought they could never be saved, nor should ever be remembered. In other words, they’d done something... U N F O R G I V A B L E
That is false, condemnation of memory was a punishment in the old Rome government, where you wouldn't only be killed but every proof of your existance would have been gone

CW: Death, suicide I’ll start by saying I love this game and I love this trilogy. Undoubtedly one of the coolest experiences I’ve had to both watch and play. It really leaves a lot to the imagination while also providing some stunning visuals in a game that is, by and large, heavily inspired by 80’s graphics and home console games. With that said, here’s the heavy stuff. This track hit me the hardest at a very, very low point in my life, I almost took my life one morning after not showing up for work and overdosing on my meds. Not to say this tune aided in my attempt, but it oddly gave me comfort when I felt so alone and in the dark the night before and the morning of I guess. Idk… thankfully I got the help that I needed, but I’m reminded of that day through this tune. It was the one thing I could listen to to ease the pain and noise from that day 💜
I'll be honest, going through my own shit and when some moments hit harder than most, this pops into my head a lot. Dealing with similar feelings myself so, glad you're still around and kicking, mate
I think this ending makes one experience what it is to lose faith in religion even a to a non believer, what it is to lose hope and how death becomes neither the glory of heaven or a punishment in hell but simply being forgotten and erased
reminder that in this ending John just didn't fail Amy and the other victims of the cult. He also failed to save Lisa and Garcia, as Lisa was in the area when the cult attacked the police, and Garcia would of tried to storm Garyland by himself, which would ceratinly resulted in his death.
This shit feels like you just got unexisted not because you did the bad ending, but because your entire life lead up to this moment, everything you did made this happen, and how MAD you must be feeling, to unexist the very person you are mad about, with yourself and EVERYTHING that ever happened because of him
I love the parallel of John kneeling before Amy the way Gary does in the good ending. Although whereas Gary is arrogant believing he can still bring about the profane sabbath, John is utterly crushed.

In this ending, in order to pray for forgiveness, John commited wicked acts that doomed him to be the chosen by Gary's cult and the Unspeakable vessel. The world ends abruptably and all he can do is witness how humanity goes downfall and the Evil rises on the Profane Sabbat.
Just lined up the new year at the 2 minute mark. I fear this will be one of our last years. If there is still an earth left by the time I die, I want this to be played at my funeral.

For some of us the end of the world might not come in tidal waves and fire, or bombs dropping from the sky, but simply losing faith and certainty in what we believed in. Losing hope. The ending shows this quite poignantly.

My philosophy teacher once said that sadness and anxiety are a by product of fear, and that if something horrifies you it will most likely also make you feel depressed. The fear of losing a family member for example carries a lot of depressive baggage. He liked to say that effective horror will always, always make you feel melancholic because of this relation.
I think this ending is a perfect example of that, it's John having lost a battle against himself and his own struggling faith, dooming all of humanity to an overwhelming power beyond anyone, even beyond God. The chaos brought to earth is just consequence to his own cowardice, a result to his failures. It's terrifying, but also incredibly sad, and this song just reinforces how tragic John's fate really is.
Indeed; such a great exploration of so many themes in just one scene of a small videogame. I am starting to see why many videogames can claim to be art more and more: it's not the graphics, but the messages, the exploration of these human themes and fears which make them worthy of such title.
Not beyond God actually, he will end the Profane Sabbath one way or another, not through John now.

This is my favorite ending in any game. The story is clearly guiding John and the player to save the world from demons, almost as if God were guiding him. But the worst ending in the game is achieved by leaving everything in God’s hands, and refusing his calling. For his crime of feeling fear and guilt due to his lack of faith, he received the just punishment of being erased from existence.
There's a lot of great good endings in video games.
and only few rare actual well made BAD endings in video games.

God I love how harrowing and just utterly broken this OST sounds.
Short term, it's saying "Your faith broke as soon as you saw what happened at the Martin household". Long term, it's saying so much more. John had so many chances given to him to make things right and stop the Profaned Sabbath from happening, face the ugly truth and wrestle with his own shattered faith and still do the right thing.
Instead he just shrivels up and doesn't bother anymore. His faith is utterly broken and has no reason or desire to pursue any closure - because all that guilt and despair tells him otherwise. There's nothing more he could do. There's nothing more that he CAN do. He couldn't save Amy or the Martin brothers (even though it's HIGHLY speculated they didn't even exist in the first place, a delusion from the Cult of the Second Death) and he can't save himself. He goes down into the basement, grabs the key, goes into the room, finds the psych ward paperwork and sits before a Possessed Amy.
And then, he's taken to Hell. He languishes in the construction of the Martin house as Michael scurries into it's depths. John reminisces of all the hurt and pain he was subject to during that failed exorcism and it all comes back in force, flooding him with even more pain, guilt and unbridled mental agony. He doesn't want to continue - and submits. He kneels and holds his hands up; assisted by Amy and Michael. Two mannequins resembling the Martin brothers stands before him - a monument to his failure.
God I FUCKING LOVE this game's lore. All the small details. Soundtrack helps too.
The story was probably not penned by a Catholic, but: it perfectly fits the one sin that cannot be forgiven, the sin against the Holy Spirit, the sin of final unrepentance. In a sense, John gave up on hope by stopping to fight, and he's not only damned, he has to be completely erased and sent to Hell whole: he is neither hot nor cold, for he refused to fight or partake in the evil, and thus he has been vomited by God. This is beyond harrowing, this is peak damnation.
About Martin brothers, yes, they were a ruse. If you ask Gary he even taunts you as he reveals it.

This music always gives me chills, especially with the cut to silence before the harrowing music blasts full force as the words "Damnatio Memoriae" flashes on screen. John had so many chances to finally give Amy peace and to right his wrong from a year ago, but his guilt and cowardliness got the best of him. He didn't go to the hospital, he let Lisa get possessed by Alu and she became another cog in Gary's plan, and he didn't go to the school to stop Gary's cult once and for all. So The Profane Sabbath goes off without a hitch, it's to be assumed that Father Garcia tried to stop it, but couldn't handle it alone, so he most likely perished at the hands of Gary and his cult. The end of the world is at hand, and there are cult members trying to break in and kill John. With nowhere left to go, John unlocks the room he refused to enter throughout the game and kneels before Amy, begging for forgiveness. But it's too late, Amy attacks him, calling him *_UNFORGIVABLE._*
John ends up back where it all started, the Miller House, reminiscing on the trauma he endured in that house only a year ago. With nothing else to live for, he surrenders to The Unspeakable, his arms held up by Amy and Micheal, before the Unspeakable consumes him, and the rest of the world. He is completely wiped from existence, and those that somehow still remain on Earth will never remember John Ward.
For who would want to remember a man who couldn't even save a single child?

Most bad endings I’ve seen are usually a very basic “you lose, f*** you” and proceed to be over, with the game itself knowing it’s not canon (and arguably more of a gag/gimmick for the player). This, however, hits different. It feels real, giving a sense of inadequacy, cowardice, and failure (as many already noted) that seems like a realistic outcome for a person under such a heavy and traumatic burden.

I'm not sure, because in this instance, you at least tried in the form of studying. In this ending, John didn't even try at all, succumbing to his own fear and lack of faith. I think it's more like, you didn't study at all because your mind is too busy stressing about the test itself, and end up failing. The disappointment from dad/mom (God) would be greater, because what they see is that you didn't even TRY to be better.

My god this song is so fucking good. One of the most hard-hitting osts I've ever heard. It's so powerful I get this like physical reaction, it makes me feel almost queasy, and when that 2:03 hits I get wracked with chills all over my body.
This song, although it is not filled with a lot of details, with which almost all songs are now filled, sounds very scary and sad, but at the same time, it touches some strings of the soul that make you want to move on and not be afraid of trials. John got a difficult fate, which he tried to avoid, for which he was wiped off the face of the Earth with all the things and people that could remind him of him. I'm sorry for John, but his example is indicative that you need to take all the blows of fate like a wall. And remember that avoiding fate is UNFORGIVABLE.

We all have those times. Crying yourself to sleep at nights wondering if you'll make the bills on time, a job that's unfulfilling or just the prospects of having a job, a relationship with a married one that's gone of any love or that of family. A mind and body that's not busy will make these terrible terrible things go to your head.
Talk to your family there's no shame in it. Keep yourself busy a hobby or some volunteer work will do wonders. Best of all but hardest of all THE PAST IS PAST it cannot be undone let it go. Hopelessness can only get hold of you if you let it!

The ending reminds me a lot of the bad ending in Cave Story; the idea is similar, your own cowardice has led to the destruction of an entire world, and the presentation is quite similar. How? Notice how in the end, the words "Damnatio memoriae" are written in the same typeface as the game over "Mortis". Similarly, that particular ending is simply portrayed as a game over screen with its own special music.

If you ask me, the almost requiem like vibe fits the sequence in the ruined Martin house perfectly.
What makes this ending so well done in my opinion is that... It doesn't highlight the death of the world and the success of the cult like many other games would. Instead it's showing the the final collapse of John as not only a person, but as a man of god.
This ending reminds me of an old saying from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:
"A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once."

Out of context, the theme sounds like a hero’s journey brought down to its lowest point. The hero has lost so many people, friends, family, civilians, leaders, lovers. All in the pursuit of his mission. His path paved in the blood of the lives he had to take and of those he didn’t. Brought to his lowest he must continue with his mission, for he is the only one able to. And before him stands the final bastion of evil before the end of his mission, his last push through hell. He must complete the mission, or all the pain, the bloodshed, the suffering he caused… would be for nothing.
I can't believe I listened to the best song in the game after sleeping in bed for three days straight.
Before John gets erased, we see him kneeling with his hands up, which is a common pose associated with surrendering
This song is genuinely so powerful, it makes my heart hurt so much. This ending is probably my favorite, it really shows how hopeless John is at this point. And… can you really blame him? He failed. The Profane Sabbath is inevitable. He’s surrounded by cultists. All he can do is hide. And Amy is there. Waiting for him. He’s forced to go to the house that started everything, one last time. Before being completely wiped from existence, forever. What a great, powerful ending.
It’s strange. These days, I’ve sometimes came back to this just to hear this and I’d even attempt to sing Abide With Me to it. Can’t seem to figure it out so far, though.
Rather somber tune, especially regarding John’s fate in the bad ending, but I find this beautiful.

also i assume that the reason how john can end up in martins family house is becuse right after amy demon grabbing john and called him "UNFORGIVEBLE" it take john teleported in the martins family house and then he knelled and fall in the hand of the devil, bring john gone from the world existence along with martins family house like how the devil did to gary in the good ending cause him died by Damnatio memoriae, means "condemnation of memory", indicating that a person life track is gone from memories which aka not known their existence (and i think that brins him to hell,god have mercy on his soul T~T )

Imagine god throwing you into a life of tragedy, horror and despair, with you having no way of saving yourself except the FAITH that this god supposedly cares about you and protects you in this battle against unworldly horrors. Time and time again, you do your best and succeed, but it never seems to be enough. The battles never end, the nightmares never cease. Is it seriously too much to ask, for these fights to come to an end?

The first time I heard this melody, it was winter, there were 3-5 days left before the new year. I stood on the balcony looking out the window and listened to this melody. At the same time, I was filled with many incomprehensible thoughts and feelings. At the same time, anxiety that I missed something, that I can’t cope with something, and at the same time devastation, as if there was nothing inside me. This is an amazing composition that gives very strong emotions. Thanks to playing, the melody now reminds me of church. If I remember church, I remember both the game and the melody. Probably because it's almost a tacit rejection of FAITH-that everything you do and decide matters, you're put on Earth with a purpose to find and fulfil or deny, that there is unknowable powers and reason beyond the workings of reality. And replaces it with, well...a tragedy that happened without purpose. Bad things happen to good people. There's no higher reason to any of it. John chose to walk into a house, and he got lost in the woods. That can happen to anyone. The latter is a cold concept to think upon.

the bad end ost for chap3 is called “damnatio memoriae” and when translated it means “condemnation of memory.” Condemnation is basically another word for sentencing, so in a way the title is implying that John was sentenced to punishment and that punishment being having to re-live some of the memories of the exorcism

Apparently another interpretation of Damnatio Memoriae was one that the ancient Romans used, where the government “Condemned the memories” of a person by executing them and then destroying all physical records of their existence.

I’ll start by saying I love this game and I love this trilogy. Undoubtedly one of the coolest experiences I’ve had to both watch and play. It really leaves a lot to the imagination while also providing some stunning visuals in a game that is, by and large, heavily inspired by 80’s graphics and home console games.
With that said, here’s the heavy stuff. This track hit me the hardest at a very, very low point in my life, I almost took my life one morning after not showing up for work and overdosing on my meds. Not to say this tune aided in my attempt, but it oddly gave me comfort when I felt so alone and in the dark the night before and the morning of I guess. Idk… thankfully I got the help that I needed, but I’m reminded of that day through this tune. It was the one thing I could listen to to ease the pain and noise from that day 💜

to a non believer, what it is to lose hope and how death becomes neither the glory of heaven or a punishment in hell but simply being forgotten and erased
reminder that in this ending John just didn't fail Amy and the other victims of the cult. He also failed to save Lisa and Garcia, as Lisa was in the area when the cult attacked the police, and Garcia would of tried to storm Garyland by himself, which would ceratinly resulted in his death.

I love the parallel of John kneeling before Amy the way Gary does in the good ending. Although whereas Gary is arrogant believing he can still bring about the profane sabbath, John is utterly crushed.
